Not only it can make ur attention span shorter, also cause problems in reality. my sister is in grade school and there was a program last week, it was about cyber-bullying. The girl was getting so mad that 1 day her mom found the girl in her closet.... dead.
It's all well and good saying this, but she needs to get proper scientific evidence, not just circumstantial evidence and saying 'isn't it funny how autism/ADD rates have increased when facebook/twitter etc came along'. Our scientific world doesn't work on coincidences! Doesn't anyone remember their parents saying "TV gives you square eyes"...? ...
I deleted facebook years ago and my personal relationships have grown stronger since then. I communicate strictly through e-mail or texts & calls. I have all the info from the people that really matter to me.
I've been able to concentrate more in my family and my personal and professional development.
Before that, I wasted most of my time playing games on facebook, etc.
LOL, they said the same thing about television...which IMO is much worse, at least when you interact with people through the written or spoken words you are engaging your brain not mindlessly watching something....this is way to simplistic of a view. Autism rates have increased along with pollution, mainly heavy metals and toxins in our water and air...I can agree spending to much time in virtual relationships blur the lines of reality for some. I know many of mine IRL...
I am actually talking about this in my class. I am reading an essay by Christine Rosen called "The new meaning of mobility." It's on the internet if you search for it. It talks about how dependent we are on technology and more.
I've had to repeat the part from 2:51 go 3:22 several times to make sure what I am hearing is correct and am amazed by her bigotry to autism.
Autism is NOT developed by staring at a screen and chatting. It is a genetic defect that happens during development before a person is born. My brother is autistic and was born that way. There have been autistic people born before now that way.
She clearly has no understanding of autism and used the word as a collective for people with social problems!
Haha @marinna205 thankyou! I mean it's all very much so true I mean we have all these things wrong in the world y r ppl worried about this? I think it's a crazy waste of time and stupid to argue over somethig so silly!
Okay wow this is the stupidest shit I have ever seen and the fact that y'all r getting upset or mad is just wow. Okay 1st of all grow up it's not ur life it's not ur prob so for u to make a bit deal is just stupid fb aka Facebook is fine anything is bad for u when u do it too much even videogames or online videogames it's all bad but just the face that y'all r fighting over this makes me laugh... I mean really grow the fuck up
@1488punkrockeremo Hold on buddy, nobody's getting upset here, we're simply having a discussion and analysis, something we assert is happening less and less because of the one-dimensional trivialisation of social life Facebook provides. You say anything is bad for you when you do it too much - well yes, society as a whole has an unhealthy obsession with Facebook, we wouldn't be debating this if people only used it a little during their free time! I think we all know who needs to grow up here!
people dont discuss important topics on facebook. bull-fucking-shit. Most people are on facebook cause they wanna see whos single and whos not and hope to get laid, or to talk shit and put up an act.
(let me give yalls a tip: If you a sad case, COKE is how you get laid. Time tested method. Thats why its illegal, just makes dat pussy too easy;-)
The networking argument is bull too because they are gonna turn off the internet as soon as the shit starts going down.
I ve got kind of mixed feeling on this. On the one hand, the buji bitch is kinda right.
(oops did i say bitch i meant cun.. ehh woman.)
on the other hand, when I hear old fogies talking about ADD, I just hear fear because they know we can assimilate information WAY faster than they can.
I agree with the dude who said gamings a lot worse. But seriously people, get off facebook, Take some fucking DRUGS, have casual sex and live a little. yallz is becoming THE MOST BORING GENERATION EVER.
I keep away from stuff like that. I play a internet game, but only cause I got nothin better to do :P If I had a better camera, I'd be making movies. Secondly, I think that stuff just confuses you and brainwashes you. Everyone at my school other then me is like spliced with them. They text, they all have facebook etc. etc. I'll say "Texting is stupid.." They all go "OH MY GOD ARE YOU INSANE?!" Im like, "No, but you are."
Facebook, that's like drugs. When you refuse to access it, people still try to "convert" you, to join it. I never joined like i never drugged... I don't know about games, i still play videogames, but i think you have to "take back of the situation" and just limit your game times. Tv, as video games, and sites like facebook can harm you more or less depending how many time you stay into it. Anyway facebook is full of morons...
dont join facebook. remeber illuminati online (AOL)? adolf hitler teamed up with the devil to make the ultimate nazi and illuminati army, creating facebook and twitter. EVIL
OH, no it's not because we're all psychopaths and less people have been married then ever before. Nope, has nothing to do with that. It's totally the social networking sites.
For me, personally I think my attention problems were caused more by excessive computer gaming then they were by talking on forums.
I used to be a very hardcore gamer. Gaming in excess can mimic a drug in addictiveness. Games offer instant gratification and stimulate the brain - and over time I found my brain would try to filter out less stimulating information and my mind would often wander.
My attention span improved dramatically when I took a step back and limited my game time.
