  • I'll buy it!!!

  • The computer works on DC so why not just get a DC inverter and she would work a lot less harder. Also the light needs to be LED the use far less energy.

  • nice ass :)

  • obesity is the result of NO BRAIN USE!

that's what those sons of bitches from mcdonalds count on in order to make BILLIONS...

  • you have made that all wrong! people dont want to pedal a big wheel between them and there laptop! just get the original laptop charger and simply plug it in to the wall socket! and there you have it you have saved a lot of energy, which you can put to better use like having sex with your wife at the end of the day! the longer you sit in front of your laptop the more energy you will save! which you could then use on somthing more usefull like........ having sex with your wife, after dinner

  • u funny, we are not going to die, cs we dont have technology, u funny, didnt die the aztecs, ppl in amazone, or the australians, well, just unblock your brain and you will not longer more need technology, plis tcare, cya, free your mind,

  • Egger...Mike's little BITCH!

  • this is kinda like the idea i have for a eco friendly car that powers itself while it drives

  • It would be even better if the bicycle wheel was replaced by a flywheel..

  • cool suff

  • Innovate or die eh?.......

Great line to gather interest. I am afraid of death... teach me how to be oh great wise one!

    Warning.............

    (HUGE SARCASM INTENDED)

  • Energy is not free but oil from the ground spurts out practically free (in the old days). But oil was created in a certain geologic time and took millions of years capturing energy from the sun (you'll have to think about that one). Now selling a gallon of gas even at $5 is under-priced when that gallon can haul you 22 miles including some friends and your stuff in the trunk - could you pay Erin $5 to pedal you and your friends and your stuff 22 miles? You can see that she will might slap you.

  • I think the cops that interrogate thieve and violent criminals should use this type of innovation.?

Put a high voltage coil to induce an awful shock to the subject if they don't peddel and use the bright fluctuating desk lamp to hypnotize them so they cant lie saving tax payers money and cops can spend more time at the doughnut shop spending there hard earned money putting back into the economy..?

  • Comment removed

  • Energy is not free and RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH !

  • What folly. "If we don't innovate we're gonna die".

Yah, you know what?? We're all gonna die someday anyway.

beyond that, just how exactly is a pedal powered generator innovative???

  • somebody: "hey! do you want one?"

    me: "no, thanks anyway."

  • Useful when zombies attack

  • Sorry Sport, but that is not innovation... that is some grade school level bullshit that no one will ever buy or enjoy. Get fucking real man. Real innovation would be affordable solar panel kits to power peoples homes.

  • BUT that's not a new idea! Before about 4 years I'd created a LOWRACER HYBRID speedbike and that rocks.....

  • Let's get inmates out of their cages and into the gym filled with these pedal powered generators. Instead of sentencing criminals to 1, 2, 3+ year sentences, we could sentence them to how many kilowatts they've generated. The faster you generate your required kilowatts, the quicker you get out of prison. We can turn prisons into human powered utility companies and turn criminals into world class competitors against the French and Italians in the Tour de France. Turn criminals into Olympians!

  • @Jdlifsey Or we could just execute them with $2 bullets and save tax payers billions by not giving them better teeth, nutrition, health and educations than you an I have.

  • @rednoseroxy

Execute criminals that are serving less than 3 year sentences?

I'm all for executing any criminals with life or death sentences but less than 3 year sentences?

  • @Jdlifsey Yeah fuck it, why not? We can agree you gotta be a pretty big piece of shit to find yourself in prison anyway right? Kill em all. Let God sort em out. We can give non violent and marijuana related offenders a break. But the repeat thieves and violent ones we can give the soft point .308 slugs. instead of building coffins we can have mass graves. On top of that, we can Pay-Per-View the executions and raise money for children's music and art classes nationwide.

  • @Jdlifsey Uh, that's called slavery..... When the state profits from putting people in prison - somehow, more and more people "need" to be locked up. How about we have the convicts build solar farms in our deserts?

  • Really stupid shit!

