  • Is it me or did Mike Rowe just went off from searching Dirty Jobs and he is now shooting for Youtube videos?

  • lol this douche is wrong. interlaced vs. progressive has nothing to do with resolution or fps...

  • that's what piss-is me of about movies there in 24 frames why not make them 60

  • @RUMBALman4downunder 24 fps makes you angry but slaughtering the English language doesn't?

  • I just go with the standard 1620p but it costs abt as much as the U.S.'s debt

  • sad that this video is only 360p :(

  • My TV supports 1080p and 1080i, but when it comes to live tv, the only hd channels are sent through 1080i

  • A little humility might've helped mitigate the long-winded, not-so-clear explanation.

  • talking about 1080p and we are watching 360p

  • @freshicedcoke Well, if you want to see that man's face highly defined, I wont ask anymore questions.

  • Well idk I have a 720p tv and when i use my ps3 to watch bluray movies my tv says its in 1080p

  • the most confusing explanation I have heard.

  • your eye can see about 24 frames per second

  • lol my friend is a dumbass he said 1080i was better quality

  • this video is not HD

  • the 360 has maxed out? then what of the ps3? fucking morons look at how many inferior versions of games the PS3 has

Mafia 2 doesn't even have grass on the PS3 version and they had to dumb down other things to get a decent fps. All this rubbish about it having some hidden power is retarded.

  • @GuysSeriously

Games just aren't built from the ground up for the PS3 for the most part.

  • @GuysSeriously That's called "Xbox Syndrome" on PS3. Look at the PS3 exclusives, they look insanely better than the small number of 360 exclusives. But graphics arent everything, gameplay is. music is part of it too.

  • after HD (High Definition) when technology gets more advanced they should put UD (Ultra Definition) after that then MD (Maxium Definition).

  • you cant see the differnce

    from the 2

    SO WHO GIVES A SHIT

  • @lol666 lol, did you even listen to him??? He said 24 f/s is more blur than full HD. I hope I don't have to explain to you why 30f/s is closer to 24f/s than to 60f/s. The conlusion that it can get kinda blurry if there is a lot of fast action.

  • @ptuku i know that

  • Whats best graphic 1080P or 1080I?

  • @frederrasse P!!!

  • @sOuLjAvIcK Thanks, fast answer, lol.

  • If I were to choose between 720p and 1080i, which should I choose?

  • @BrUSomania 720p if you want clear vision, 1080i if.. erm.. you want big but you wont use it for games.

  • @ptuku Yeah, I've grown smarter since the last time I watched this ;)

  • SOMEONE HELP ME! for gaming on a 32" LCD TV do i want 1080p or 1080i???

  • @IronMetalHead150 720 is enough

  • on my ps3 on call of duty it says 60 frames a sec

  • oHH, I was playing mw2 on 1080i but with my sound I use an optical cable for i think 5.1 surrond sound... But when i got a new game it set back to 720 but then it switched to 1080p so i was like whats the diff. between i n p but now i know n that p is better for gamers like me

  • can u help i can get a 50 inc tv 1080i for the same price as a 40 inc 1080p tv what should i buy as i dont want to miss out on full hd but if there is no difference thern 50 would be nice also the 50 is a plasma and the 40 a LCD cheers anyone

  • This actually explained so much to me I finally understand now.

  • For instance you record with camcorder on 1080i if your tv is 1080p it will be upscaled by the tv too 1080p. What he is saying about the framerate is wrong.

1080p = 25 frames in EU and 30frames in US

1080i = 50 frames in EU and 60frames in US

Now on a tv that is 1080p it has 1080 lines Vertically now if you have a 720p signal as input it wil either expand the 720p to 1080p or show 2 black bars under and above the film. So 1 frame has 720 lines every time that is centered on your screen.

  • @Nlight1981

Now on a tv 1080p with a 1080i signal as input. It wil show you 540 lines only like a shutter. so 1 line has input and 1 line doesnt. There for the frame rate is 2ce as fast. so Frame one wil show you all the EVENLY lines and the 2nd will show you all the ODDS.

  • 2160p is the best video format that i've seen

  • 1080i = 1080p in terms of resolution???

  • whats better 1080I or 1080P

  • @LWE112 Like he says, 1080p.

