civil rights, amendments...please. The officer gave the camera-bearing knuckle head the option of standing elsewhere other than where he wasstanding, and he had to question, which resulted in cuffs slapped on his wrists. Well, in most states its said that its not illegal to film police as long as you arn't obstructing them. In this case, this is what they went with. They said you can film from somewhere else (so they are now saying you can still film) and if you didn't you could be arrested. Then when you fail to listen they arrest you and most of the time just release you because its just stupid to charge you. They got you out of the way and your camera off. believe it or not there are some things you can't film or take a picture because it truely is illegal mainly for the safety of the officer or something like that it goes both ways
i agree these cops were being assholes but not all cops are like this some actually take the time and listen and resolve issues peacefully. can u guys just aprriciate some cops for what they do is protect and serve?
@jointheforce101 You don't even live on your won. You have no life experience relying on yourself what so ever, kid. You're only 13. I promise you, when you are older, you will understand why even people who have never done anything illegal and are productive members of society despise cops and view them as overbearing bullies with lust for power and had no control in their life when they were kids. I was just like you, long ago. I knew only bad people who broke the law hated cops. I was wrong.
there are several laws being challenged by the aclu prohibiting the filming of police. police claim it's like an illegal wire tap, and that the cop must consent to being filmed, which they never do.
of course the real reason is they don't want to be held accountable for all the crimes they commit. filming of cops has led to an explosion of evidence for the people they harass, beat, and kill. the question is, why would police departments want to cover up this transparency?
@tomitstube so all cops are like that? and if all cops should be filmed then shouldnt all doctors nurses paramedics firefighters child care workers aged care workers all be filmed?they kill heaps of people and abuse people yet there is nothing nearly this big about them being filmed they also dont want to be filmed so why is everyone always bashing on the cops?
@nicamy8988 ~ cops are public employees dealing with their constituents, it isn't the same as a doctor, you can choose a different doctor if they don't want to be taped doing your surgery. people film fire fighters in action all the time.
"why is everyone always bashing on the cops?" because they abuse their power all the time.
if cops don't have anything to hide why should they care?
if they don't they like it, they can get two jobs at wal-mart.
@tomitstube really you know for a fact they abuse it all the time and all cops or even most cps you know this for a fact? i dont have anything to hide doesnt mean i want to be filmed at work most people dont have anything to hide but that doesnt mean they want to be filmed believe it or not but them not wanting to be filmed isnt so they can turn the country into a police state so they can do whatever they want it wont happen. there are heaps of good cops but why arent they filmed?
@nicamy8988 ~ you mostly answer your own questions. so why do good cops care if the bad ones are busted for bad behavior? seems to me, if they are the professionals you say they are, then they would be glad to be taped.
but you know as well as i do, there are too many cases of cops being caught doing illegal things. they won't police themselves, so it's up to the citizenry to do it. any attempt to outlaw a civil servant being filmed is tantamount to a police state with no accountability.
@tomitstube because who says what is bad behaviour? a religious person might say one thing and a gun enthusiast might say another so who is right? the problem is the film that is analyzed is almost never complete ie no sound not enough sound couldnt hear a part of it shaky camera poor quality that all gets put on the cop negatively instantly and the whole premise is to prove he did wrong so automatically they are thinking he has done something wrong its in their heads. its not fair from the...
@tomitstube .. start. point being we are overly scrutinizing police for doing wrong when we should be blaming the criminals for doing wrong i mean who the hell thought of good behaviour in jail? they committed a crime just because they were good boys in jail doesnt mean they should be let out early. police have too much to do and are too restricted in how they do it they are also overly scrutinized all the time even off duty so their stress is unbelievable its not fair from the start for them
@nicamy8988 ~ i don't believe it's "over scrutiny". when a white cop is caught on tape shooting an unarmed black man laying face down on the ground and not moving, (oakland) then that cop didn't get away with a racist murder. i know lots of cops, some in the family, i'm not saying they are all bad, but i know some are real pieces of shit. racist pricks who can't wait to shoot some one. that's just my take.
besides, a lot of the time the tape vindicates the cop. it shouldn't be illegal.
@tomitstube true there are some but thats in everything even the military and ambos its the opposite in gov most poli's are dicks and some are good haha im not saying it should be illegal im saying it shouldnt be so overly used & if they are going to do it the quality should be better the shakiness would be fixed the sound and they should tape before it happens i know thats hard but its not fair on the cop if the dead guy tried to pull an AK out & all you see is the cop shooting 50 rounds
@nicamy8988 ~ after rereading my comment it reminded me that cops have cameras in their cars now, there are cameras everywhere, car washes, intersections, businesses. if a cop can record an interaction why can't the public? unless the cops want to manipulate the information. suppress something that looks bad, over play something edited to look good. you said so your self, the tape doesn't tell the whole story.
@tomitstube You have a very strong point and I suspect the answer is as simple as it is regrettable: The police departments around the US codify and produce this sort of behavior with the larger agenda of producing fear and passivity/complicity for us. We tend to think of these issues on an individual basis, but the system is rigged and they recognize the populous are diametrically opposed to their interests. Theirs is one of domination, ours is one of governance and expression of opinion.
@JFarisA ~ very true, and well said. it's a show of "force" anymore. unfortunately police departments are becoming more and more like military commando units instead of the guy on the neighborhood beat.
they seem more concerned about protecting the bad apples than weeding them out.
@tomitstube I am going through BLET now, and this is actually one of the things my instructors are trying to weed out, at least in my NC course. We are being told over and over that we need to have a positive presence, and actually be helpful. It's too bad that all these "bad-asses" think that since they were able to get a badge that they have to act like they are better than everyone. I actually want to help improve my community, not mistreat the people who live in it.