  • Another useless, impractical, stupid idea straight out of greenie-weenie unicorn-ism.

It's already been done by many people.

"If we don't work hard to conserve energy we're gonna lose it"????

"If we don't innovate we're gonna die"????

  • get a electric bike !!

  • How do you type?

  • i'd rather power my bike on sunflower oil

  • Why the wheel and tire? Just chain-drive the generator. This type of friction-drive wastes LOTS of energy. If you are using the wheel for a flywheel, fine... but you can still chain-drive the generator.

  • Why convert the generated DC power to AC power just so that the computer's power cable can convert it back to DC power?

  • @darraughbj absolutely true, you'd probably save 20% or more in losses at the inverter.

  • I could see using something like this if you have a bank of battery's. Combine this with solar power and they could keep a pretty good charge.

  • AC to DC conversion wastes more than it makes...

  • Very nice video, perfect explanation: energy is not easy!

  • Do you want to see THE WORLD'S SIMPLEST TRANSMISSION for Bicycle?

Watch: UNIQUE BIKE CRANK ( 2- SPEED)

  • Exercise+Work wow you can get them both done at once that is fuckin awesome I want this thing!!!!! I'd be sooo much thinner if I worked out when I was online.

  • check mine out this is a good idea. you appreciate load.

  • extremely stupid LMAO

  • If we don't innovate, we're gonna die - cos we can't get on the internet. funny shit.

  • I'd ad a big n heavy fly weal

  • I appreciate the effort, its a cool idea, but lets face it man, no one's going to peddle for 3 hours while doing work/homework.

plus from the looks of it its very uncomfortable.

overall cool idea but not very feasible (sustainable)

  • what is the big deal doesn't everyone die? Last time i checked they did

  • lol, what's the point then, let's all just kill ourselves

  • @iraqifreak some people do.....

  • This might not be the easiest ways of generating renewable electricity, but I can see a big source of it: exercise gyms. If I were to set up a gym, I'd call it "The Power Plant" and let people use the bikes free - the income would come from the power company!

  • you'r an idiot

  • Really?? Someone smoked a little to much while watching cartoons..... I've seen this done in different programs since I was a kid. I never thought someone would be smart enough to make it work and dumb enough to think it's A good idea.

  • I see nothing NEW here, its not HIS idea. Although, his setup is a lot nicer looking than most I have seen over the years so he gets a 4 from me. 8-]

  • yeah... also why would he convert the dc to ac just to convert it to dc again. It might be nicer looking but not very efficient.

  • what? we are going to die.... oh no!

no one ever told me i was going to die!

  • innovative?

I have a little tiny generator that runs the lights on my bike, it was made in the late 60's.

  • Oh, come on.... I saw lance Armstrong power an entire office building w/peddle power. One Laptop?? Big whoopie.

  • "If we don't innovate, we're gonna die!"

  • Why use a bicycle wheel when it will have increased air resistance over a direct drive to an alternator?

  • what if you wrapped copper wire around your penis and then put magnets in a glove so that when you play with yourself you can power your ipod, or bathroom light, or what have you...

  • u r a funny guy !!!

  • hahahahahaah

  • what so funny lol

  • @particlesofenergy best ever comment I've come across on youtube ever and I've been reading them for more than 4 years.

  • @particlesofenergy oh man,that was great,i laughed till i cried....exactaly what i was thinkin....man that was funny

  • @particlesofenergy LMAO!!! xD

  • if you use that ...you will get so tired and die....lol

  • I like the concept, but maybe one of those lay down bikes that you see in boulder,co. Tell us how easy and wonderful it is.

Also the battery is so small, could you use a large battery that you pedal for ten minutes and then get like 30 minutes on the computer so you can switch back and forth making it more useable between pedaling when reading but it stores enough juice to stop to type?? Just some thoughts.

  • that method is far too inefficient. why go through the ac plug when you can bypass the inverter and directly power the laptop with the dc

  • How many hours of pedalling would I have to do in order to recoup the cost of this item through saving electricity?