Higher framerate (fps) Frames Per Second

Just think of it that your screen updates 60 times per second instead of 30. Less delay between each frame means smoother, sharper picture.

  • @LWE112 1080p.....But 1080i really has no diffrence, so what ever really

  • and thats with an HDMI

  • I have a 1080p 52" and its always on 1080p on my ps3 and blue rays but with comcast HD its on 1080i. Why??

  • i have a samsung LED 1080p TV and i can tell the diferece from my old 720p tv the 720p is blurrie and not bright and the 1080p is supper clear and i love the samsung blu ray theatre system its 1080p and kicks ass

  • It makes sense. THX !!! :D

  • let me get this stright so 1080i has the same picture as 1080p except 1080p has better framrate?

  • thats what the man says... (makes sense)

  • 1080p is not 60fps ...

  • are you dumb?

  • Okay 720p is greater that 1080i because 1080i is actually 540 lines of info where as 720p is 720 lines of info. Then you get into the ultimate picture 1080p which is 1080 lines of information. But as technology goes I say we will be getting double that in 10 years. TV is turning into computer. How computers are obsolete after 3-6 months because the technology is evergrowing. So for people loving 1080i get 720p you'll be more satisfied

  • sorry, but this guy just doesn't know what he's talking about. 1080i and 1080p are diferent resolutions, period. interlaced and progressive are different.

  • @bandit7498

No they both have 1080 pixels verticaly.

  • woa i just came to see which resolution is better and now i here which is the better one exp. ps3 vs xbox 360 o.O which is wich dudes?

  • i got samsung 1080i, thought it was good till my mate showed off a sony bravia 1080p, i shit my pants

  • lol im getting a used 1080i i really dont car for 1080p vs 1080i aas long as its hd and its a 65" rear projecition mitsubishi

  • um try 80" led toshiba

  • to expensive

  • hahaha

  • He has a vague understanding of what he's talking about.

But you don't get 60 frames a second with 1080p...you get 30. With 1080i, you get 30 frames a second, each consisting of 1/2 of the lines.

  • - no need to diss DJ boy

  • he's not dissing just clarifying. he's right though. he seems to know as much as a comsumer. the DOTS are pixels and with digital displays you are no longer talking about lines. he is smashing digital and analog terms together when there is a distinct difference in how the resolution is defined.

  • @andy16666 I know it is 5 months later, but you have the numbers backwards. A 1080i gives you a frame every 2 seconds because you process the even lines in one second, then the odd lines the next.. They end up calling this a field. So they will advertise 1080i/60 which means 60 fields, not frames, which would make it 1080i/30. 1080p produces all the lines in one pass, so you are capable of 60 frames per second, 1080p/60, because it does not have to take 2 seconds to produce 1 frame.

  • Comment removed

  • @andy16666 I don't understand why they don't film more content in 60fps. Is it about storage? That shouldn't really be a problem in a high budget film.

  • if you (1080i) followers want to really see the difference..

get your self a samsung LED tv!

    the newest tv's out.

    u wont ask anymore questions:)

    1080 p is a big difference.

ive had my share of tv's i wud definately know.

when ur going small in size. of course. go get your self a nice little 720/1080i tv. i wud!

but when ur goin 50 and up.

1080 p is ur best choice.

    no arguements involvedd! :D

  • this guy totally fucked that up 1080i 1080p has absolutly nothing to do with frame rate lol nothing.

  • wtff, ur completely wrong, thats truee!

    its about frame rateee.

idk who is telling u stuff, but he got his stuff righttt

  • i have a 1080i and a 1080p and they look the same at least i can't tell the difference the same with the damn hdmi cables bought a 50 dlls. and a 10 dlls. one they are the same no difference.

  • The difference between 1080i and 1080p has nothing to do with frame rat.e.. You can get a 1080i signal at either 30 or 60 fps, likewise you can get a 1080p signal at 24 or 30 fps. No device can currently handle 60 fps at 1080p to my knowledge, and content of this nature would be scarce at best. With 1080i you get 1080 lines as you said, but only half are on the screen at any time. Essentially 1080i and 1080p are identical to the human eye, except when it comes to motion. Overall 1080p is better.

