guns and roses was powerful, sexy, masculine, passionate, confident, polished, relatively normal, this is the opposite of all that, strange, intriguing. if guns and roses is a powerful erection, this song is impotence. it's sarcasm, though, satirical, a mockery of a pop song, a more subtle form of subversion than punk.
neverous, geeky, nerdy, neurotic, isolated and inept come to mind whilst listening to this song. it's like a fails as a pop rock song, or it doesn't even try. very interesting, as you can tell, this is a first time listen for me.
it's very atonal and arythmical, intentionally awkward, they publish and display what most bands would consider mistakes. this is the opposite of guns and roses, no wonder it was never very popular.
The series of heavy earthquakes are not NATURAL. These are all ARTIFICIAL EARTHQUAKES. By now many of Japanese have realized the whole story. This is the real war!

Even though I was a 16 yr old kid in the States in 1982, when this was being played by all the alternative rock stations, and there were few, having come out of our engagement in Vietnam, the social criticism within this song, was well understood! If I recall correctly, because of the "Flaklands War", this song was baned from the airwaives in Thatchers' Britian!Even now many of the lyrics seem apropos!
At last ! A version with Eddi reader singing backin vox. My mates never believed me when I said I'd seen her on TV with them back in the day. YES and thanks!
Simply brilliant! Love the satire.
