freddie hubbard is the best "3rd best" instrumentalist of all time. or the best. sometimes. some days i think i would trade all the miles and louis armstrong for this one solo. no. glad i don't have to make the choice. isn't rating stupid?
@boyter0roger i only saw freddie hubbard live once, in SF at an open air concert. i can't remember how he sounded, but his attitude toward the gig ( as big name headliner with a thrown together group) was pretty blasé. andy narrell was on steel drums and he introduced him as "on steel drums......????....somebody....what's your name boy ...oh ..Andy ....Na.?? Nahrel....he supposed to be good they tell me."
First of all to dislike this groove, you must be a numskull with no brain or understanding....Besides the timing on this piece is so damn funky that you have to think about how and when to bop your head because if you don't get it right you will lose touch....
Cantaloop was sampled from Cantaloupe Island by the Canadian group Us 3, a sort of House/Acid Jazz with vocal interjections group. They took their name from an album by the Horace Parlan Trio on Blue Note. If you want all your troubles and tensions to go away, play the Trio version of Wadin'. An equally good tune is John Coltrane's Equinox; McCoy Tyner who is the tastiest pianist, the Great Elvin Jones and Steve Davis on bass. Recorded in 1960, about 3 years before the other two
Overlooked by who SONAA9811? I will say it once again.this is the hippest, funkiest and cooliest musician on the face of the earth....This cat can play classical, slave hymns, ragtime, blues and classic jazz through fusion, rock,r&b,funk and hip-hop all at the same time with three notes and samples in his mind that cant be catagorized. This my friends is the baddest MF on the face of the earth.
Is there a song that is similar to this but its faster. I know there is. I just can't place who does it? Sometimes they have that music in modern day comedys when the open the movie.
Well done and nice one Rovingeye2 for posting this modern jazz classic. Herbie Hancock is the chameleon of music. A true living maestro in every sense of the word.
Wow! How cool is this video! I've heard this particular song on the radio and I had forgotten it was Herbie Hancock! Thank you so much for this groovy jazzy tune! :)

I saw Freddie on an off night in the 70's, mostly fluegelhorn, and pretty dull, but when he's on, he's there 100%.

You may be thinking of a group called Us3 who modernized it about 20 years ago.

this is great music! - i love the way it follows a quasi 12 bar famework but departs from it into cool cool jazz :)