@cquackaz there are places that it is illegal to not film without consent... and to a point anywhere... because it can be featured around the entire world... (youtube) ... would you want your face across the world?
@Tj1056 and those places are not in public areas...if someone wanted to they could follow you around with a video camera everytime you left your house...if what your saying is true then why do celebrities not sue the paperazzi everytime they take a picture?
This is why i hate the fucking cops they think they rule the fucking world and they are allowed to break laws that normal citizens are not allowed to.
Cops always say "if you have nothing to hide than you shouldn't object to (enter your property, search your car, purse, knap sack, pockets, etc) Cops audio/video from dash board cameras and public security cameras everywhere. Do citizens have the option to say no?? If cops have nothing to hide then they shouldn't object to being audio/video taped. If they refuse, they must be planning on hiding something. Guilt by association! (by the way cops say that too)
This is misinformation. In Illinois it is against the law to record (audio or video) of a government official without their consent (and their consent has to be recorded). Amazingly, the sentence for violating this state law is more severe than agravated assault.
@MustyGashPlug And you wonder why Illinois is so corrupt? Because the corrupters make the laws that prevent the corruptions from being known by the corruptees (citizens of Illinois). Merry Land is the same way. You may not film zee gestapo doing zer duteez
Lol stupid cop doesn't know how to turnoff the video camera lol something like this happened to me lol a cop trying to take the battery out from my iPhone lol
"...before it gets broken" How? if he's the one trying to figure it out?? That's a threat to cause criminal damage. You people attacking the film maker for his actions need to wake up. It's not illegal to film cops.
In this day and age if you don't understand why law enforcement are alittle up tight about filming, then I must request that you move from under the rock you have been living under, you mention you where not doing any harm, how does the officer know you are harmless, did you ask for permission to shoot, which if you had, i'm 99 oercent sure they would have given it to you, you say that major news organizations film there, 9 times out of ten they asked first, we don't know what your intentions are
The cops are not in a public place receiving pay checks from you wankers. They are in their work place doing the hardest job in the world, making it safe for cock heads like you to be able to walk the street at any time of the day or night and not have your camera stolen by some piece of filth who is too lazy to get a job and buy their own camera.
@Pafoofnik1 what i meant by my reply was that it is still an extremely dangerous job the difference being its not a constantly dangerous job where as a logger will always have the challenge of not getting a tree to fall on him a cop has paper work or might be investigating something that takes time but is not dangerous zoo keepers constantly go into danger w/ ferocious animals cops arent ALWAYS going to a shooting. all im saying is cops still do a very
@Pafoofnik1 .. dangerous job and everyone bashes on them if they do the slightest thing wrong or that seems over the top by the inexperienced masses until you have done it you cant really say much about it
@Pafoofnik1 as in page 3 on the comments? i really dont want to have to scroll through that whole page to find it where is the source you got it from?
You are a nit wit. If you are so friggin interested in being in the same place as hard working police officers trying to keep creeps like you safe, join the police force yourself and do some good with your life. Its dicks like you that piss the cops off and make them look bad. I don't suppose you would like it if I came into your bedroom and filmed you being rammed by your boyfriend.
