I have a Z812IS as well, and have been using it since around 2008 when my old Canon decided to bite the dust. Great camera for stills, and with lots of options too if one doesn't feel or doesn't know how to use the manual options. As a Railfan who uses this for train spotting films, I wish the audio quality was far better improved. I think it shows a bit here where it sounds like one of those recordings of earth from a satellite in space from all the frequencies they get from there.

I also own a Z812. To take great pictures, use the program mode which allows you to set parameters such as color intensity, contrast etc. I was very pleased with the 16X9 photos with this camera burned to a dvd-r and watched on a HD tv set.
I was not so pleased with HD video quality and the atrocious sound quality this camera gives. Believe it or not it does record stereo sound but it's the lousiest stereo sound that I ever heard. The audio is too overmodulated.
i love this camera but i have to agree, the sound sucks ass in loud enviroments like concerts or parties. best thing to do is cover the microphones but whats the point in that.
I own the z812 and yes the sound is awful when theres really high noise as it distorts. Yet with most compact cameras with video function you'll notice this flaw.
Either you accept that this camera has a decent videofunction with decent photographing abilities or you buy a separate videocam. Another solution is to have a separate audiorecording equipment and then overlay the pro-sound on the finished video.
I am interested in purchasing the Kodak Easyshare z812IS.. but every video I have seen so far reveals that this cameras recorded audio in video mode just stinks! Its so distorted with loud noises. Can you confirm this? What are your thoughts on the audio quality? I am leaning toward the canon powershot s5 now even though its about $130 more. Thanks..
