You've probably gotten this question asked a million times, but could you do a video of you playing the intro bass line to the stump song 'buffalo'? I really want to learn it, but can't seem to figure it out...
Haha, love that it's a 'mix' of Kev Hopper. Who's that guy? I've been a fan of yours for over 20 years now, it would be hard to overestimate the impact your playing had on mine, it's an absolute treat to see you play.
Kev - hopefully you dont remember when in a drunken haze, myself and Bob Barrs carried you offstage at the Hand & Heart on Far Gosford St at one of the Art Fac do's (1980/81 ?)... to atone for this sin I did go buy yr Stolen Jewels album on vinyl when it came out... check my link and you'll see my old Lanch films.
PS - good to see you have some Back Door favourited... still my favourite band - my dad played sax with Ron Asprey in the Cleveland Big Band!!
Very nice !. The Percy influence is there certainly. I've had 6 Wals, but I'm down to just one now (5 string fretless). One of these days I'll have some free time to take it out of the case again !. Hearing you certainly got me all enthusiastic anyway. Thank you.
@JustusFriedolin No, it can be done on a fretted as well, it's just harder. You have to press down literally on the fret and then slide. It's a bit tricky, I can't do it well but you may have seen Victor Wooten doing it in that famous Amazing Grace video.
Picasso! Very interesting.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to evoke with this piece...

Just got to love that Wal tone!
alembicbassguy 1 year ago
Yes, Wal did have a Fender body option all those years ago and as far as I know I'm the only person who took it up.
spoombung 1 year ago
That looks like a Precision body...was that custom option, or did you need to replace the original? Great playing btw...

Er, no, thankfully I don't remember that, Greg, although I do remember the venue!
Colin Hodgkinson was a big influence for me and lots of other bassists at the time.

Sorry This is kind of a stupid question but how do you bend the harmonics?
Radia75 2 years ago
Play the harmonic then press down on the (fretless) fingerboard. Slide up/down.
spoombung 2 years ago
Thanks so much, this is such an interesting technique, one can really have a colorful style utilizing it. Its much like a voice. Thank you.
Radia75 2 years ago
does that only work with a fretless?

Hello Kev
Graeme Martin here.
Still working in Deptford, hope to see you around some time.
Let that Les Dawson ring out. Lovely stuff!
windandrainsiscold 2 years ago
YES!
The mighty Hopper is back on the bass - some of us were worried you'd chucked music altogether.
All the best Kev, Moon Hare and the entire of Stolen Jewels are still the soundtrack that hot summer evenings are made of!

BMS -Of course I don't mind - many thanks!

Hi SB,
please forgive the intrusion, saw what I thought was another Wal man from oldsynth's post ( correct).
Excellent playing on your channel header, I definitely hear the PJ influence there (DMZ does it for me) :)
Hope you don't mind, just saying hello to another bass enthusiast.
All the best, BMS
