What's wrong with the comparison is that you are only showing how melody of one song can be played over the other due to a simplistic bass line which is true of MANY songs. Also both bass lines are different, and especially melodies. And in this demo, you don't switch the bass line to ghost busters, but keep Huey one. The problem is unsophisticated listeners pick up on both arrangements having moog synth bass on 8ths, with fuzz guitar and think that qualifies for a "copy", but are wrong.

2, But beyond this, the melodies differ the most, and it's the melody that define the song, not the progressions underneath. So yes, in a short 3 second burst, one can remind you of the other, but they both have different changes, different melodies, not to mention lyrics. The singer in this video isn't as clever as he thinks he is, and from the hideous singing/playing it's also apparent why he never got anywhere.

@joeyraccoon, I agree that in a short burst one sounds just like the other. And it's believable that Ray Parker was inspired by Lewis.. But as soon as I let them play I feel they are pretty different songs. And there a zillion songs with similar progression structures.  So having a sound like another group, isn't the same thing as stealing a song. I think the judge should have been forced to learn something about music. Also dozens of Christmas songs all sound a like as well.
