He is awesome. Is this a recording, though? I hear overlapping of voices and I feel like that's impossible to do live. For example Hyde's laugh over Jekyll's held note at 3:11. I was just curious, I'm a new fan of this musical. :D Either way Anthony Warlow is...EPIC.
@NapolitanoMusic Hyde and Jekyll were done by Anthony, but Hyde was pre-recorded so Anthony sang Jeckyll's part between Hyde's parts as it played. So thats how he did it <3
I saw this when it was making its original cross country run before hitting Broadway. This scene was originally staged as a "floating" green head of Hyde with his singing pre-recorded. It was horrible. I was so happy the second time I saw it and they had changed it to the back and forth they do now.
Many singers sing Hide and Jekyll completely different. Warlow doesn't, he really pulls of the concept of Hide being a part of Jekyll that is now allowed to be free, but a part that always existed (which is how it is written in the book). Not that I heard all interpretations of this song, not by far, but of those I heard his is the best by far.
Anthony set the standard for Jekyll & Hyde, despite not performing the role live on stage. Everyone else just tries to match him on this concept recording.
Rob Evan is my favorite Jekyll and Hyde because he has a good voice, and his interpretation and performance of all the songs (especially this one) is spot on. I do like Rob Evan's voice, though, it's very good. I'm not too keen on Robert Cuccioli's performance of this song, aand I actually thought David Hasselhoff's performance wasn't bad. Certainly it wasn't up to par with all the names I listed above, but it was still ok, certainly not horrible.
I think Robert Cuccioli puts a hell of a lot of emotion into his performance, but Rob Evan has a much larger range and can play around with the songs, such as the end the Alive Reprise and the end of Confrontation, both of which he ends on an A which sounds phenomenal. Anthony Warlow puts a great rendition, but it IS an album and is different than a stage production.
sorry, Rob Evan is better than Cuccioll, Hasselhoff (and whoever supports his singer is retarded and demented)...case closed. I just listened to all of them today, so I'm not biased. oh and this is the album, not the actual stage performance. Rob Evan is an infinite times better

