  • They may get me a rat. :) But the only thing Im afraid of is that it may be from a shop and yeah, problems arise with that. :(

  • @OlegEqualzName if it came from a loving responsible breeder who provides rats for the shop it might be just fine. Ask for more info.

  • wow impressive how long did that take to train him or her

  • @AreYouBoredShow not that long. I have trained other mammals to run similar courses in about 2 weeks. : )

  • Rats are very clever animals and with them can deal with they favourite food. :D

  • how did you make it

  • @gamesaver1000 see the comment 4th down. A staff member made it. I am not really sure how she did it : (

  • Wow she really did, guess i,ll just have to perfect my homemade course. Love the work you are doing though with your rats, not many people i know seem to be bothered to train, i only meet these poeple online lol. oh well thanks anyway.

  • @Bigalbarakis87 We just need to help people see how much fun it is and hopefully it will catch on : )

  • Curious, i have a rats of my own who i train as well, but all my courses etc are all home made, where abouts did you get your obstacle course as it looks very nice.

  • @Bigalbarakis87 This training was done at a zoo where I was the training consultant. One of the staff members did it. She did a great job!

  • This is so great!

  • RATS ARE AWESOME! And people wonder why I breed and raise them... please..

  • hahaha awesome , she has to do it a hundred times to get her bowl filled with food :D

  • Hi, I have two rats myself, so how do

you teach ur rat how to do that!!!!?!!!!

  • @Nala5106 We started with target training. Then trained each element seperately. Then back chained them together. And of course knowing there is a nice treat waiting for them at the end helps : )

  • awwww she's so smart! good girl!

  • wowowowowow! your rat is amazing...how did you get her to actually do any of that so quickly?? ;)

    nice!! :)

  • @rodentzrock We started with target training. Then trained each element seperately. Then back chained them together. And of course knowing there is a nice treat waiting for them at the end helps : )

  • I want to teach my girls agility. They need to learn to do something other than sit on my shoulder and lick my face. :)

  • this is AWSOME!

  • Oh my goodness, she's so quick! Best rat agility video I've seen. You've certainly inspired me to work on training mine!

  • cool rat..

  • Thats so cool!

  • can i keep my rat on a aquarium for now? (it has a wire hood) then in like 2 weeks im getting a cage

  • @mcrfankifo you can temporarily, but I would recommend something with more air flow for the future.

  • How interesting. no sarcasm

  • did u train her for this agility course?

  • @Blakeonacoaster I was the animal training consultant on this training. I worked with the staff at the zoo to show them how to train the rats and other animals in their education department

  • So strong your rat ! Waw

  • that was so cool i love how confident u were like a dog trainer keep it up ;P

  • :O superspeed!

    rats are ´smart!

  • that is awesome!!!

  • all that runing for one peice of food

  • @baken101 we used back chaining to train the behavior : ) That is a great way to train animals to do a series of behaviors before getting reinforced.

  • Excellent! S/he looks like my two rats <3

  • cute and cool

  • That was awesome! I hope to get a couple rats when I have my own room again!

  • Fantastic! Did you make the agility obstacles yourselves? They are beautiful!

  • one of the rat trainers made them based off of some ideas from a rat training website

  • Oh I see......I made one hamster agility maze for my hamsters using cardboard but they were not as beautiful as these obstacles!

  • @GoodBirdInc Oh I see.....I made a hamster agility maze for my hamsters from cupboards but it was not as beautiful as yours and it spoils easily. Anyway, well done training your rat! He is so clever!

  • how did u teach him/her to tightwalk

  • Train it backwards, near the end of the behavior and then gradually release the rat from greater distances. AKA backchaining.

  • omg that is the cutest rat ever! I wish I could have pet rats again but i recently got a mini fox terrier... not a good mix

  • WOW! Nice and looks fun for the ratty :)

  • Wow. Congratulations on a very well-trained rattie.

Maybe they are too mature for it?

  • WOW thats amazing! Could you make how to videos and show how to do this

  • Amazing rat!

  • lol so fast!coool!

  • cool

  • Your rat is so cute!!!! Great video!

  • How did you teach your rat to jump from one block to the other? Rusty and Blooper would just get off one block and walk to the other, lol.

  • your rat is smart!

  • How cool is that ??!!!! I wanna learn how to do that with mine!!!!

  • AWW! That's why I want a rat. I wanna be kind of a mix between writer and a zoologist, but my mom hates rats..One time I brought one homw and she through it out into the cold snow...The only thing she lets me have it hamsters...Like Iv'e had mice and all that and newts, turtles, sish, snakes, cats, lizards...blah blah But rats r cuter

  • She threw it out into the snow? And you didn't go out and rescue it? That's like... animal abuse.

  • I got/had 2 one died of a tuma and now other got 1 and is very hard to train em if u dont do it at first week/months they dont do anything after just sit in bed all day

  • Rats are also more work to own than hamsters, mice, newts, turtles, snakes, and lizards. They're a bit harder than cats too because you don't have to "cat-proof" rooms and such. Not smart to get them just because they "r cuter" unless you are sure you have the money, brains, time, and tools to take care of them :P

  • That's true and very good advice. :)

  • I never seen a trained rat before - interesting

  • home depot

  • Thank you!

  • Where did you get those tubes?

