looks like that floor barely even needed the drum sander.
someone has tried sanding ours in the 60's. the floor obviously wasn't laid that well in the first place, and then someone has absolutely killed it. it took two days worth of drum and edger sanding just to get close to removing all the standing still gouges.
it was an alright job if it was your 1st, shouldd of been rough sanded on a 45 degree and then 2-3 other sands towards window depending on the grit you started with. your end result had many boards with old finish still on them to many low spots werent hit..
i hate finger blocks! especially when the bitchumin has perished then you need to stick them back... bah! also its better to sand diagonally so you dont create as many low spots ;)
it will do almost 15 years that i do floor, i used to were a belt before, i try without and i kind of like it so now i find it more easy to sand without the belt
first u sand.. then you put a sealer right on wood so it make the wood lighter and will dont get as dark with the time that if it didnt have sealer on it. when u put the sealer you need to polish after with a polishing machine with with 150 grip screen (also between each coat) then u can put 2-3 coat of vernis .. as u decide .. ive been doing this job for 6 years now
What is sealer? Is that the same thing as polyurethane? Im gonna sand my floors on Sat. Im just putting poly on them and no stain. Also I have dogs that like to run in here. How many coats do you recommend? Is this Varathane brand that much more durable then all the other brands? Its so expensive! And what nap roller should I be using to apply it? Any input you can give would be SO helpful. Thanks.
I apply the sealer with a roller if i put polyhurethane or crystal then i buff the sealer then i put the varnish and after that i buff it again and put my last varnish. You dont apply the sealer with a roller if you are gonna put latex sealer or latex varnish.
Even if you buff your floor before your sealer and you dont buff your sealer, your varnish will be rought and you increase your chance that your varnish with time peal.
your buffer took all the sealer off bro

@nanospasm i second that.
our whole first floor is herringbone from about the 1920's. so many of them have come unstuck it's stupid, and VERY annoying.
Also, you hit the bitumen in the lines, it WILL smear

how can you apply the sealer with a roller and then use the buffer? shouldnt you use the buffer first and then apply the sealer with a spreader?