  • I hate -- absolutely hate -- interlacing. Interlacing is an antiquated technique that was useful in the early days of TV for getting around technology limitations of the time. It's such a tragedy that modern digital TV has interlaced 1080.

Those of you who can't see the difference between 1080i and 1080p probably have a set that does de-interlacing or some other form of post-processing. That helps a lot, but you're still getting an inferior picture to 1080p.

  • agreed

  • I have Comcast HD and change the settings on the cable box to 720p, now all my HD chanels are 720p. Most are broadcasted in 1080i but some are 720p.

720p looks much better then 1080i, but my Blu-ray is 1080p and looks great!

    Interlacing blows.

  • @myteewhytee That's why I only use 1090p. It's much better than the antiquated and inferior 1080p.

  • @TheLAKERSareGodsTeam 1090p? Never heard of it.

  • omfg listen 1080p!!1 is true! HD 1080i is a bit like upscaling 1080i is 720p lol so if u got money 1080p is the best but if u dont buy a 1080i

  • even though on a pc u can get 1920x1200

  • dude ur dumb lol 1080i and 1080p is the same......just one is interlaced and the other is progessive..shit looks the same. full hd my ass....1080 and 720 looks the same in my opinion...

  • they will look the same till you see somthing that takes FULL advantage of 1080

  • got a 22 inch monitor thats 720p which i played my ps3 on and watched my blurays. Went out in a got 37 inch 1080p tv 3 months ago......no difference...1080p is a rip off...blur rays still look the same and my games do. by the way...nothing on cable tv is displayed at 1080 anyway

  • yep i know. i know exactly what you mean, most 1080p movies dont really look better than 720p, and as far as gaming on them most games on the xbox and ps3 are made 720p native and upconverted to 1080, its pritty much a scam unless you use it for what i do the pc. all games on pc are 1080 or above when you select the resolution in the menus and movie wise the only ones iv seen in 1080 that accually look better than 720 are the CG movies (wall-e monsters inc, any computer generated movie)

  • 1080i is only 720 if its on a 720p tv and de-interlaced. thats why alot of 720p tvs say 1080i on them

  • lol with the "omfg"

  • so what is better 4 gameing....p or i

  • p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p pppppppppppppppppppppppPPPPPPPPPPPP P P P P P P P PPPPPPP(p)

  • mad cunt

  • i have a 1080p tv.. i also notice it says 60hz when i press the info button on my controll.. but i never knew if you have 1080i

    it goes down to 30hz

  • I've heard that 1080p has more smoother edges on the textures, and 1080i looks like it has more pixels around the edges.

  • no its actually the exact opposite. 1080p has sharp pixely edges and just looks bad. But 1080i is smooth and looks really good.

  • You got to be kidding. 1080i have similar pixel count as 720p yet 720p dont have artifacting on high motion scenes.

1080p is an absolute winner on quality and if blur is quality for you then just watch rmvb videos instead of h264 ones...

  • Yea, it's more because it comes out clearer do to the refresh rate and 60fps. Makes the experience or smooth and crisper.

  • This guy doesn't even know what he's talking about.

The difference between 1080i and 1080p isn't frame rate (1080i can be rendered at 60 frames per second, if your TV can deinterlace well ofcourse).

Once 1080i is deinterlaced though, you only get 540 lines of resolution (but still keep the 1920 horizontal lines).

    So at any given time, with 1080i your only getting a 1920 X 540 image instead of a 1920 X 1080 image.

  • what do you recommend for me?

    1080i or 1080p

  • Or you planning to get a HDTV or do you already have one?

If you already have an HDTV stick with 1080p obviously.

But if your buying one and you don't want to spend a couple hundred bucks extra. Just stick with a 720p/1080i set.

  • 1080p easyly

  • 1080p

  • gran turismo 5 on 1080p looks amazing on ps3

  • anything looks amasing on ps3 (or 360 which i have =) )

  • Well im thinking of buying a 32 inch TV im wondering will it matter if I get a 1080i and 1080p

Im hooking this newwer TV to my xbox 360 so i can have HD.

Can some one send me a meessage or reply to this about the 1080i and 1080p I

  • Hi.

1080p is TRUE HD quality. If you can, go with that (unless you are buying a small set like a 19 inch or less because you will not see a difference on these).

