  • Wow.. I'm so impressed. ..at last I found it. Gosh it took me so damn long and none of from my yard couldn't recall that song or either cartoon while I tried to cast their mind back. It's all of mine that time when I was 10 or so. Thanks to ya'll peers. Pozdrawiam..

  • @Alexis3b I do remember being a show difficult to follow yet there were somehow you wanted to see how it all ended. I Think even my mom was intrigued by it and watched! In retrospect, the fact that such an intellectual cartoon managed to succeed and remain in the collective subconscious of many people is a triumph. Of course, the killer theme tune helps...

  • All based on a true story

  • Fucking ACTA will prevent us to listen to songs like these. The guy that uploaded it, would be sent to jail for 5 years. Screw the humanity.

  • I would love to have seen this song performed live.

  • This show was better off without Menudo.

  • @TheRealThreeP Hey, I liked the Menudo opening.

  • @GoGojiraGo Everybody's entitled to their opinion. I was merely voicing mine, and no one's twisting your arm to share it.

  • I found it! I bloody found it after so many years. One of the first cartoons I remember. I am still listening to it with my whole childhood in front of my eyes.

  • I could listen to this song 10 times in a row.....in fact I just did ! Now for the next 10

  • French kids discovered the original version of this cartoon entitled 'Les mondes engloutis' in 1985. As a French boy I always though it was too 'intellectual' and a bit boring with too many philosophical references. At the time, the drawings seemed also a bit crappy.

Yet the original song composed by Vladimir Cosma and interpreted by the 'Mini-star' band is very pleasant and this english cover version appear more mature and therefore better than the French one for once.

  • @alexis3b Sérieusement ?! Les Mini star sont bien meilleurs !! Tu fais juste de la lèche aux yankies honte à toi.

  • remember watching this everyday after school...Dem days!!!

  • @madzogo1 Same here. I want a time machine, dammit!

  • Always liked the theme of this. Never cared much for Nickelodeons shows save for their intros.

  • I remember watching this on SKY ONE channel on 1991 year in POLAND :)

  • I remember watching this and Mysterious Cities of Gold on Nickelodeon as a kid, but I could never follow the plot of Spartakus as I think I kept watching the episodes out of order.

  • I had exactly the same situation!!!!!

  • This is the first time that I've heard this theme. 10th time I've replayed it... love it.

  • I have had this song at the back of my mind for years, and all I could remember it was from a cartoon, but no idea which one. So I had a long search of cartoon themes on You Tube and couldn't find it. Just now I see recommendations from YT and there it is. Sometimes things come to you when you aren't looking. Now to see if I can download the theme.

  • Man I was so little when I watched this very strange show, all I remember was a part of the theme song (sun and beneath the sea) couple google searches and bam!... Always thought it was an anime... no idea it was french.

  • wow, everyone keeps having strange "reunions" with this XD today, a random girl at university was whistling this melody, and half an hour long I was like "why is it so familiar, hoe do I know this tune, by the way, this note is supposed to be a bit higher, but how do i know it at all?!" :) and all of a sudden it hit me where it was from, but i got here from wikipedia's disambiguaion too because i had no idea about the title anymore :P

  • To be honest, I've never heard of this one, but the theme song's pretty cool.

  • I love it!!! I always watch this cartoon with my best friend's brother (he is 6 years old).

  • I salute you my friend. My dearest memories live on.

  • thank God 4 youtube....now childhood memories can live on

  • french version was the best :)

  • @nohare45 indeed.

  • @nohare45 no, try hungarian " Elsüllyedt világok " :)

  • Wow. This gives me goosebumps just to hear it again, thanks!

  • very cool!! I forgot about this - having such awesome memories now!! Kristy :)

  • This ans The city of gold opening songs are some of the best from my childhood!

  • this is hipper than ariel pink

  • Possibly the best 80s string instrument cartoon theme, second only to Thundercats.

  • Who is the actual singer?

  • Thank you.

