  • Wow i am very impressed with their dedication. Not being allowed to earn a living from teaching the martial arts, yet they continue.due tot heir love for buddha. Not my idea of fun, but certainly to be respected.

  • Disregarding the religious tag it may have; what the Master Monk says is very interesting and worthwhile listening to. ¿What negative effect could striving to be that much better have?...

  • I read the swatstika came from the Ayrians in Iraq. Perhaps Iraq received it from India??? I dont think anybody really knows, it is very very old and lets face it Hitler was a very very strange man that borrowed ideas from allsorts of places and then put his onw weird spin on it.

  • shorinji kempo's cool :D

  • even though the swatika is originally from india, the nazis did not steal it from asian culture but from the old norse culture. The swastika was an important symbol for the vikings as well and the nazis were very much inspired by viking culture

  • SIMBOLO NAZISTA???

  • @luistifani fueron los nazis los que copiaron, con las aspas hacia la derecha

  • so do shin so created kempo before ed parker and all them? thats not what i was told...

  • @bowerybaker :D 'merica

  • @bowerybaker American

American KENPO karate and Japanese KEMPO are different things. Why not look it up at Wikipedia or elsewhere?

  • @PerMagOls Kenpo & Kempo are the exact same Kanji! In Japanese "n" & "m" get pronounced the same a lot. The Arts (Japanese, American) are different but the names are not. So before telling people to "look it up" I suggest you do a bit of that yourself, pal!

  • @GottaBeSaid Ok, I should have written AMERICAN kenpo and JAPANESE kempo. I ment that the two arts have different origins, not that the names are so very much different. But hey, even the sun has spots :D I am just as knowlegdeable as any other keyboard warrior here on youtube (in other words I don't know an iota) :D

  • the nazi's screwed everything over. Even the swastika that belonged to asia...

  • About the swastika: the part faced outwards symbolizes peace. The part that faces inwards on the dogi (jacket), towards yourself, symbolizes strength. That is, you should show other care and love, but be strong on the inside. At least in shorinji kempo.

  • Only complete idiots do not respect strength. I would do a strength rune now, but fuck runes are not in ascii. SO GO FUCK YOURSELF

  • ironmonkey, the swastika is an old symbol found in many cultures throughout the world. The Germans did not steal it from the Buddhists, it existed before them. They did reverse it. The swastika is a symbol of the sun meaning fertlity/life. So reversed as the nazis did, it is against life. Learn your history.

  • actually buddhism didn't have a specific direction with their swastika. It symbolizes the sun.

  • @wontonga

that '' Nazi Swastika is a solar simbol . . . it exsisted in pritty much all the ancients culture and wanna also make u notice that is red and not black like the nazi 1 so . . . well know stuffs before just randomly speaking.

  • @wontonga Good spelling skills as well I see,

  • @quathar - Ah Sooo, Sanka you vely vely much for honorobary pointing that one out for me. Arigato.

  • all you need is love

  • @Blackclouds69 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah its a manji!!! how many times do i need to explain

  • 18 Luo Han was from the 18 Luo Han Monks.

5 Animal KF forms was from Jueyuan, a master of the 18 Luohan Hands. He expand to 72, but wanted to do more. He travel to Gansu Province to the city of Lanzhou and met Li Sou. He was a master of Hong Quan. they work with Bai YuFeng and expand the 72 techniques to around 170. Those 170 techniques were than divided into the 5 animal forms.

  • The first 2 men who became the very first Shaolin monks were already experts in kung fu. Shaolin kung fu came from them. ("History of Chinese Martial arts: Jin Dynasty to the Period of Disunity") Also, they found weapons in the monestaries of Chang'an. ("Martial arts Myths of Shaolin Monastery, Part I: The Giant with the Flaming Staff") Suggesting the monks already practied martial arts.

  • part 1:

kung fu was in China before Shaolin. Bodhidharama is dated at around 5th century CE. Kung fu existed way before that. for example, Shuai Jiao. Jiao Li was also taught to Zhou Dynasty soldiers. Also, Spring and Autumn Annals of Wu and Yue, the Bibliographies in the Book of the Han Dynasty and the Records of the Grand Historian all document martial arts that predate Shaolin.

  • HAHA so this is where those indian clowns think bodhi taught them kung fu.

how nice the guy says "according to legend" but doesnt mention WHERE THAT LEGEND IS FROM.

gather around, i shall tell you.

the ONLY document that EVER credited Bodhi with Kung Fu is the PREFACE of the 1800s versions of the Yi Jin Jing.

discredited by historians due to its historical inaccuracies.

ex. saying Taihe period of Emperor Xiaoming of Northern Wei when it was under Xiaowen.