    I hope this helps :)

  • 1080i is better with most xbox360 games and it's cheaper too :)

  • the resolution is the same ,but the quality is a way different

  • I have a monitor capable of displaying both and I have got to say 1080p is way better there is no shacking involved it just looks brilliant.

  • Coming from a kid there are plenty of games that support 1080p.

  • I had a Sony Bravia 32" but purchased a Sony Bravia 46" for $300 (yep three hundred) a month of use and its amazing!!! haven't got a chance to watch a blue ray yet nevertheless i do believe there is a big difference bewteen the 1080i and the 1080p judging from the 2 TVs I had

  • i have the samsung serie 8 40'' its 1080p and is great

  • i have the 42" LG Scarlet AMAZING!!! 1080p so i love what this guy is talking about hahaha! thanks

  • i have LG SCARLET 37" (37LG60) 1080P but the other good thing about the scarlet its it has 120hz trumotion. awesome for video games.

  • This is bothering me does a higher resolution such as 1080p affect the game , dus it cause more slowdown for the game?

  • it depends on your PC. a higher resolution will cause a smaller fps (frames per second) rate, and that will slowdown the game.

so, basically, if you have an fps lower than 60 with some game, you should probably try playing it in a lower resolution. 'cause no one wants a game that looks pretty but keeps freezing.

  • im using a 37 inch tv and i dont know how wether to use i or p for my xbox 360

  • go to ur settings for video on ur 360 and see....btw make sure ur not just using compsite av cables like the ones that come with the 360 arcade version.

  • can somebody help me choose between 1080i or 1080p because i dont know witch 1 to set my xbox 360 to on my 46'' inch Samsung hdtv

  • 1080p for games, and 1080i for television if you have an HD video box.

  • THNX MAN

  • My tv doesnt support 1080p.

So my choice is between 720p or 1080i , which is the best for xbox 360?

  • 720p for a LCD or plasma, 1080i if it's a CRT.

  • Thank you

  • my projector is 720p LCD native but up scales to 1080i What should I set my B Ray HD DVD & HD Cable box to? Thanx

  • 720p, because the pixels array is 720p. If it's a good projector it'll try to emulate 1080i and display it as 720p. Similar to looking a high res photo on a low res screen.

  • 1080i (Interlaced) is better for Not very fast moving pictures or still pictures , but on things like gaming consoles that doesn't matter because of Hz does it?

  • alright thanks!

  • so what should i play my xbox 360 on? 1080i or 1080p?

  • get a 1080p and you will thank me later!

  • do all widescreen tv's have 1080?

  • The short answer is yes BUT you have 2 choices. 1080i or TRUE HD which is 1080p.

Just one notch down from the top, 1080i produces 1080 horitontal interfaced scan lines.

Regardless of which high-end HD technology you buy, most cable companies are only capable of transmitting using 1080i or 720p.

The only REAL way to see true 1080p quality is by watching a blueray disc (and from what alot of you have said in comments, through some xbox games.

  • oh =P then I think the widescreen tv in my house is 1080i.

because sometimes you can notice if you look really closely... some "artifacts" from the frame passed (or atleast I notice it).

  • you mean the great PS3 that plays Blu-ray and not xbox

  • Well, you can make 1080i in 1080p if both interlaced fields are in sync, known as psf. But you do sacrifice smoothness, because you have 25p or 30p instead of 50i or 60i.

  • XBOX DONT NEED 1080P. 1080p is only for blueray. xbox runs on 720p if you have a playstation 3 ,you should get a 1080p for great blueray. and 1080p games.

  • Not true.. Xbox 360 displays a full 1080p hd picture. also 1080p is not only for bluray..

  • true

  • no it doesnt

  • Look mate i dont know where you get your info from but the Xbox 360 does display a full complete 1080p picture. Have you ever heard of HD DVD This was the technology that Microsoft flowed with. Unfortunately it didnt prevail over Bluray but thats beside my point. HD DVD was full 1080p and would easily display lower resolutions regarding your HDTV type.

  • the xbox 360 cant display true 1080p, it may have an hdmi port now but their hdmi ports are 1.2 and you can only get tru 1080p on hdmi 1.3 ports...besides, the 360 is maxed out already

  • WRONG.