although this isn't a cast recording (unfortunately), I have to say that Anthony Warlow just seems to have a natural affinity for capturing the personality of every role I've heard him sing, no matter the song. he's very inspirational, esp since he fought cancer and all.
Is there an instrumentation of this version somewhere on Youtube? I can only find the version Cuciolli did, but I need this one!!! If you know where please help! :D
Insanity and sanity doesn't necessarily have anything to do with self-awareness. Lots of people with scitzopherenia or multiple-personality disorder are aware of their condition and work very hard to control it.
@ArmagonAuthor You do know I was trying to be funny right? I'm saying if you have to consider your insane, there is probably a reason. I'm sorry you took it so seriously. I am aware that there are people with serious illness that this somehow relates too.
@cbelle94 It's too bad he didn't actually play the role on stage! He's an incredible singer. He has also endured cancer in his career, but has come back and done other parts since then! Linda Eder also does wonderful work in this show!
I saw another video where the actor/singer became weak and whimpering every time he was Jekyll. I like this version because Jekyll isn't a mousie, even though he's tormented and tired out from battling his other side; he is determined to be free and holds his ground. You can hear it in the way Anthony sings his part, and I love that.
Of course, I can't discredit how Anthony skillfully warps his voice into the raspy Hyde's without ruining his vocal chords. Serious talent and hard work. <3
@AnnetteTurner88 So true XD Thing with Hasselhoff to my opinion is...He is not a bad screen-actor (as stage actor he just doesn't have it) and not even a bad singer at all. But if you combine those things together, he just sucks big time.
The first time my friend showed me this was when I was really into Les Miz and I didn't know there were two Confrontations out there, the first version of the song I listened to was this, at the time it was so overwhelming I got a migraine but I slowly fell in love with it, now I know almost every word in the show <3
I was raised listening to Cuccioli's version and I feel like the tempo and his violence just work better there, but man, can't deny that Warlow's superb.
He is the best ... but he was very sick for few years. He had lymphoma and rest for few years after chemotherapy. I think this is the reason he stay lay low for a while.
We had jekyll&hyde as a topic in musics and listened to all the songs sang by anthony warlow - it was awesome!!! Afterwards we watched the whole play as a DVD from a broadwayshow - and honestly: It was ridiculous. And after that we went to the theatre to see another version of it. So I have got plenty to compare, but anthony is simply the best. But sadly enough I can't find the other songs here on youtube(like transformation etc.) ... :,(
@SingenStattAtmen same here! I watched/listened three different versions of Jekyll & Hyde and I am dying to listen to other Anthony Warlow's songs here on youtube! I think Hasselhof's acting was good but liked Warlow's voice more.
Well I think I will let the cat out of the bag and reveal a secret of this recording.
Yes both parts are sung by Warlow, and yes I am sure he would still do a fantastic job playing it on stage (even though he has never done it before) but there is a trick to this recording.
This is a recording but not a live recording. Warlow recorded Jekyll's part seperately to Hyde's - that is why there is such a quick switch between the two characters and why Hyde is capable of laughing over Jeckyll singing
I figured. It's still great, though. (I personally don't see the purpose of having both parts be played by the same actor, anyway. It just over complicates things.)
I love this version! Anthony Warlow rocks!!!!! Quick questions...well more like three: Who's the guy/what version is it at 0:20 and 2:20 and 2:30 and (okay, four) 2:40? And an unrelated question to the last four: do you know where I can find a video of Anthony Warlow singing this live? I want to see what he does! Thanks
I love the way that he pronounces "nightmare" it sends shivers down my spine, no other singer has made a distict seperation of Jekyll and Hyde, I know that it is really hard to do this part and it takes a lot of talent to be able to do this, but just from hearing it, I think that Anthony Warlow does the best and I haven't even seen the blocking
I remember when I saw this play at my high school a year ago and came here on you tube to look up the confrontation. What was done at my school does it no justice lol
This song is amazing...although it must be really hard to switch between the two inflections (a light, lyric sound for Jekyll and a deep, dramatic one for Hyde) in a live performance.
SUCH an amazing song from an amazing musical. On Glee, in the episode "Duets" when Kurt decided he was doing a duet with himself, I was SO hoping he'd do this song!! He didn't, he did something from Victor Victoria :( It was good, but this would've been better. I love this song. Takes such talent to pull it off.
How could anyone dislike this? I can't even begin to fathom why anyone would give it the thumbs down...Listening to Anthony Warlow is like having an orgasm in my ears!
Would actually like to see Warlow perform this live. This recording is a studio recording and although different, the hyde voice and the jekyll voice overlap. This is only possible in the studio NOT on stage! As someone who has worked his butt of on stage singing this part and this particular song, I can only judge Warlows performance after seeing him do it on stage without the help of studio mixing equipment. PLEASE keep this in mind when judging this reording!
@MitchConnelly That's putting it lightly. He made a mockery of the character(s). Warlow's voice is the stark opposite- passionate, deep, profound! Mmm! Gives me the chills!
@PrescriptionDrMcCoy If they ever did a two actor thing, I think that Hasselhoff could play Hyde and Warlow could do Jekyll. But until then, old Hoff should just stick to the Baywatch revivals.
Thank you so much for uploading this song! Love listening to Anthony sing! He is the best by far! :-)

I like it, a lot, but I think that people underestimate those who -play- the scene more than they sing it.
I like to feel the sharpness of anger, of anguish, no long notes except on a couple parts. More....Spontaneity.

How could anyone dislike this? I can't even begin to fathom why anyone would give it the thumbs down...Listening to Anthony Warlow is like having an orgasm in my ears!

Watch Rob Evan's version, he shows everyone how it's done properly. But then again it's all down to taste.

@MsRosiecakes I AGREE. EVAN IS THE BEST.

THAT WAS AWESOME! Who is the guy playing him at 2:57?

Hasslehoff sucks.
MitchConnelly 1 year ago
@MitchConnelly That's putting it lightly. He made a mockery of the character(s). Warlow's voice is the stark opposite- passionate, deep, profound! Mmm! Gives me the chills!

This role was made for Anthony !1
Outstanding voice & passion !!
Play this musical over & over .
Hope I get to see him in concert one day

@witness124 Ha ha I got it Bad for the Hoff -.^
PrescriptionDrMcCoy 1 year ago
@PrescriptionDrMcCoy If they ever did a two actor thing, I think that Hasselhoff could play Hyde and Warlow could do Jekyll. But until then, old Hoff should just stick to the Baywatch revivals.

Might I ask, how is it that their voices overlap?
