So I had comcast high speed internet and regular free tv, both coming from cable connection.
Now I get this message on my tv that I need new equipment, so I call to order it and they tell me they don't provide any free tv anymore, I have to pay $25 a month for regular basic TV!! WHAT!?
we used to have comcast for basic you get 30 channels for 30$ compare that to at&t to more then 900 channels for 30$ comcasts a joke u pay for making them rich as usual
@lightningbolt99999 wtf i have comcast and they're fine for me. I even have this DTA box like in this video in my garage, and i don't need to pay extra for it!!!
@coffeeandsugar20, I am not surprise if you are one of the idoits COMCRAP shitty wannabe true technician, cheating, stealing, etc.. from customers home.
HD-DTA's will be available some day. They only support RF and HDMI, which is bad if you like to use Component. Of course an HDFury will solve that problem until the MPAA tries to shut them down. New regulations will allow these units to work without needing a CableCard.
Comcast's "digital" transition is a joke. The DTA box is a parasite that has attached itself to my nice new HDTV and crippled it and for what, a couple more channels I'll never watch? Comcast and they're "world of more" can go to Hell.
Forgot to mention, the Cheap Comcast DTA box does NOT come with HDMI output. How can Comcast sleep at night and not worrying about ripping off people? The quality of the picture is not truly best either.
Comcast DTA is requirement is illegal. Can't get local HD channels as OTA per FCC. Comcast forced you to buy at least a manual A/B switch or Upgrade to their Digital HD receiver box. A class-action lawsuit is coming, just watch on your Comcast SD and it will make headlines on CCN.
@NightSociety That isn't illegal you idiot. This isn't the same digital transition that took place in Jun. 2009. I have a Comcast digital cable box that is standard def w/ on demand and I can't watch the HD local OTA channels. Hows that class action LOLsuit going?
@coffeeandsugar20 u ARE the idoit JERK SHITTTY DUMBASS! you need to do more research & come back with the correct answer. Apparently, u don't know much about TVs. We both on the same page on digital req'd. The problem is Comcast Digital Adapter Box Does NOT allowed any Users to view LOCAL Channels in HD via the Cable signals Without a subscribe to (HD) Digital Box! According to FCC this is illegal, but since a lot of ppl watch TV via internet, netflix etc.. no care really know or care.
@coffeeandsugar20 , well little boy, dont worry about speelllings it really is irrelevant here, & it shows how NAIVE u are and information u know about. Stop whining go tell ur parents how u fake ur age to get a YouTube account..what a dumbass jerk. :(
you dont really need these boxes, just get an HDTV that has a built in digital converter box built into it then set the reception to Cable and then run the auto channel program and after that you should have all the channels you normally get. all these boxes are are MPEG2 Decoder boxes and maybe a thing that arranges the channels so they are on the right locations to match the tv guide. sure it may be a big technical but at least you can watch what you are paying for
You won't be able to do that much longer. Anything other than the local channels will be encrypted and even the newest TVs won't be able to get them without some sort of box from Comcast, Tivo(or something like it), or a Cable Card.
I can get some HD channels w/o this box, some even full HD but my TV isnt full HD its like 1280X720P or whatever I dunno. and why encrypt channels like MTV discovery A&E TBS they are just cable channels I can see encrypting movie channels. I hope the FCC doesnt issue that thing to comcast so that they can encrypt channels. its pointless other than piracy but they should just make it a federal offense to tamper with the cable think on the poles which I think it is anyways.
Without HD(and I've read that they won't go above channel 99, but this may be wrong or vary by area) DTAs are a step down from the capabilities of an HD tv, yet required if you don't have a STB or want to get anything more than locals. I've been researching this a lot over the past few days as I am getting ready to go Digital.
DTAs are only SDTV and dont support HD. comcast is ripping you off there are hidden HD channels I found HD versions of local channels and even TBS HD.
It was very disappointing to know that DTA's do nothing more than translate a digital signal into something that analog TV's can display(that's all they are designed for). A step down from an HD tv, and are Comcast's way of doing the bare minimum to conform to Federal regulations.
What I previously said may be wrong if you are only subscribing to the analog service anyway. My research involved the Digital tier and the DTA would be needed to get Digital tier only channels. To put a previous point to rest, it will go over channel 99, but if you only subscribe to Analog this probably won't be an issue. The problem is that the Digital Starter Package includes HD here and this POS won't get that. I can live without the On Demand and Guide.

No one have found how to bypass this damn digital shit? I was with almost 100 free channels, now I just only have less than 20.
Obviously I was stealing the cable TV, so it wasn't free at all.

you can even receive stations in full HD that you CAN'T get by using the DTA box. I found a few local ones in HD.

It still works. I have a samsung lcd, and I have around 80 channels, but on the old tv even with the box I get only 20, the stupid box doesn't work.
