I remember the "You have a black picture; this is a 20 second test" back in the 80's. What was its purpose? Having worked in TV, my guess is that XETV's engineers were synchronizing and setting the transmitter link between the San Diego studios and the transmitter-master control center in Tijuana.
@richartrod I so remember that that transmission was of a Saturday morning since Tom and Jerry was the first cartoon on the line up!...lol what memories of simpler times and GOOD cartoons! ....Greetings from Tijuana!
I used to live in San Diego to do you have the New Brodcast day oepnings that was used after they left ABC in 76, this opening had a Psycadellic look with classical music, but used the same good morning anouncment, I remember the channel 6 number coming forward out fo that opening mentinoed earlier here. Also anyone have promos from XETV from before 86 saved??
Thanks for the memory.I grew up in San Diego and I remember all the stations broadcasting out of T.J playing the mexican national anthem when they went of the air etc.

XETV has its studios in San Diego, but its transmitter is in Tjuanna, Mexico. It broadcasts in english. Being that it is a station being operated out of two countries, it is not surprising that they would do this.
XETV has been all-English since it was established by Televisa back in 1953. Back then only two channels were licensed to San Diego by the FCC but there was enough demand for a third. The only way to get one was from across the border from TJ's two open channel slots. Televisa saw an opportunity and thus launched XETV. I've been told its very popular in TJ itself because many viewers there also speak English and, being the city's oldest channel, it's something to be proud of.

Was it a multi-lingual program station like KSCI 18 at the time? XETV became Fox in 1988 and has switched to the CW 2008. +