  • Why even waste all that extra energy converting it to AC when laptops are DC powered? On top of that I don't really see this idea taking off a human has to work pretty hard to generate 50w-100w; did anyone notice that they never showed the laptop screen and the lamp was flickering with every pedal pump? What some people will eventually do if given one is go outside and charge the battery on their car or something.

  • @Treetale

I read on another site that it would take 10 hours per day for a week pedaling to recharge a plug in hybrid.

  • I WANT ONE!!!

  • its made by specialized they want $800 for a bike can u amagan that for that

  • It looks good ,but most people will stop after about ten minuts as the body is not designed for continuous exsertion; also a reduction gear so that you can have a more even output from the generator.

  • except she cant take her hands off to actually use the computer

  • i think we have things called wind genrators and solar panels. why go to this after we built that?

  • Egger could not design his way out of a paper bag.

  • ever try to type while pedaling? not as easy as she makes it look, besides i like my computer keyboard sweat free.

Not very ergonomic MAY I SUGGEST a higher centered keyboard with elbow rests? and a ball instead of a mouse.

good idea, not that great of implementation.

  • I just plug my laptop into a wall socket..try it...lot easier than your machine

  • KingNast....Yes, of course you're correct. The human race has a remarkable ability to innovate. And I'm finding that youtube is a great way to share/exchange information, techniques, how to do things. Example: I just built a UHF television antenna from a youtube demonstration video.

  • I'm writing a song about my Ural 4320 11ltr Diesel. It's got an integral generator, so no pedalling for auxiliary power. It smokes like a bastard but it sounds great when I gun it down to Glasgow, though

it's a bugger to find a big enough parking space in the town. I've not posted the song yet. Got a bit of fine tuning to do first.

Recently got a Ural 4320 based rocket launcher system Hail BM-21. Actually handles better than the standard model!

  • its not easy, ha,he said it him selve but it looks good

  • as if work isnt shit enough

  • Innovate or die? Are they suggesting that there's really a choice? I think rational people understand that we're all going to die someday, whether we sit on our asses or whether we cure cancer. Death and taxes . . . but you can die without paying your taxes. However, paying your taxes won't keep you from dying.

  • er, he's talking about the human race.

  • Cool machine! Thanks for the effort!

  • a good innovation but connecting the generator to a turbine on the roof may be better

  • "its not easy is it?" Robert says.

Considering he's got all the ergonomics completely wrong!

Instead of the handle bars, why didn't he let the user rest there forearms on the computer desk..Then at least they could 'use' the computer as well

  • Totally agree about the ergonomics.... A recumbent bicycle position would make more sense as you don't have to use your hands or upper body as much to keep your balance - therefore allowing you to actually type and not be so damn far back from the screen. And you will be in a more upright position to ensure correct back posture for computer usage.

  • yeah, and he sais shes a motor and she's making dc current its really ac current thats the generator is making and the invertor converts ac to dc not ac to dc, what a load of shit

  • America's high obesity rate isn't a health epidemic, its a strategic energy reserve.

  • @ikeusa Brilliant!

  • Shite

  • im a guy i cant multi task :D

  • I couldn't help but notice that she was so busy trying to generate enough power to feed her laptop and light that she had no time/ energy or free hands left over to actualy use it.

Inovate yeah, but use your heads whilst your inovating. I once invented a solar powered torch.. THEN NOTICED THAT THE SUN WAS NEVER OUT WHEN I NEEDED TO USE IT!, doh

    :)

  • Think I prefer to die. What about all the old folk who work in offices. Whoes gona pay the the medical bills? And As your vid shows you can't work and ride. Why not just put a turbine on the roof while you go and die.

  • i think you were suppose to think outside of the box too, not just inside it.

  • laptops use a lithium dc battery. so if your using an automobile alternator that is already producing dc power, why still invert that to ac? why not put a dc voltage regulator instead so that it'll charge the lithium battery directly.

Anyway, cool idea.Nice thinking, I got another idea of usage for your machine concept. Thanks also.