  • that is sooo cool!!

  • Gosh... rat is smart. My rat dont lol

  • these rats are part of an education program at a zoo

  • Is this a pet or part of a scientific study?

  • wow...

  • cool

  • That rat has been very well trained. I know what a well trained rat looks like. Nice job : )

  • amazing! I have started training one of my rats and I would love to teach her to do agility courses!

  • that some cool shit right there!!!!!!!

we we we we we we we we we we we we we we we

  • I train my guinea pigs and hamsters to do tricks too! watch my videos! =)

  • im getting a rat soon and i wanna know how you do that, so how do you teach them that? please reply

  • positive reinforcement training. train each element seperately, then chain them together.

  • wow thanx very much! =)

  • I hope not only ONE... ?

  • there were 4 girls that lived together that were trained for the behavior.

  • Oh no, my comment was meant for fayesno10! It's alright! :)

  • Wauw this is so cool.. wish i could do that with my rats

  • First thing out of my mouth: Oh my god that's so CUTE!

My next set of rats, I'm planning on teaching them tricks. An agility course is a good idea!

  • No wonder they're so useful at War. :D

She knows when she has turned the wrong way.

Sorry if it's a boy, hard to tell on the vid

  • your rat is smart i wish mine would do that

  • you have to take the time to train them, she doesn't just do it naturally

  • all rats are capable of that. you just need the patience to train them.

  • wow!! big small rat ;)

  • that is awesome! I should train my rat to do that ha ha

  • omg

    thats awesome

  • omg that was so cool

  • Aww thats so cute. Id love to see my rats do that.

  • Awesome job by the handler and congrats to the rat for his super amazing rodent-speed!

  • You have to make a video showing how to train your rat like that. That was amazing! Five stars!

  • woow id love to b the rat!

  • lol, nice vid

  • Bravo, bravo! Well done, superb training there :)

  • wow! :)

  • that was sweat how can i do that with my rats

  • positive reinforcement training.

  • How old was your rat when you strated teching it agility? How long did it take your rat to learn?

  • We started not long after they were weaned with handling and then trained the behaviors with positive reinforcement. it took about 2 months to learn the entire course.

  • Wow I love this video! I want to teach my rat this someday!

  • OMG! Thats great!

  • Wow that was sooo cool!

  • did you bouy your equipment? where from?

  • we actually made the pieces based on an example from a UK website

  • i want my rat to do that

  • How do you train them to do that?

  • Wow! Smart rat!!!

  • WOW! look at her go! did you make the course or buy it? Very lovely video, thanks for sharing!

  • Hi,

I also train rats and rabbits for agility...love your video. Come visit us at The Agile Rat It is so good to see your videos....upload more!! LOL

  • Wow!!

    how ace is th@!

  • very cool

  • Now I wana rat!

  • that is so awsome!!! my sister has rats, but they're hecka dumb...she gonna kill me 4 tat...

  • Tell us more about the rat! Is it a boy or girl?

  • There are four girls trained to do this behavior......although I do not doubt for a second a boy could learn to do this as well. We started with just weaned rats and acllimated them to handling. The rest is straight forward positive reinforcement training to train each element before chaining the behaviors together.

  • I trained my gerbil to do it in just 2 hours!

  • niiiice

  • wow

  • where do you get the agility things from???

  • We actually made them ourselves. There is a website from the UK that has pictures of the props on line and we copied those.

  • oh, was it called Evras rat page or something???

  • wow!

I haven't see or heard anything about rat agility.

just dog agility. I have a dog and I practise whit him agility.

    But that was so cool!

  • Great rat! :)

  • my rat doesnt take treats as rewards. Only cuddles lol.

  • see the comment below for ways to make treats have more value if you are interested. My personal rats loooooove thawed peas.

  • That's wonderful! Really nice course set up, too.

  • aww! that is so cute! i wish i had done that with my Inky, we had to put her to sleep. *sob sob*

  • thats amazing!

  • How long did it take you to teach your rats these agility courses?

    And how old are they?

Also, what do you use as a food reward?

  • The rats were under a year old when we started with them. It took a few months to train the entire sequence, but that was in part because of the training schedule (sessions where spread out as opposed to daily)They were fed a base diet of lab blocks and fruits and vegies and some seed. We just pulled the preferred items from the diet and used them for training on the days we trained.

  • I believe ALL animals can learn to do things with positive reinforcement traning :)

  • Rats are so cool. Glad we have ours :D See not only marine life, dogs and some birds can leanr training, even what MOST people dem as stinky, gross, filthy (when these are all false) to the rats, rats are SO intelligent!

  • wow thats amazing im getting 2 female rats pretty soon how did you train them 2 do this? did you build the course?

  • positive reinforcement training : ) The course was modeled after dog agility and there is a UK rat website that has nice photos of each element. One of the training team staff built the course.

  • Wow... I'm impressed!

  • Why is it that not a lot of people train their buck? Though not as hyper as females, they do good.

  • My rat does agility also!! urs a girl or boy? My rat is a boy xD

  • we have four girls trained for this behavior

  • Very good! Rats are so intelligent.

  • Love it!

  • wow thats amazing !how did you train him/her to do that?

  • hehe excellent my ratties refuse to do agility ^^

  • positive reinforcement enforced with treats :D
