Alain Passard tied with Komei Nakamura in the Iron Chef World Cup '97 final in Kyoto and then lost to Hiroyuki Sakai in the very last battle in Kitchen Stadium.
Iron Chef is such a legendary show. Seeing the best chefs in the world create dishes never before seen is amazing.
Its funny that in Italy, women are dominate in the kitchen while the men doing the serving. My wife is a chef as well who went to Italy for a gastronomic degree of Firenze...
Japan still has a lot of sexism and racism in the mainstream, so generally women are not socially allowed to partake in art forms like this over there, so seeing them working there is weird for a lot of people on the home team. In Western culture we are all about the future and developing often forgetting the past. In Asian culture tradition is very important.
We forget certain things from the past (Like manners for one), they haven't developed in some things (Like equal rights).
French has always got a reputation of being arrogant. It's the way they've been brought up,as to show they have full confidence in themselves. I'm not suprised to see Monsieur Passard showing an air of superiority. To the more humble asian people they might find him being cocky and rude but to the French, it's really normal I'm afraid. Anyhow, I truly admire the humbleness Mr Sakai has displayed and I think this is what it takes to be a super chef.
Asians in general are humble individually, but they have a superiority complex as a group, but they are very polite and you would not be able to tell easily. This is not an attack on them, this is just an observation I have been told by several people I know who have been and one even lived in Japan. And I am sure as hell not defending the French...
women in the kitchen, i agree with this man

What's so outrageous about having female assistants? We're in the 21st century people.

i hear most women shouldn't make sushi because they have warm hands.
but they probably keep using the same guys as assistants because they are the guys that have been working on the show for like 6 years lol

I'm a huge fan of Sakai but Passard looks cute!
=) Besides it's nice to see that he's been assisted by two female chefs.
But I'm still rooting for Sakai! he's so sweet, humble and funny. =)