  • ohhhh no my legs are hurting me just watching this, i remember all those 200 km /day training.i think it´s easyer "laptop into the wall" and no pain.or just buy a rat and with some extasy the rat will do the job.

  • lmao..rats and extacy..why didnt i think of that

  • pfft, this is my idea, I came up with it years ago. I'm just not good at electronics so I didn't build it. PFFT.

  • I agree!, though someone gave you a negative rating...lol....i've had this idea all my life, then they made the winding flash light. argh!

  • is it possible that crashing your bike/ pedals is crahing your laptop system too? anything much or less can damage your appliance(s) but this is a good idea..

  • If you used the DC directly to power the laptop (via a voltage regulator) instead of using an inverter, you would save around 60% of your pedal power - energy is lost in converting DC to AC and back again!

  • I imagine millions of millions of this bikes and

the world population must try every day on gym, parks, offices and all the goverments can install.

Hey Buch, Lula, Chaves, you need see this!!!

  • yeah except there isn't that much of an electricity crisis so who cares.. at least where I live near niagra falls.. instead of biking in place like a moron I sit comfortably next to the falls and watch you retards invent nothing so you can feel good about yourselfs..

  • I think you leave angry comments so you can feel better about yourself. Taking a step up on someone else. But it couldn't mean less to me, I just wanted to piss you off.

  • why? what emotion compels you to piss me off, lets discover

  • It just seemed like it would be easy. The real question, though, is why do you seem so angry and easily provoked?

  • Yeah I was thinking one day at work, how can I get a cow to skateboard on it's head whilst it's giving birth to another cow, which is also skateboarding on its head, I have come up with this. FAG

  • Using a human to generate electriciy is a cartoonish case study in entropy. It takes a calorie of fossil fuel to make a calorie of food. Using a human, after all the efficiency multiplications between between the well or mine and the laptop has got to be less than a percent. Just plug the damn thing in the wall to minimize your carbon footprint.

If I were evil, I'd get into this kind of marketing right now.

  • Yes 1 joule is equal to 1 joule at the end of the day, the question is how are we using it? Back in the primitive days of humans (the cavemen), we could afford to eat more due to our lifestyle of hunting and roaming. Now that were suburbanites (for the most part), we don't need all that extra energy (yet we still eat yourself to fatness). What are we to do with all that extra energy? USE IT! By using this bike, the fat gets converted to Kinetic energy. Its better than burning more coal.

  • The answer then is, stop stuffing our faces.

The efficiency of this device is roughly .7 (battery r/t) * .25 (alternator)*.9 (friction drive est) * .15 (human), roughly 2pct. Compare that with going directly to fossil fuel at a 30pct elec plant and a 70pct line loss and you have a 9pct efficiency. This product increases your carbon footprint by at about a factor of 4. Sadly, it is better to plug your laptop into the wall (and stop overeating)

  • Still it's better than just going to the gym and have all that energy go to waste.

Add a flywheel and you won't have to pedal all the time.

  • I knew it was invented!

I was on leolaporte stickam chat while they

    showed off a blow power l.e.d. ......

I said they should come up wtih a bike that charges batteries for a laptop or mobile phone

and they get the benefits of exercise aswell!

  • I'm pretty sure voltage sags can damage computers...? That is unless you stay pedaling at the same speeds and turn off the computer the moment you stop pedaling.

  • I am ...phew...sending you this ...pwarr...comment on...you tube to say that....hang on need a bit more speed...[pedals harder]...need to take a rest...I feel quite dizzy. [Pedal REAL hard]

Anyway...where was I? Oh yes...opps hang on a minute ...losing power...[Pedal Mania!!!] ..oh Im too tied to leave a comment.

  • damn! you will need to pedle hard to produce the odd terawatt hour, that the average country needs. or build things that only require 1/1000th of the power but its still a few Gigawatts.

  • It was so happy until he mentioned something about death. :o

  • The key factor is causing Global warming is there are too many people on the Earth. Why? Because of all religions, that deny women the Right to an abortion. What country was the first to provide safe, legal abortions to all its women: China. They one child per family was the most advanced Green solution in the world. Mao was the first environmentalist. Think about what I say. Do not just dismiss it, because you have been taught to be anti-China. Innovate or die.