  • ok, somebody has commented on my profile more than once calling me a bigot, i was pointing out that calling it a cult was STUPID. if anyone can't understand that then it amazes me they have enough intelligence to use a computer. stop commenting, i was defending buddhists, anybody who thinks i was insulting bhuddists is now officially a MORON. thank you for your time, sorry if i wasted it and it didn't apply to you.

  • 鈴木先生をお見受けすることが出来てうれしかったです。私の学生時代には、鈴木先生は事務局長でした。卍マークの入ったジープに乗っていらっしゃいました。

    今どういう立場でいらっしゃるんだろう。

  • bbc was better making series like this than today...

those were the good old days.....

  • the swastikas were stolen from the Chinese Buddhist culture by the Germans who changed the angle of it and tried to give it their own meaning which is very negative!

  • some say swastikas are a reversal of a chinese/indian ancient positive symbol.

    this implies an evil intention.

I think it is more plausible that it is a straight lift from Nordic runes.

many runes were used, such as the S.S. symbols which is two symbols for victory.

    and panzer division symbol etc.

the swastika in rune terms means fire. the use of red is also symbolic.

hitler and his cronies were obsessed with an ideal of skandinavian descent and a mythical universe of fire and ice.

  • @ironmonkey2 You are absolutely right, and because the nazis use them in the popular negative way, it has been hard to distinguish the difference of the swastikas.

  • @ironmonkey2 true, but actually, the Romans took it first from the Hindus (not the Buddhists) and the nazis later got it from the Romans since it spread to the european parst through the roman empire and its expantion and was left in things like roman literrature that was used by germany later on.

  • @ironmonkey2

Thats wrong, the Svastika(sanskrit!) is much older knowingly about 6000 years. It is much older than buddhism and it was used also by the Vedics, Celtics and old Germans. Thats just historical!

  • Buddhism is a way of life not a religion, we (Buddhists), we follow the law (dharma), no religion, this is a later interpretation of the doctrine is that the master of ninjitsu that you are a Korean practrica Christian, but respect the faith and belief you, with or without ceremonies ceremonies, a Buddhist (as long as the dharma), remains a Buddhist, as well as the crhristians a home in need of worship or not worship.

  • exactly the point!

  • i love this form of karate!

  • hahaha

  • "collage drop outs hiding in the mountains for 2 yrs and getting a black belt instructor level for their short time." I'm pretty sure he made it clear that most of them are University graduates.

  • why do people have to bring up "brainwashing cult" every time they see something they don't believe in? does that mean ALL bhuddists are cultists? hmm.. odd... i don't see punch anywhere lol

  • OMG its the NAZIs!!! (ah, I´m just kidding...)

  • trust me it's not religious brainwashing... it's actually really tame, and friendly. Also it's linked to Bhuddism which again is completely peaceful.

  • its always some dumb ass christian that wanna talk shit bout other people.

  • The two figures that appear at the top threat of the documentary are both divine guardians, known as Shitennos (in Japanese) or Lokhapalas (in Sanskrit), are usually placed at the entrance to the temples to prevent the entry of evil.

  • What's the problem why are you so angry? I did not claim to be a strong and individual thinker, I said that's something we try to encourage in Shorinji Kempo. Beati in spiritu pauperi...

    Anyway, enjoy your life!

  • WTF are you talking about? First of all, you have to have a black belt BEFORE starting training at Hombu dojo as far as i know.

    2. there's no "non contact sparring" in SK, it's certainly not as hard as mma but there is contact.

3."religeous brain washing cult": again, you don't what what you're talking about, there is no brain washing in SK, people are encouraged to think for themselves, to become "strong individuals".

Do some research before you judge things.

  • neither is Shorinji Kempo. Before judging why not get some experience of it? I practice SK and it definately hasn't messed up my life, in fact it can help make you a better person cause it teaches compassion and discipline.

  • Kempo in the form for the reference of the japanese of the chinese martial arts (kung-fu)

  • So Doshin (the founder of Shorinji Kempo), was great man and buddhist

  • is this the same as shaolin kempo?

  • basicly

  • Look at the Masonic-Lodge, which is the secular-religion of America.

  • aku ingin kayak kamu..........

  • wow ppl are dumb this is about martial arts and you guys talk about how christianity is bad and all this talk about incest justr shut up ppl even have incst in japan and other countrys i dont like it but hey thats them if they gotta keep a population going so lets shutup and watch this awsome video.

  • @ricky81187 I agree, but I still think religion is dumb. It took me 12 seconds to wrote that. Now I can watch this.

  • What does Christianity have to do with incest, murder, and discrimination? Number one, people, before America, were burned at the stake or put on the Breaking Wheel for have incestual relations. Look at modern times. The majority of Americans in favor of the death penalty and powerful capital punishment are Christians. Discrimination: Look at Christians around the world - I mean REAL Christians, not those idiots on myspace - They go around helping others. The entire basis is acceptance

  • Just so you know, the one that Hitler use is different and it's sideways...