Every single HDMI version can do uncompressed 1080p. The difference is that 1.2 doesn't support the new audio codecs.

And find me a link where it is says "the 360 maxed out!" Because fanboys have been stating that crap since 2006. We are at 2009 (going to 2010) and the X360 is still going strong.

  • i dont have to find you a link, its so damn obvious that its maxed out...its like the xbox360 is a hamburger and the ps3 is an angus, which one would you prefer?....thus saying that the 360 is maxed out, i have one and thats what i think of that piece of shit of mine

  • You can't find me a link, because you have no proof :/

Again, fanboys have said that back in 06. It's 09 and the X360 games get better and better.

The PS3 is just way to overrated when it comes down to performance.

And it's not obvious, especially when X360 games continually advance in graphics. Have you seen screenshots of Forza 3?

  • gt looks better than that ps3 ftw!!

  • @MegaShot419 The xbox 360 has been maxed out since 2006... Yes it is still going strong tho and thats because microsoft is genius at keeping things going strong example windows xp.... Its all about what company has the best online experience when it comes to gaming and thats were the xbox smashes the ps3 but the ps3 has not been maxed out but the first game to take advantage of the consoles hardware is uncharted 2, it almost looked as good as what my $7,000 gaming computer puts out. "almost" :(

  • @garretts228

No it has not been maxed out. How good a game looks depends on the game engine and the software. Alan Wake is comparable to UC2 in graphics (IMO though, it's art style is MUCH better) and there are games like Gears 3 which will raise the bar in graphics. But please don't argue with me over a 11 month old comment. That's just stupid.

  • @MegaShot419 Omg, game developers at e3 said the xbox 360 has been maxed out for years now, but they said there has been alternative ways that they have taken to increases the graphics of what we see and not what we try and look at in detail.

  • @garretts228

Oh really, can you provide me a link to such a statement? I'm sure there would have been an N4G article about it.

  • @MegaShot419 Actually I can, I will send you a message to the link.... Then you can come back and reply saying I was right and you were wrong....

  • @garretts228

I came back, you weren't right. Sorry.

  • @MegaShot419 the xbox has reached its limits

  • @MegaShot419 why call people who own Ps3's fanboys when you're just a xbox fanboy yourself. I've owned both

  • ur wrong

xbox 360 can use 1080p and 1080p isnt only for blueray

xbox 360 dosnt only run on 720p

  • But for some stupid reason game developers like 720p instead of 1080p and 720p is more like standard def for computers.

  • thanks for uploading im getting a 1080p now but if i were to get a 1080i will the interlacing be noticable

  • I have both a 1080p and 1080i plasma HDTV.

There really is a nice improvement in picture quality with the 1080p (especially when watching blu-ray discs because you see the TRUE HD quality!

  • so whats a dvd spit out? if all you do is watch dvds wouldnt you want to match your tv to the dvd output?

  • dvd is just digital, it doesn't matter if the tv is 1080. Now if your planning on getting a bluray player and get rid of your old dvd player, then 1080p is the way to go. If not, then just keep using the tv you got now until you plan on watching HD (which is about a 6 times clearer picture than dvd's).

  • 6x better? you mean 100x better my friend!

i watch the porn on HD and i feel like touching the goods!

  • nyz.

  • You haven't got it quite yet :)

    1080p is usually 30 fps

    1080i is usually 60 fps

This means that although in 1080i you get half the data on the screen at anyone time, you get it twice as fast.

Also cinema 24 fps do not give you a blurry picture but you get a more jittery motion as opposed to the 30 fps smooth look.

    D

  • So i should buy a 1080p instead of 1080i ?

  • Depends, over 42 inches; 1080p is better. want to play action games? 1080p is better (also refresh rate should be higher than 60hz for action games). Low on funds? 1080i might be better for you.

  • well i found out what i wanted to know. ty

  • one thing to consider...

broadcast stations send out 1080i signal. what that means is you are still getting a true 1080 picture. the difference is the frame-rate. they are sending out 30 frames per second.

the ONLY way to get full 60 frames per second in stunning 1080 TODAY is by blu-ray.

60 frames per second means the motion will be clearer (say for sports or high action videos).

    i hope this helps !!

  • I don't think anything has been shot on 60 fps at 1080.
