This is a better cut of the music than the one Mao used. That said, I think the music was too heavy for her. There is a lightness to her skating that is brought out by the Chopin pieces she has used, as well as the Nutcracker LP that she skated to as a 15 year old.Perhaps she would have done better with the piano version of this piece.

Sadly no, it's a fan montage created by the fans after Mao's music was announced (but before she actually skated to it). Too bad, because I loce how the sound of the bell was incorporated into the music.

The spin is from Mao's performance of "Nocturne" at Stars on Ice in Vancouver (2007). And yes, she does a cross-foot twizzle at 3:45 :)

@cw6391 It is bizzare and I love this music. It's so different to what skaters always skate to. How many times does one have to see a skater skate to "Swan Lake" and some of the other typical music that skaters use? Only a skater with pure confidence could skate to this music and Mao Asada has it.

Asada's skating was superb at the Olympics. If those two little trip-ups hadn't happened, she probably would've beat Kim. I liked her performance more than Kim's... she really changed it up, you know? But I have to admit Kim's skating was ethereal. *shivers* They both have very powerful presences.

I'm glad Kim and Asada were as evenly matched as they were. It's a pain to be leagues ahead of everybody...

i don't know, the piano has better "impact" where the pace picks up 1:46; but the orchestra version definitely hits you different. This is one of the darkest pieces I can think of.

The Japanese media revealed a short while ago that Tat will probably go with live recordings of music for her programs during the "Skate Fantasy" concert on the 29th - which seems to indicate that Mao will indeed skate to some orchestral variant rather (a bit like Clair de Lune). :)

This was not the type of song I was hoping for Mao to choose... I actually always thought of this song as "the scary, bad guy song" when I was a kid! - NOT how I think of sweety pie Mao! BUT, I know Mao can do something great with it, and blow me away! Good luck Mao!

When I heard that she is skating to Prelude in C-Sharp Minor Op.3 No.2 "Bells of Moscow," I was bit concern. Because this music has Very slow beggining, I wasn't sure Triple Axel would work for rather quiet approach and perhaps maybe music may be difficult for Mao to get into the character of this music has to offer. BUT after listening to this arrangement, If she decided to use this version (or something close to this type of arrangement), this may work for her.

She will be skating to Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in C-Sharp Minor Op.3 No.2", but it is not yet known if it will be a piano or orchestra arrangement. The arrangement used in this montage was created by Leopold Stokowski, played by Cincinnati Pops, and edited by me.

Oooo the orchestral version is quite skate-able. rather than the piano solo around youtube...cus that...I'm not sure there will be too many little gaps here and there. but won't the Demonic step sequence come a little bit too early?

In my opinion, this is just too heavy and dramatic for a skater like Mao. She's only 18 and her style and artistry are not yet ready for a "mature" piece like this. It was good for Michelle, maybe...who was 26 then :-/

I know Masquerade FS was just a "challenge" last year, but it seems to me that she choose a similar "too-much" piece again, which is not the best for the Olympics. This year Mao should skate something that "describes" her, so the judges can fully appreciate and reward it. :-)

Mnn, well, but I think this piece of music and the themes Tatiana gave Mao in the coming season matches her so well. =D

The themes are

"the first masquerade(Olympic)" for SP and

" to overcome, to get over" for FP

I think Tatiana intentionally chose these two themes for Mao cuz they are what describe Mao's feeling best in this season.

I wish her the best of luck and I'm looking forward to see her skate to this music. =D

I really love this orchestral version, much more lighter mood and pleasant, than the piano version, a bit darker with very few tempo changes, I have been listening by Vladimir Ashkenazy, one of my favorite pianints.

I have a 100% confidence in coach TAT to create a masterpiece choreography and Mao to skate this "glorious" piece to its full potential.

When Mao skates so freely,confidently with full of energy as she did at the 2009 WTT, she is truly a Special skater.
