Can someone please explain the difference between Channel 4 and E4 to me? Is it like the difference between NBC and it's sister stations USA, MSNBC and CNBC here in the states?
In the UK you need to buy a TV license in order to have a TV and this allows you to receive 5 stations including Channel 4. E4 is a digital television that was launched as a pay-TV companion to Channel 4. While Channel 4 has a pubic service mandate (like PBS in the States, but with edgier programming), E4 is entirely about making money and they target the 16-35 age bracket.
uh actually TV license is only needed for BBC1 + 2 which the public pays for. Channel 4 is a commercial terrestrial (national) channel and E4 is only available for satellite, cable and freeview (digital) watchers - and they're all about making money ;)
