Listen to this one, then go listen to ([HD] Radiohead - Weird Fishes/Arpeggi (Live @ Saitama Super Arena - Oct 5, 08 - Tokyo, Japan)...amazing how much better they've gotten at performing this one live!
I wish this song had played during my first kiss. Something about it would have been amazing. Ah well, I will have it playing with the next person i kiss
Comparing a band to another band is utterly disrespectful!
There's something dark, perhaps reserved about Radiohead. Greenwoods minor keyed, augmented 7th, suspended chords behind Thom's high ended, whiny voice backing his dark hearted words and narcissistic mood just make them creepishly catchy. Love 'em or hate 'em (or both!), they are brilliant (at least in their own minds, but isn't everyone?).
The problem is that their innovation is pure brilliance, but pure brilliance sometimes does not translate to good music.
Speaking as someone leading an art rock band, it's very difficult to walk the line of innovation and musical ingenuity while still creating music that is enjoyable and meaningful.
Hmm, your statement is true for one side of the spectrum. To listeners that don't understand the innovation behind certain music, it may very well not be enjoyable nor meaningful. To the artist, however, it's alot different. To strive for innovation AND be content with the end result makes it all the more meaningful and enjoyable.
Every artist or band out there has the potential to be great - you just have to open your ears and your heart (assuming the intention is there to begin with).
I agree. I simply was saying that creating good music, in the eyes of the audience (or rather, ears), is not necessarily entirely based in musical brilliance or innovation.
Now, 6 months after that post, I am about to release an album, and am perfectly aware of the line of the artist being happy with the product (or not) and the vast difference between that end, and actually having listeners/fans.
I prefer this version because of the nice playing of the drums in the quit part. Keeps the drive and glues the parts together. At least a very silent ambient pad with some stringslike high tones in the background would be nice to fill the gap which is a tiny bit too big for my taste.
Wao, this is the best material I have heard since the Ok Computer times. What really suprises me that they also can be very romantic, in a wierd Radiohead kind way.
Pink Floyds Material cannot hold a candle to the consistand solidity of Radiohead Music. They were groundbreaking in an experimental sense yes but I would take Radiohead B-sides over Pink Floyd A-sides anyday. In my opinion Radiohead has taken music the farthest out of any composers in the recorded history of this planet.
Without taking anything from Radiohead, they are in my opinion the best band in the past 2 decades but you cannot take anything away from pink floyd. They were the radiohead of their day groundbreaking, rule breaking, both bands of artists in their own right.
Whether you care for Floyd or Radiohead is nothing more than a matter of personal taste.
You're cherry-picking. Sure a band like Sonic Youth has highly experimental songs like Bad Moon Rising, The Diamond Sea, etc...but they also have very approachable punk rock songs like "100%", "On The Strip", "Bull In The Heather", etc.
In the same way, Radiohead had approachable songs, but they also have songs like "Pull/Pulk Revolving Doors", "Fasttrack", "In Limbo", "Hunting Bears", "Feral", "The Gloaming", etc. They're as sane, or insane, as they choose, and great both ways.
that's maybe because music is about individual taste and is up to the appreciation of every person... there is no OBJECTIVE way to prove which band is better than other.
But I must say that for me this is maybe the greatest album of the 2000's... and Radiohead is leading the scene in musical innovation (MY VERY OWN OPINION)
This is my fravite song on the alnum next to all i need and reckoner, i mean it beatiful dreamy, darm i love how they build it all up then let it on "weird fishes" that bit just makes me cry.... Radiohead you are my fravite always!
they are the "pink floyd" of our generation. im not saying theyre better than floyd or vice versa, im just saying that similarities are there. just like floyd, every album is different and pretty much a masterpiece. before bashing me, this is just my opinion. anyway can't wait to see them live!!!!!

i disagree radiohead is more like a modern day pink floyd without the guitar solos.they are easily the most innovative band in the last twenty years.

Ed's harmonies on this song may just be my favourite Radiohead moment this side of Reckoner's violins.
Amazing.
Blows OKC out of the water, imo.
Kid A still stands tall though.

what do you mean "out"? Listen to Bad moon rising by Sonic youth, that's out there.
I love radiohead more than any other band ever but they are not nearly as experimental as you are saying they are.