  • dont get pregnant in the first place, use a condom.

  • it would have been cool, if he would have just used an ALTERNATOR!!! wtf? he basically just wasted energy...i hope he dies for not realizing this lol

  • My sister worked with this moron back in the 90's. He stole everyone's shit and took all the credit. Why does Specialized keep this dipshit on the payroll? Because he is so far up the boss's ass!!

  • I don't wanna "innovate" I want to hook up enough solar cells to = the wattage necessary couple with a deep cycle battery...and a backup generator....and an UPS. Don't want to lose my saved game.

  • Did he say google suck?

  • Errr.... new idea?

  • I saw a video like this 8 years ago. wtf is innovative about it? Honestly it makes NO FREAKING SENSE to use a TIRE and a Plastic wheel to get centrifugal force from pedaling. Yeah it works but it wears out in no time flat, then you must replace tires/plastic wheel regularly. This was basically nothing new and very far from innovation. Its a bike/generator like any before. I applaud the effort and unfortunately give this a D+. Ill expect more innovation and less half-assed-ness next time.

  • jeez dude, lighten up, their heart's are in the right place, while your head's up the oil industry's ass

  • And for the price of that Delco alternator , I could run the laptop for many years . I give it an F for Fuckin' retarded

  • Well thats good people agree to the absurdity of this device, Im sure its only around $1500.oo also. If its innovate or die we damn sure know what ole Robert is going to do. Just goes to show you how far removed from reality a pompous ass can be.

  • great comment AAA

  • dude i think its a metal wheel

i thinlk it just has been painted green on the side

  • Kinga you are missing the point entirely. When you have friction (tire+anything) you have heat, heat is energy that is lost, it also wears excessively on parts. A belt or chain driven system loses almost no energy and has already been done. Then add a giant and very heavy flywheel instead of a freaking regular aired up tire and you get residual energy. The real point is its all been done before, I had a much better system then his where I could run a large television with much less effort.

  • yeah i know, i was trying to design something earlier of perpetual motion but all i have achieved is coming up with a way to store rotational energy for a long time without losing any. its actualy quite simple but too complicated for youtube lol that and it has nothing to do with this post but yes i agree in belt drivebeing superior

  • Sweet well at least we all agree this pompous ass from "specialized" ($4000 bikes) is confused and wasting his time hehe. It now seems obvious to me why large corporations are so confused and out of touch. It also occurs to me that it will be the common man who will make vast improvements and innovations in this field and not confused and completely out of touch companies with an idea but no common sense or actual use of the product. He doesnt even pedal his own shitty machine lol!

  • well said mate, well said

  • "too complicated for youtube"..Is this a generalisation saying the you tube viewers are of low technical ability, pleasse dont tar us all with the same brush, otherwise you might as well say the internet is just for porn, and all football suporters are hooligans or even Woman shouldnt be given cars...

  • oh, my oppologies, i never ment it in that context as i was intending to pas it across as there just isnt enough space to write about some of these theorys here in youtube.

as there is just 500 characters to write with.

here i rephrase it in new words, its actually quite simple but still far to complicated for a 500 character limit.

    there, done.

i'm not taring anyone with anything

  • i am sorry,i see what you mean now, maybe it is I that should not jump to conclusions.

  • no worries mate

  • The girl needs a boob job! Where did they get their clothes- Goodwill?

    Oh, dumb idea.

  • Hahah Energy is not free, what an ignorant dumbass. Start studying Nikola Tesla knob!

    Free Energy is REAL!

  • how do you use the keyboard if you cant let go the handle?

  • what happens when you get tired?

  • This person shows his mind at work not an answer to the oil crisis..try using your mind too..if ya still got one.JC

  • craaaaaap better with solar cells

  • Robert your village called for you- they want there their idiot to come home.

  • "If we don't innovate, we die". What a ass.

