i have a video clip, and i'm trying to drag the video across the timeline to a specific time in the movie i'm making, but it won't let me drag it to that time. it will only stay in the spot that it is in now. can you please help me with this?

First find the spot where you would like to have the video/image to stop, place the timeline indicator at that exact spot and then click on the split function. this would split the file that you are working with. Select the piece you would like to remove by clicking on it and then hit delete. That should then only get rid of the section you do not want. When doing this the timeline must be active, ie you must work in the timeline section itself. Hope this helps.

i currently use windows vista movie maker to do tutorials on here and as you know youtube picks out an image exactly half way through your vid as your thumbnail pic but the problem im having is that when i do my movie on the movie maker the timeline for example says its a 3min movie but when i publish it and replay it its actually longer than 3mins long 3mins 38secs so the pic i used at 1min30secs is not the thumbnail i wanted what can i do am i doing something wrong ? :(

Could you be a little more specific what you mean by timelines. A timeline is based on a project, so deleting a timeline would mean deleting a project completely.
