I was just diagnosed and am seeing Dr. Tina Mercantel in Gilbert Az. She is a naturopath and is amazing! All this is right on and she is treating my adrenal fatigue too. First dr in 6 years to actually do the right tests. I'm on my way to managing this.
If this is something that has been happening to you for over 16 year without diagnosis what are the risks of the damage to the thyroid from being beyond repair? I just leaned that I have this issue no moment ago. But I have been showing symptoms of it since puberty and I am now 32 years of age. What sort of issues could I be looking at due to long term misdiagnosis of the issue?
Most of what I have read regarding gluten and hashimoto's indicates that studies show a relationship between the two. The studies I have read indicate that the two conditions coincide - it is a correlation between the two but not necessarily one causing the other. Is there one you have seen that does show this? I would be curious to read it. Thx!
I agree that many people with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis have a gluten sensitivity, but the same is true with many autoimmune conditions. However, not all of the patients I have seen with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis have a gluten sensitivity or intolerance. I have read numerous articles and books on the relationship you're referring to, but I haven't come across any formal research studies.
@baudasious ...problem can be made much worse by a patient ALSO having a terrible candida infection - if the candida is not brought under control none of these recommendations will work very much - hot tub body relaxtion, deep breathing, singing, laughter & very moving music alters you inside also for really disabled patients & trigger point massage for seized up muscle nerves
I know many doctors recommend people with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis eliminating gluten from their diet, but I don't completely agree with this. I do think it's important for those following a natural treatment protocol to do this for at least 30 days, and preferably longer than this. But while gluten sensitivity can exacerbate one's condition, I don't believe it's the major cause of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, and therefore don't recommend for everyone to completely eliminate it from their diet.
surprised you didn't mention gluten sensitivity as the major cause of hashimoto's (around 90% of the cases). if you have hashimoto's (=antibodies to your thyroid), you NEED to get rid of gluten in your diet.
My Doctor is a life saver. He took out half the thyroid and a nodule, and since then I have been loseing weight slowing but still happy to be loseing the wight. and Im eating better. too.