Jupp I´m also one that have searched a long time and gotten blank faces staring back at me :D

  • Shine, like the sun that lies beneath the sea Devine is the one we call Terra Far from the world we knew so long ago Mine, is the land Arcadia We vast on the strata in our magic ship We're strong, for our hearts now beat as one Matt and Rebecca believe Arcana Brave, while the sun still burns Go, follow Spartacus To the sun beneath the sea We're so near to the universe Which has long disappeared Rainbow dawn of Arcadia Shining sun beneath the sea

  • Thanks for uploading the US version.

  • There is a 26 (of 52) episode "fan" DVD set if the English dub of this series. It also has the end episode in it. Look of it on the intermet. Fabulous Films are working on an official DVD set but don't expect it to be out (if it ever does) before September 2012.

  • My bad, SaltySutek, I accidentaly hit the dislike button, instead of the like one. Sorry. D:

  • Memories

  • It was more than 15 years ago when this show aired in my country. Very early in the morning on Cartoon Network, I used to set my alarm clock for it. Best cartoon song ever!

  • I remember waking up every morning at some ungodly hour to catch this show on Nickelodeon. It's been more than 20 years, and I still haven't gotten this song out of my head.

  • @VerizonEclipse LOL I know. I did the same thing. Who the hell voluntarily gets up early just to watch a show??? Only kids do stupid crap like that, hahaha!

  • Same here! I've been trying to find this show for years but couldn't even remember what it was called. I was searching Wikipedia for the tv show Spartacus: Blood and Sand and saw this under the disambiguation. Turns out EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD has been looking for this, too.

  • Congrats, you have found it. I am another one. I went looking a few years ago, and I never made it this far, and was surprised how little info I could find. Living in the US, it was on 'Nickelodeon' in the morning.

  • This is sooo weird, I thought it was just me who thought this show didnt excist, I live in the uk, I remember watching this on "The Childrens Channel" when sky tv first came out, It took me ages to find this because no one had any idea what i was on about, Its wasnt until i started singing the theme tune in my head that i found it by typing into "Kids show with sun beneathe the sea in theme tune", if i didnt vaguely remember the theme tune i would of never of found this.

  • This is bizarre - there are SO MANY of us that have had the same experience with this show - obviously we all loved it to remember it over the years, but so many of us had been faced with blank stares when talking to others about this show. Yet, here we are now thanks to YouTube all saying how we thought we IMAGINED this show for so many years!! This is equally bizarre and fascinating!!

  • I agree with everyone who says that they think they imagined this one. I kept saying to friends, "there was this cartoon with a white lady, and the word Arcadia, and a really moving theme song, I know there was!". I'm so frigging thankful for youtube!

  • i can't believe i actually cried when i found this cartoon here! and as @saltySutek said, creepy!

  • Damn this was so long ago! I remember this was great but strange. Definitely different from the standard american cartoons.

  • @misstinwhistle1 Maybe because it had a story and a progression towards an end rather than the general randomness where the bad guys escape in each episode, even though the good guys win.

  • a metal version of this would be awesome!! LOL!!!!!

  • I used to whistle the theme to this show not knowing where it came from in my past. And I kept having flashbacks of it and thinking "Was this real? Or am I imagining it?". And FINALLY I found a link to it on the MCOG wiki page and found this you tube video and the first comments I see are: "FOUND IT AT LAST IM NOT CRAZY" and "I KNEW THIS WAS REAL"

Man so many people had the same experience with this as I did. Creep.y

  • @SaltySutek believe me my friend for years i m singing this tune.. i m describing to everyone things i remembered and noone remembered evereything.. and i was so sure it was real and not something i imagined. and yesterday my love found it for me after almost 15 years that i m trying to find it.

i really got moved. and playing it again and again , but the french version that was played here in greeece

WE R NOT CRAZY!! ITS REAL!

  • @SaltySutek Strange how so few remembered this show, I certainly do and enjoyed it. When I brought it up among friends, no one save for one remembered. It was a long time ago, I don't think it got much air play on Nickelodian back in the day. No, you're not crazy!

  • @SaltySutek I've had the same thing for twenty years!! for the longest time i thought it was part of the Mysterious cities of Gold as it had the same style as it and Ulysess 31.

