does anyone know more albums like this? i've been hearing thrash for a long time, but if this is what the father of thrash, speed metal, looks like, damn, i hasn't been living properly lately
It seems silly to split hairs on genres. But it is a matter of style. Metallica and Megadeth's first albums both sounded like speed metal to me. The thrash sound evolved in their later albums.
Metallica was never speed. Their first album was pure thrash, after that they got into the whole 2 thrash songs per album and a bunch of mid tempo and slow melodic pretty songs.
Hammerhead is my favorite song ,, it really amps me up. Just got back from the Colorado River on my jet ski, thrashing with Hammerhead in my mind the whole time!!
Many months after Cliff died, a radio show called 'Metalshop' was talking about the new bassist for Metallica one night. They then played Hammerhead and I was blown away. This disc and No Place for Disgrace are amazing. As someone said, too bad Hetfield didn't let Jason shine. I have never forgiven them for it.
yeah from some interviews they seem to regret it too. if you listen to the justice album he sounds like he was just told to follow the guitar chords..you know really basic...like he wasnt allowed to put much else in...of course this is the album after cliff so i understand...but damn f&j sound awsome in thie album and i never heard there stuff before.
They were and they even admit that they hazed the hell out of that guy, James said that if he could go back in time and had a chance to be less of an ass, he would.

so u say thrash metal is not metal?
Crosell 2 years ago 4
Haha thrash is the purest essence of metal. More thrash than metal you mean.
TranceSFX 2 years ago
It is fast(ish). It has a high pitched style of singing. It doesn't have really crunchy guitars.
F&J = speed metal.
audiodead 2 years ago
The driving rhythm guitar at around 0:38 sounds just like the kick pedal from four horsemen and Mechanix. This is thrash bro.
I know what you mean though, about the speed metal thing, but thrash and speed metal are kinda borderline.

I have the special edition of Doomsday. Flotsam and Jetsam is the fucking ideal Thrash band. Too bad they strayed away from Thrash.

This album received the highest review ever for a debut album by Kerrang magazine. Received the only 6k rating ever by the mag.
