My Dad was a Snr. Mstr. Sgt. at VAFB and we lived on base- I remeber he would tell me on the days they were launching so I wouldn't be afraid that it was an earthquake- I actually fell out of bed once when they launched...lol. (this was back in the mid 60's)
No missile has ever been used as an ICBM IE not for real, the Tiatn was designed as an ICBM, if you go to Vandenberg AFB, there is a time table for these test flights, but they don't state if they are tesing them as ICBM or space lauch vehicles they are just testing them. @ the end of the day it's just a rocket for lauching shit into space both roles are similar it's just an ICBM comes down a lot quicker. If it was lauching a satelite it would be from cape canaveral Air Force Station.
i just stumbled across this. it's crazy b/c i had just moved out to lompoc & was at work on central ave when this took place. everyone kind of stopped what they were doing & went out to watch. i'd never seen a launch before & was surprised at how loud & how much force there is (i don't know why, i just was). it rattled the windows in the building & it was a considerable distance away. awesome stuff though.
I saw a titan IV launch on October 1997.. Thanks Mr Pain, where ever you may be. It was way louder at our location, but it was a cloudy overcast night.
No, sorry kids, no explosives. It's a dead fall to the Kwajalein Lagoon. 45 minutes in flight, then, "smack" into the sand at the landing sight. It's quite a scene to see.
woot, this was the last one that happened sometime last year, right? It makes me all the happier to be in the worlds smallest city...with nukes, of course >:D.
it's an ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile), presumably unarmed with a nuclear warhead lest we would have read about it in the news. I was on it. Oh yeah, it was heading toward iraq.
Uhh Just came across this..you have no idea what you're talking about. Titans were used to launch payloads into space. Mainly satellites. They weren't used for ICBMs, even though the Titan I was build to be an ICBM.
It was going to space, not anywhere on Earth. Dumbasses.
You had a nice view of that launch and pretty good filming too. The best part of your video though is the sound. The sound of the rocket is very clear and powerful. I watched this launch from on base and I sure wish I'd had my camera. Thanks for sharing your footage!

That view is fucking awesome. the sound is nice too. these launches are probably the best thing about Lompoc.

the only interesting thing about lompoc, besides the tiny airport, walmart, starbucks, the 40,000 liquor stores, prison, and cloudy beach

Calm down it's not going to Iraq. It is going to blow up in an atoll in the middle of the pacific.

it's heading toward iraq, you can tell by the direction of the sun (sunlight)