Your statement shows everyone how uneducated you are first off, they are in a public location as public servents which gives him all the right under the united states constitution to be filming.
Second, unless we regulate our police dirty cops will still run the streets on power trips, there is nothing wrong with filming a police officer They work for us not the other way around, WE pay for their paychecks, no we have the right to film them making sure they are doing their jobs right
Is this how things go in Tacoma? I would like to know before I move to the Seattle/Tacoma area. I can stay in this hell hole called Missouri and be discriminated against if that's the case..
This is what a judge has written about filming police officers "Those of us who are public officials and are entrusted with the power of the state are ultimately accountable to the public," the judge wrote. "When we exercise that power in public fora, we should not expect our actions to be shielded from public observation."
hey dumbass when he says to leave leave thats disorderly conduct if u had common sence u would have left so stop being a whiney bitch and fucking man up
@jointheforce101 It's about your right to live as a free individual and sticking up for it. I dont have the whole story here so I won't be quick to judge either side, but if he was released without charge thats an indicator that the officers were violating this guys rights to flim or do whatever he wants to, as long as he isn't infringing on the rights and liberties of others. In other words, just being an American. Our boys in blue deal with so many assholes they seem to forget this at times.
why wouldn't you just listing instead of pushing the situation to the point of no return, if they tell you to do a simple task like "turn off the camera" why wouldn't you?
@LooksLegitBro most likely becuase it's a slippery slope. too many 'simple tasks' and all of a sudden we have become lemmings and have lost too much freedom. If the situation allows for it to be accomplished within reason and safety, I beleive you should absolutely do what is right, regardless of what the 'authority' dictates. Step one: Learn your rights, and the laws. Step two: Be wise and respectful, regardless of what you are faced with.
like a ripe bunch of bananas on the tree we see, but not all the bananas can be eaten, because sometimes some of them are damaged by insects. this is the parable
if any one of the villagers to steal something, do we need to hate and blame the entire population of the village?? not, we should not be prejudiced ... negative stereotypes about the police are always there for each country. I hope we can change it .. we are prejudiced against something because we do not fully know and we do not understa of our beings ... because no one is perfect ...nd the situation. the police are people just like us ..
Someone should find out where that cop lives, wake him up in the middle of the night and tell him he can't sleep in his bed, he has to sleep on the other side of the room.
@MrKamize Yeah, people have the right to their privacy but, as a general comment of the police, some of them seem to forget the are employed with tax payers money to protect and serve that public. Instead they seem to think they are overlords in a police state.
@millhouse636 'some' but not all of them.if any one of the villagers to steal something, do we need to hate and blame the entire population of the village?? not, we should not be prejudiced ... negative stereotypes about the police are always there for each country. I hope we can change it .. we are prejudiced against something because we do not fully know and we do not understa of our beings ... because no one is perfect ...nd the situation. the police are people just like us ..

