I only saw this part LIVE on stage at Fords Theater in Washington DC a few years ago. i did not know that they had a print (or a take) in the film. Interesting post and a good one. Thanks
BullMooseFilms, where can I get the Theatrical and Director's Cut? I can only seem to find the director's cut, which is about 20 minutes shorter, and it doesn't include this scene. :(
The director's cut is 20 minutes LONGER than the theatrical cut. The third version of the film is the 1991 Pioneer Laserdisc version, also reissued in 1996 by Columbia on Laserdisc. These versions are unavailable except through a used laserdisc. Or watching the stuff I have put up, which is all the missing footage. The difference between these LD versions and the director's cut is about 5 minutes.
No, this was cut from the Theatrical and Director's Cut. It is taken from the 1991 Pioneer Laserdisc release which restored more footage than the director wished to restore at the time of the DVD release.
I got to play this part twice in local dinner theaters, One of my favorite shows and would do it again but maybe next time as the congressional custodian Andrew McNair
In our production the director moved this part of the song to the moment Lee comes back with the proposal.
He wanted to fill in the long gap between the songs.

This was actually removed from the Director's Cut DVD, but it was on the extended Laserdisc version.
If you check my page here at YouTube there are several more deleted bits from the Laserdisc Posted.