  • I do shornji kempo in Britain.

It's lot too much of the philospical aspect in my opion though.

  • Wait a second... They pay for tuition but are not allowed to turn their training into a profitable career?

  • The tuition pays for upkeep of the temples.

and in more moderen terms the rent for the spot center or electricity bill.

  • That's what I'd assumed. Just thought I'd cause a little stir :P

  • God bless

  • Now THATS an intro :)

  • its a manji, has been used for thousands of years before the swaztica

  • Yes, drums... In France we practise martial art with pipes and accordions, not drums.

  • Exactly... But my point was for him to look it up himself because it's something everyone should know so that ppl don't get called natzi for no reason whatsoever -.-

But it's encouraging with ppl who knows what it's all about =)

  • yes we do it :)

  • I hope you know they are called a Swastika, and what they stand for...

If not, then don't say a word =P

  • LOL at 00:40! His expression!

  • in my dojo there is a pretty strict hiearchy and i sometimes feel like i am not training for myself but just not to get hassled by shodans anyone ever felt that way?

  • Yes, sadly this is happening in aikido dojos as well. Its a shame that the martial arts will always attract a certain element of egotistical people.

  • the branch master should be made aware of the problem.if nothing changes ,find a new dojo.

  • Another close minded christian tard. Go back to your fairy tale bible and your christian history of murder, pillaging and incest.

  • Well said, GodOfThunder.

  • RedBeetle: "All the training in the world has nothing to do with who wins a fight." this really does sum up the reliability of redbeetles knowledge in martial arts.

  • odd how the 'lord' will generally pick the people who have trained to win.

  • are there any taekwondo documentaries like this on youtube???

  • why the heck does he have a swaatstica on his arm.

  • Read the other posts please... :)

  • There is no anti-Semetic or Pro-Nazi meaning behind the swastika presented in this video, those meanings did not exist until 1910.

It is important that viewers understand that the swastika has ancient and honorable origins, and it is those that apply to this particular documentary.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the swastika on his uniform represents "peace" and "mercy", far from what its nazi counterpart represented, which was a twisted version of the hakenkreuz swastika

  • it used to be used as sign of peace buy bhudist and hindu until the nazi hijackt it

  • yes, it is a swastika, which means cross turning like a wheel, can both directions, also used in Native American designs. Hitler chose it as his symbol, and Hitler was a sociopath, and Shorinji Kempo is based on Buddhism, and compassion towards others, the antithesis of Hitler, and the wheel is also going in the opposite direction.

  • I´ve doing shorinji kempo now two years and i can say that this is damn good martial art.. heh Mizuno Sensei have teached me once :p

  • btw if you look well it is the oposite of the swastika...it turns in a diferent way.

  • yes, but a manji turns both ways, the swastika only one way. That is most likely the reason why our manji turns to the right, so as not to be confused with the swastika by ignorant people. Obviously it doesn't work <_<...

  • just for the next people that come and see the video, Shorinji Kempo ins't related with Nazis. Please search the meaning of things before saying things like "The swastika Kenpo cult" or "The Kempo Nazis :-O" The symbol you see as a complete diferent meaning that the one knowned nowadays and that one came first than the one used by nazis.

  • dude why did u bother answering..just shake ur head and ignore

  • meh, you're like those people who think anarchy is bad because of the misinterpretation of the word. I disagree, and as a Kempo Kenshi, am asking you to please stop posting disrespectful comments about things you don't understand

  • Originally it was a Buddist symbol before Hilter came along.

  • Well...the Christian religion is a cult. Cult isn't a negative word, it is: formal religious veneration,

or a system of religious beliefs and ritual; its body of adherents. Kempo does have a religious part to it, although lately it has been increasingly separated from WSKO.

  • too bad it is too blurry to reckognize any faces...it think I see a kenshi i know...only now he is a sensei

  • you are an idiot if that was serious

  • Most of the japanese martial arts came from okinawa, okinawan martial arts came from China, chinesse martial arts came from India.

    Everything comes from India

  • Before that was Greece and Persia. When India was dominated. Before that Sumerians and before that...dinosaurs...rofl

  • LOL

  • I saw some guys doing Shorinji Kempo at the Ayase Budokan when I was there training in Bujinkan. Those Kempo guys are loud...

  • Our Ki'ai is vital. I find that my hits mimick my Ki'ai (i practice kempo) so we are very careful with it. in a loud way

  • Shorinji kempo is very interesting both as martial art and as a sociological phenomena.İt is a "new way" but also full with tradition, religion and history. İt is an example of how japanese society absorbs items from foreign culture but make them "japanese".

  • nice
