Beautiful and humbling. I love the music too. Reminds me of watching the cosmos for the first time (for obvious reasons). I wish I could get in on soundtrack!
And please don't insult the beauty and grandeur of the universe by stating it is only an accident. Fact is, none of us know.
Whether by accident or design, the universe is beyond incredible in size, numbers and beauty and this doesn't even take into account multiple dimensions and possibly infinite parallel universes. We have no way of knowing or proving whether it has a creator or was a mere chance event. Either way, we get to witness a spectacular universe.
@Tralman1965 I don't want to start a debate here, but I'm pretty sure I'd treat others the way I want to be treated without people in funny dresses telling me to. Thanks for watching though!
What does this mean? Advocacy of moral relativism? All cultures are equal? Even those that practice human sacrifice and genocide? Everyone is their own God? Humans are very flawed and need guidance of their values. Babies are born narcisistic with a knack for making a living hell for their parents. They are born innocent, but not necessarily good. Shaping good people is a constant process, and religion is a way of collecting "lessons learned" and providing rules for life. The quote is nonsense!
@beholdfateknocks I guess I'm having trouble recalling a specific incident. Did he make the sacrifice to himself? I'm no Biblical scholar, but if you enlighten me, maybe I can explain the moral lesson(s) that came from any such sacrifice. What you don't seem to comprehend is that the Bible provides wisdom - lessons of life that guides us. Humanity didn't begin the day you were born.
@beholdfateknocks Your original question was a little ambiguous, so I'm glad you clarified. You're right. If there is no objective right or wrong, then there is nothing wrong with human sacrifice or genocide. Dostoyevsky said that without God, everything is permissible. I reject moral relativism. Yes, God did permit instances of genocide, but it was a one-time purging. If it was permitted by the Bible as doctrine, then I'd reject Judeo-Christian ethics (at least knowing what I know now).
@bobcrunch and of course ole dostoy says this because god provides absolute morality. well, human sacrifice, even if only commited once, is either immoral by god's own admission and/or god's law is not absolute. you can take your pick. The old testament, and this is no small secret, clearly portrays a god that has no problem with genocide. I'm aware you just admitted that but i can't drive that point home enough. I would also beg to differ that it was a one time deal.
@beholdfateknocks You've made some very serious charges about God. I've refuted your assertions. It's now time for you to back up your accusations. I challenge your assertions that God has committed human sacrifice or genocide. Where do you get your wisdom? From the New York Times editorial page?
@beholdfateknocks The “sacrifice” of Jesus was not made to glorify God, but to save humanity. No serious moral thinker has ever suggested that the death of Jesus was a glorification of God. It was a gift to humanity. Jesus knew this and went willingly. John 3:16 continues to stand for the hope of huminity.
Let me know of other examples that you call “sacrifice” and I’ll set you straight.
@bobcrunch you didn't set anyone straight on the first example. it doesn't really matter what the purpose of the sacrifice was. he could've sacrificed jesus to put an end to dinosaurs but the fact remains, that was a human sacrifice. and besides, for a god who shuns murder and who is omnipotent, you'd think he would step back and find another solution to saving mankind than breaking one of his own rules commandments. and i never said god's sacrifice of jesus was a glorification to himself
@TummyTush That statement is nonsense. Humans are religious animals: it's just a matter of finding out what their religion is. Panthiesm seems to be popular now (thanks Avatar). Let me know when you get the Ten Commandments from a tree.
The nearest star to the solar system is about 4 1/2 lightyears away (a roughly average distance between stars, may up to a dozen of so) Their are more than 400 billion stars in our galaxy alone and more than 500 billion galaxies in the known universe. The Nearest galaxy to the milky way is between 2.5 to 3 million lightyears away from it's edge. The heavens declair the glory of God, they are the work of thy hands.
Please tell me how god fits into anything you mentioned. Please don't insult the beauty & grandeur of the natural universe by stating that it is the work of "god".
Don't start getting mad because someone mentions God, not everyone on Youtube believes the same as you and I have as much right as you do to comment. I may debate you at a later time but right now I am kinda in several debates.
Space is big. Neptune and Uranus are both more than 4 times the diameter of the Earth. Jupiter is almost 1,400 times the volume of the Earth and the Sun is more than 1,300,000 million times the volume of the Earth. The Sun is an average fine tuned but small star, meening the average star would be several times as big as the Sun. The Moon is about 31 1/2 Earths away yet it takes light just under two seconds to travel that distance. The Sun is almost 8 1/2 light minutes away from the Earth.
lets do the universe a favor and blow ourselves up.

You dont need religion to teach life lessons. Secular societies can be as good, thriving and peaceful as any religious countires.

@bobcrunch john 3:16, thats where i got it from. well, the human sacrifice bit. you can find genocide in almost all of the old testament.
