Before Petraeus was brought in (and thank god he was), people on both sides were saying the war was unwinnable. His success as a military commander is not a confirmation of anyone's preexisting steriotypes of people that hold leftist or rightist views are intellectually capable of. And yes, David H. Petraeus is a West Point graduate. And in case you forgot, Petraeus graduated from the same Academy that MacArthur, Patton, Eisenhower, Bradley, Lee, Hood, Jackson, Sherman, and Longstreet did. Envious that you didn't even get in? I get the impression that it is more than capable of producing quality officers. Add in the excellence of VMI and The Citadel and it's no wonder we have the best military on Earth.

First, when a commander is given a mission his job is to win. That is the only commanders' focus. Worrying about anything else besides his mission is not his job.
Second, wearing these awards is tradition. This does not mean he's boasting...he is wearing the "dress" green uniform...
Third, before conducting more youtube "drive-bys shootings" on the General, I recommend reading some counter-insurgency literature. (War of the Flea and Learning to Eat Soup with a Knife to name a couple.)
