The Aramaic Christians from the Middle East first came to Kerala, India in the third century to escape persecution. Then, throughout many centuries more and more Aramaic Christians started coming to Kerala, India, so that is why they are still in communion with the Syrian Orthodox Church.
The majority of the people that St. Thomas converted to Christianity in India were Jews, who were the only people that understood Aramaic. The disciples went to all the locations where there were Jews to spread the word of Jesus Christ. There were very few Hindu conversions in the early days of Christianity. The Hindus had a caste system, which did not change even if they converted. Hinduism wasn't that big in Kerala, India, the majority of the people were of the Buddhist or Jain faith.