Still, the question of my sanity is stil in debate but now i know i really didn't hallucinate it ^_^

  • @SaltySutek This is what I exactly had been thinking. Because whenever I whistle this melody to people and ask if they remember this cartoon, all weird looks what I recieved back lol I found a video of it finally and showing to all friends now :)) It's just a magical mystique part of my childhood. (But of course we had the French version which is way more stunning.)

  • you can search as "Les Mondes Engloutis"

  • @SaltySutek Same Story Here

  • @SaltySutek OMG ME TOO! I GOT TINGLY JUST BY READING THAT!

  • @SaltySutek EXACTLY! Ditto. fucking DITTO!

  • @SaltySutek same here hahahaha I AM NOT CRAZY!!!! amazing cartoons! i was so little when this aired but i loved it!! the storyline was amazing!

  • @SaltySutek You guys were actually watching the American adaptation of a cartoon from France

  • @SaltySutek Original version was sang by "Mini-Star", kids10-12yrs old at the time (early '80s

  • @SaltySutek Search on Youtube "Les mondes engloutis" for the original French version theme song of this show :)

  • i miss these shows

  • @ricksears98 Everyone does. EVERYONE. Those were the days.

  • @EleBrit96 yep it was easy to not know how the world worked then

  • @ricksears98 So true. Back when everything was so easy. Ah, how time flies.

  • @EleBrit96 hence why i watch old anime when im in my room lol that and no access to cable

  • OMG i haven't seen this show since 1989. I don't remember some of the eps but i remember this song like it was yesterday. Thanks for uploading this.

  • am african n i watched this show 15 years ago!!!! loved the theme song, and the cartoon :)

  • love it

  • @guilhemestournes Unfortunate. Was this show popular in France during it's prime? Because over here in the states, you can hardly find anyone who remembers it. It's a damn shame, too. I loved this show.

  • @thesam00 I don't know if it was popular in France, but, I'm French-Canadian (born in Montreal, Quebec), and I remember the song in French "Les Mondes Engloutis", but, like someone else said before, I thought I imagined that song in my head, not remembering where I heard it before...was popular in Quebec!

  • You can with BananaMan,DangerMouse, & Count Duckula is the orignal nicktoon. What countery did this come form.

  • I thoght it was a great show. The second season was a little hokey when they had the pirates in it but I enjoyed the show. I tried to describe this show to people but they dont know what i was talking about.

  • squeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

I really do wish they would put this on DVD. It was one of my favorite series when I was 8 years old.

  • I rememer this series from my childhood but I can't remember what the story is? Anyways good memories

  • @Saemaey a great cataclysm occurs and arkana's peole end up beneath planetary surface, powered by a subteranean sun, but when that begins to weaken, the youngsters go into the archives in hopes of finding some glimmer of hope for their ppl. They end up travelling outside their city and having lots of adventures. I don't recall an ending to the series tho.

  • AHHH finally found it! Seriously everyone in my family was starting to think i was crazy! hahaha i found it!

  • I am 29 now and this was one of my favorite cartoons. I couldn't see how this ends and probably never will. Nobody remembers this show, but it was for sure one of the best. Wish my kids could see this someday :P

  • Fabulous Films do want to relase the English language series of this show on DVD. They are in the long and painful process of getting this done. But it will take time. Check their website current details.

  • damn this song has a insane bassline! applause to the black man playing this!

  • It's comforting to read know that I didn't make this up and other people went through the same pain that I did. I'd tell people about this show but nobody ever remembered it. The first time I saw the cartoon I remember just sitting there shocked and not saying anything. I'm now 25 and sat in my office at work and after playing that.. I still don't know what to say about it. I feel like going to sleep and waking up in the 80's! I never ever forgot the music. This was a REAL cartoon! None of this

  • @intermission You are SO NOT alone! :) 33-year old here, loved this show. I also loved Mysterious Cities of Gold, that was my favorite. This show, Spartakus had so much! Science Fiction, Family, danger, joy, sadness, death, and life.