I agree man, some cops, like the ones in this video, are just bullies. I actually went to a college that had a CJ unit, and some of the students were just plain stupid.
You cannot film child pornography, since mere possession of it is illegal.
Other reasons making it illegal to publish include associating someone in the photo with a cause or product, widely and freely distributing a photo featuring a copyrighted building, misusing a photo of a trademark, and violating contractual rights.
civil rights, amendments...please. I promise you, when you are older, you will understand why even people who have never done anything illegal and are productive members of society despise cops and view them as overbearing bullies with lust for power and had no control in their life when they were kids. I was just like you, long ago. I knew only bad people who broke the law hated cops. I was wrong.

there are several laws being challenged by the aclu prohibiting the filming of police. police claim it's like an illegal wire tap, and that the cop must consent to being filmed, which they never do.
of course the real reason is they don't want to be held accountable for all the crimes they commit. filming of cops has led to an explosion of evidence for the people they harass, beat, and kill. the question is, why would police departments want to cover up this transparency?
tomitstube 7 months ago 22
@tomitstube so all cops are like that? and if all cops should be filmed then shouldnt all doctors nurses paramedics firefighters child care workers aged care workers all be filmed?they kill heaps of people and abuse people yet there is nothing nearly this big about them being filmed they also dont want to be filmed so why is everyone always bashing on the cops?
nicamy8988 7 months ago
@nicamy8988 ~ cops are public employees dealing with their constituents, it isn't the same as a doctor, you can choose a different doctor if they don't want to be taped doing your surgery. people film fire fighters in action all the time.
"why is everyone always bashing on the cops?" because they abuse their power all the time.
if cops don't have anything to hide why should they care?
if they don't they like it, they can get two jobs at wal-mart.
tomitstube 7 months ago
@tomitstube really you know for a fact they abuse it all the time and all cops or even most cps you know this for a fact? i dont have anything to hide doesnt mean i want to be filmed at work most people dont have anything to hide but that doesnt mean they want to be filmed believe it or not but them not wanting to be filmed isnt so they can turn the country into a police state so they can do whatever they want it wont happen. there are heaps of good cops but why arent they filmed?
nicamy8988 7 months ago
@nicamy8988 ~ you mostly answer your own questions. so why do good cops care if the bad ones are busted for bad behavior? seems to me, if they are the professionals you say they are, then they would be glad to be taped.
but you know as well as i do, there are too many cases of cops being caught doing illegal things. they won't police themselves, so it's up to the citizenry to do it. any attempt to outlaw a civil servant being filmed is tantamount to a police state with no accountability.
tomitstube 7 months ago
@tomitstube because who says what is bad behaviour? a religious person might say one thing and a gun enthusiast might say another so who is right? the problem is the film that is analyzed is almost never complete ie no sound not enough sound couldnt hear a part of it shaky camera poor quality that all gets put on the cop negatively instantly and the whole premise is to prove he did wrong so automatically they are thinking he has done something wrong its in their heads. its not fair from the...
nicamy8988 7 months ago
@tomitstube .. start. point being we are overly scrutinizing police for doing wrong when we should be blaming the criminals for doing wrong i mean who the hell thought of good behaviour in jail? they committed a crime just because they were good boys in jail doesnt mean they should be let out early. police have too much to do and are too restricted in how they do it they are also overly scrutinized all the time even off duty so their stress is unbelievable its not fair from the start for them
nicamy8988 7 months ago
@nicamy8988 ~ i don't believe it's "over scrutiny". when a white cop is caught on tape shooting an unarmed black man laying face down on the ground and not moving, (oakland) then that cop didn't get away with a racist murder. i know lots of cops, some in the family, i'm not saying they are all bad, but i know some are real pieces of shit. racist pricks who can't wait to shoot some one. that's just my take.
besides, a lot of the time the tape vindicates the cop. it shouldn't be illegal.
tomitstube 7 months ago
@tomitstube true there are some but thats in everything even the military and ambos its the opposite in gov most poli's are dicks and some are good haha im not saying it should be illegal im saying it shouldnt be so overly used & if they are going to do it the quality should be better the shakiness would be fixed the sound and they should tape before it happens i know thats hard but its not fair on the cop if the dead guy tried to pull an AK out & all you see is the cop shooting 50 rounds
nicamy8988 7 months ago

JFarisA 6 months ago
@JFarisA ~ very true, and well said. it's a show of "force" anymore. unfortunately police departments are becoming more and more like military commando units instead of the guy on the neighborhood beat.
they seem more concerned about protecting the bad apples than weeding them out.

We are being told over and over that we need to have a positive presence, and actually be helpful. It's too bad that all these "bad-asses" think that since they were able to get a badge that they have to act like they are better than everyone. I actually want to help improve my community, not mistreat the people who live in it.

This is what a judge has written about filming police officers "Those of us who are public officials and are entrusted with the power of the state are ultimately accountable to the public," the judge wrote. @jointheforce101 It's about your right to live as a free individual and sticking up for it.

A good tactic in that situation is to say, "If I turn off the camera, may I watch from here?"
If the police say, "Yes", then they just established your right to videotape from where you are.
The propert purpose of police-designated media gathering places is to give the media MORE rights than the public, not less.

You cannot film child pornography, since mere possession of it is illegal.
Other reasons making it illegal to publish include associating someone in the photo with a cause or product, widely and freely distributing a photo featuring a copyrighted building, misusing a photo of a trademark, and violating contractual rights.
