The first time I tried using an NES Max, I couldn't get used to it. I always ended up pressing down on the "cycloid" control instead of gliding it. I lost every game I played.
The controller was comfortable, and the turbo buttons good, but the control pad sucked. Having to move it completely side to side to register directions sucked.
@TheMarioluigifans The commercial was pulled from an episode of an old game show called Fun House. The editing program wasn't perfect and caught a couple of seconds of it. You can see the Fun House episode on my channel.
Got mine for 3 dollars 2 days ago. Pretty fun controller, but the "analog", which is actually a sliding piece of plastic on a d-pad doesn't go as well as I expected and the controller is a tad too small for my big hands. Great turbo function though.
Not many know it, but the NES Max had a higher turbo rate than the NES Advantage's highest turbo setting. My mom bought it for me because she thought it was a steering wheel controller. Well, that turned out to not be the case, lol. When playing games like NES Pro Wrestling, it took everyone months to figure out why I could get my move in before them and their "Advantages.". NES Max indeed.
@dlancer2k Nice, but have you ever tried Street Fighter II Turbo or Champion Edition with the Tyco Power Plug? I had Champion Edition, set it to 10 star turbo, then cranked my Power Plug to the max and E.Honda was so fast, he didn't move. Yet he could totally take out half of someone's damage just standing around. Chun Li just stood with her leg up in the air and did the same thing. Now that's turbo. Moving so fast you no longer move at all.
with the NES Pro Wrestling game. whoever was using the Max would get their move in first roughly 80% of the time even with the Advantage turbo set all the way up.
This was a very innovative and surprisingly ergonomic controller for it's time and my favorite for the NES; turbo buttons aside. Of course turbo buttons are great too.
@Lastury I agree. I remember having a controller like this when I played my NES games, and I liked it better than the original that many know and remember.

Why were thick shades a necessity for children spokespeople back in the day? Were they blind or sensitive to even a blink of light?

I found one of these at a Salvation Army for 3 bucks.
Awesome controller, but the slide pad is a little more stiff than the D-pad on a regular NES controller.
