I like this, but I hate the fact, that when your mouse is NOT on the taskbar, it still is highlighted. This gives you a nice effect, but like for Firefox (orange icon) it's not nice, because I always think something changed in the window (wich gives orange glow)... that sucks

well back in 04, they had Longhorn Build (4074) Milestone 7 which was unstable in some areas, then they dropped Longhorn and started with Vista, taking out some things from Longhorn...so dropping that OS and rushing Vista was a mistake.
They should've stayed on track with Longhorn although in a lot of respects, Windows 7 while not having full WinFS, is Longhorn.
Find Longhorn Reloaded M1, a 3rd party project that Microsoft stopped, but is still around and you'll see if you haven't already. =)
I don't see what's so wrong about visual effects. It adds to the experience. If you don't like it, then change to the basic 95 look. Win - win for those who want a good looking interface and for those who want the basic one.

I've installed it on a brand new machine with a quad core, an old desktop machine with a Celeron D and 1 gig of ram and a really shitty laptop with a pentium 3 mobile and 256MB RAM. No problems at all.

Windows had a "dock" years ago, but it had less functionality. The Dock Apple has is more great and got more functionality. Now, Windows stole some functionality, but I think the Apple Dock is much greater. Apple will sue Microsoft if they steal more functionality.
The super task bar is no OS X Dock. I personally use both the Windows 7 Super Taskbar with a dock on my Vista. I have the preview done, the icons done, and the buttons, and the transparency. I cannot control the preview, though. The Finder in OS X is essentially the taskbar in Windows. Macs are the same as Windows, running on MS-DOS. There are still icons, windows, minimize-close-maximize buttons, everything like that. Essentially the same, but changed, more appealing to users.
Unless you're a graphic designer, movie editor, or a musician that likes Logic Pro/DP, a mac is not much more than a $3000 base level pc. I Love how fanboys never mention how temperamental mac can be, ESPECIALLY when you're showing them off to windows users! They glaze over the "spinning wheel of death" issue as well "No it didn't crash!

More viruses/exploits/worms for Windows because most people have PC and if you work really hard on one of those you want to get the most people you can. I'm pretty sure if Mac was the most popular OS there would be plenty of ways to screw with them. In most cases, there is no better OS. It just depends on what you're using it for. Multimedia programs and stability goes to Mac. Versatility and compatibility goes to PC.

it's not aiming at OSX Tiger, Windows 7 is basically Vista with a new taskbar and other features along with massive speed improvements! I couldn't care less, and neither could Microsoft? about whether my OS LOOKS like a Mac (Looks like a Mac? WTF? lol) I only care about the stuff I use it for, it's open, the apps are virtually limitless, you don't need to buy a $1500 computer to edit video and music because theres Premiere, Vegas and Audition. I tried ubuntu but ended up using xp more and more in virtual box because of the lack of proper software for music producing in ubuntu, compiz/xgl did get me some dates with some chicks, but at the end there was no point and switched back xp.
I hope that all of that effects doesn't make the GUI slower, or else, everything they put on won't do a shit. Note, I like more XP because of its stability, compatibility and Speed, not because it's pretty and or safer. Anyways Vista get viruses, so it's no that safe

Take KDE 4.x change default Plasma theme to "Glassified" (part of KDE and 1st appeared months ago before mid '08), change wallpaper to Vladstudios "Underwater" (from 2007). And with very little effort, without even using the Windows 7 wallpaper you have a desktop that is almost identical to Windows 7.
And Vladstudio is not something I just randomly picked out, the default wallpaper for KDE 4.0, "Eos" was also from Vladstudio.
My point that Microsoft is not an innovator but an imitator stands.
It's useless because it doesn't add any value, it doesn't increase my productivity with a PC, it doesn't speed up anything, it's just a useless gimmick.
The only thing it has going for it is that is a nice marketing point, the computer store owner can show this off and make the retarded customer cream his pants.

I always wondered how people can juge a piece of software by previews like this one. Actually, windows 7 sounds pretty good to me, but I don't KNOW if it'll be good or not. I mean, at least wait for the public beta in January to give it a try and THEN, make up your mind.

windows: simplicity the reason xp was such a big hit, most of windows was not very sleek or looked cool except vista, windows 7 will definitely be better than os x

it's not aiming at OSX Tiger, Windows 7 is basically Vista with a new taskbar and other features along with massive speed improvements! I couldn't care less, and neither could Microsoft? about whether my OS LOOKS like a Mac (Looks like a Mac? WTF? lol) I only care about the stuff I use it for, it's open, the apps are virtually limitless, you don't need to buy a $1500 computer to edit video and music because theres Premiere, Vegas and Audition. This is a milestone too. Just wait!

yeah dude, they've done both, it appears that they've made the interface more nicer and practical, while making it respond alot faster and work better, which is always a plus ;-) I never really had a problem with Vista as far as performance tho. Just my 2 cents

you'll NEED 1+GB of RAM, a nice video card and a multi-core CPU if you want to multi-task and work with intensive applications you idiot, Not only do you get the reward of having the computer run alot faster, and looks better its compatable with old Win 2000/XP apps aswell. It CAN run on that shit, but that's just to show how much they've improved it's performance, who the fuck would want those specs in this day and age?? Would you?

I tried ubuntu but ended up using xp more and more in virtual box because of the lack of proper software for music producing in ubuntu, compiz/xgl did get me some dates with some chicks, but at the end there was no point and switched back xp.

I think this features (the new and old Aero graphics on Vista and 7) should be ran in desktop PC's, where the performance is better than a laptop, so, each one decides it.

It would also be very nice if microsoft put out windows7 copies at a reasonable OEM price, excluding the pointless multiple versions that made up vista. How much was a copy of vista anyhow? I would buy this if it was 100 dollars or less. Even leopard was like 99 dollars and allowed for multiple installs with the family pack.

Take KDE 4.x change default Plasma theme to "Glassified" (part of KDE and 1st appeared months ago before mid '08), change wallpaper to Vladstudios "Underwater" (from 2007). And with very little effort, without even using the Windows 7 wallpaper you have a desktop that is almost identical to Windows 7.
And Vladstudio is not something I just randomly picked out, the default wallpaper for KDE 4.0, "Eos" was also from Vladstudio.
My point that Microsoft is not an innovator but an imitator stands.

dude i use xp because its customizable, all the pros use it coz it got a good balance. vista and what not are similar to mac os which gives u no freedom. anyone can run vista now but look what happened they are already replacing it with something that shouldve been vista. i will wait for the all clear sign. dont take microsoft's word for it. all i see here is fancy stuff how about gives us word on functionality. u say its faster what do u mean by that?

Windows 7 is meant to be faster because they have taken out alot of code that made Vista too bloated. I'm not sure how they have made it faster apart from that. But they said in the keynote that they have made speed improvements