Don't you think if this was such a great idea, that gyms across the USA would of installed these along time ago. The company you work for needs a new creative director! My 12 year old son could come up with better creativity.

  • How unnecessarily rude that was

  • Right

  • Oh, dear god! Are you in sales or finance or something? Coz lord knows, your no engineer! As said below, no fly-wheel, and covereting electricity DC to AC to DC! If you even want to go 5% feasable with this idea, use a solid plate wheel rather than spoked, use direct DC a capasitor to try and smooth the current (ie watch how the lamp flashes as the pedal goes round irregularly) or instead of gearing up then down onto the generator, try attaching it directly to the axel with a flywheel.

  • Why would you suggest using a solid plate wheel?? Greater weight==momentum??

  • no, they probably opted for spokes because they couldn't justify the weight & cost of a flywheel for marginally better performance. also if they didnt convert to AC they'd need a variable DC output for different laptops, not to mention customised laptop power cables, whereas with AC you can just connect via a standard power socket and the laptop's transformer converts it to the required DC voltage. finally, why wouldn't you gear down?! 1 wheel turn = 10s of generator turns! are YOU in sales?

  • not a great salesman, are u. "not easy huh". that's what u said. U think people are going to buy this thing if it's hard? I know for sure I don't want to have an hour of hard work out time for one hour of internet time. duh...

  • you waste all that energy converting DC to AC when the Computer uses DC ANYWAY...

    not too bright are we??

  • que creacion tanmas patettica

  • ???creative director??? where is the flywheel ? i guess u skipped the industrial revolution along with 2000 years old waterwheels and potterywheels

  • for every adult in a house there should be one of these.even if you could fold it up.back in 2006 we went without juice for a few days.with a generator like this we could have at the very least, powered our (gas but glow plug lit) furnace and hot water tank.oh yeah plus the vent. The thing is, you need a battery pack to store the energy.I wonder if you could keep a fridge running?

  • She needs a boob job!

  • you need a new brain

  • I choose DEATH!

  • someone should find an innovative way to help u with that choice ;)

  • hahahah this guy seriously is fuked up i mean i dont say fuked up a lot but his totally fuked up

  • That would keep all those WOW players in shape (-;

  • i like that idea

  • what was the type of generator?? PMG?

  • Great to see my Specialized partners in crime at the TOC. Your right, this video is FN horrible! Remember the days- if Mr. Egger wasn't "working" on some stolen idea, he was doing his personal stuff on Mike's dime. Anyway, ride sick my friends!

  • posture needs some work, major back issues if you're leaning forward withouth support while needing to use both hands on your work. Bring the work surface up closer.

Better yet, create a bike dyno you can park and lock your bike into to generate electricity and get exercise while you work.

    3-in-1 multitasking.

  • Could it power an electric bike?

It was Lister and Cat frying an egg with a bike powered hairdryer

  • people are to fat now a days so i would vote for that if for some reason we had to vote lol

  • pretty good as a back up to get some power to heat some water or other survival needs. I did see this concept on Red Dwarf years ago. Liester and rimmer were using it ;P

  • Now thats a good idea! I think we could get a positive net current in conjunction with a battery for a home theatre setup someday with a similar gadget.

  • i'm not against SUV's, but i think they can sometimes be used for the wrong things. It would look really stupid to see an old granny in her 70's using one for shopping.. she bought a couple of tins of ham, and veg.. yep thats what i saw the other day lol

  • To conserve fuel why not ration it? like 5 litres of fuel a day maximum. whats wrong with that? most SMALL cars can obtain 45-50 MPG, and if you travel more than 50 miles to and from work, then i guess thats pretty stupid, i mean come on, theres no nearer jobs?

  • i think society is lazier than ever now. Everybody has got sooo much to do...soo little time... The only reason people run around like headless chickens is because of todays society, its not our human nature, to be working nights, or to expect to work 14 hours a day etc.

  • It would sure keep you in shape. Instead of a mouse you'd wanna use voice command. I love your idea.
