The story isn't plot driven as much as character driven. And the game is based around it's gameplay (shooting a portal gun and solving puzzles with it) rather than a story driven game.

Honestly, the story doesn't really matter in this game. The main plot is that you're trying to escape from this massive lab, because an evil robot runs it now. Sounds uninteresting, but the game is still awesome.