  • @Tigerman1138 I'm 32 years years old and i remember watching this show when i was a kid. Brings back memories

  • @Tigerman1138 Mysterious Cities of Gold, I grew up watching that in French, growing up in Montreal, Quebec! lol, search "Les Mysterieuses Cites D'or" :)

  • Yes, I said "nay", yet without offense (hence I'm coming forth too). My main gripe with it is no animation (which is the stuff I loved) and no intro. Every episode came with the intro about the "children of Arcadia". So if you claim to have the "full opening theme" then add this too. You did NOT give us the opening theme, this is the /closing/ theme. Hence my "nay" even though I truthfully appreciate the effort because well.. This animation was dated yet awesome (and so was the soundtrack!).

  • Oh, :) :O :O :O I soooo lurved this program. No one I ask remembers it though. How sad for them hey. :)

  • Haven't seen this show since the late 80s, yet this theme song is exactly as I remembered!

  • I was 8-10 years old when the cartoon first showed on TV. Sad... Getting old.

  • @TorwaK Same here - not sad, it's great cause we're the generation who enjoyed awesome shows like this. Nothing like that on TV anymore!!

  • I've seen it 2 minutes ago on tv :D (on Minimax, i am also from Romania) this show has always been one of my favorites. i remember watching it everyday when i was little <3 and trying to sing along to this, although i couldn't understand the lyrics that time.

  • @privatepinkbits I HEAR YOU!! For years I've tried to find this show and could never get the name. Everyone I talked to had no idea what it was! I'm not insane! Woohoo!

  • HOLYFRAG!!

I haven't seen this show in years and I still remember all the lyrics!

That's how awesomely memorable it was!

  • Goddamnit, France. Release the full 2 season English dub on DVD. You have my word we'll never give you shit about anything ever again. Ever. For reals. I promise.

  • The great song has tricked me into thinking this show wasn't so boring I wanted to die.

  • I used to watch this in the mornings before kindergarten. Until the proliferation of youtube it was just a faint memory sitting in my brain next to BananaMan and that episode of G. I. Joe where Lady Jay ends up losing her pants.

  • I finally found it :-) I always remebered this intro, but couldn't remember the name of the series. Thanks!!

  • why does the animation from lets say 40's is super nice and from the 70's 80's it starts to suck?

  • 2 people 's childhood has "long disappeared"....

  • i remember this =)

  • I never really got into the show, but the theme is beautiful! Was this one of the many cartoon themes written by Haim Saban and Shuki Levi?

  • I suppose... no one has the English-dubbed version of this TV show @ *true*/*genuine* DVD quality, right? :-(

  • you're the best..thanks for the song......I was searching it for a long long long time and didn't even know the name of the cartoon....thanks again....

  • Tears

  • Thank you so much for this! I never knew there was a full version in English (just like the original French). I thought the English version was only one verse. You have made my day!

  • My brother was wondering why he kept flashing back to a couple of anteaters dancing about in his head. He thought he was nuts till I found these songs. The music of this show is AWESOME!

  • I dunno why but when I was a child I loved the show but gave me the creeps, a weird feeling in my stomach ... thumbs up if it happened to you

  • @triggerxp lol! I thought I was the only one, right down to the weird feeling in the stomach and everything. What's weird is despite the weird feeling, I would watch it anyway, and I really didn't care for it one way or another. Strange show indeed.

  • @triggerxp Ditto! lol

  • a point in time i will never forget i loved this cartoon with all of my heart i lost contact with it before i ever saw its finale and was heart broken for years and wondered for years if the Terra was every restored. But it was........tears have flowed for this knowledge and completion. thank u for this video sir

  • a point in time i will never forget

  • you can say that again! I am sooo excited I thought this cartoon had been a figment of my imagination (which would have been pretty awesome actually)....lol. Thank you...

  • I loved this show as a child... wow, its been about 22-23 years!!! One of the best!!!

  • LOL @privatepinkbits.. I felt the same way for YEARS until I found the song on the web.

  • this shows was so ...different...i was uneasy..yet couldnt stop myself from watching it...

  • @andresaimar2010

Yeah, I remember it making me uneasy too for some reason, but I loved it anyway. Maybe that's why I loved it.

  • @andresaimar2010 ahah, same here! Used to watch it in French, always felt confused and weirded out by it, but, was drawned to it, especially the theme song, search "Les Mondes Engloutis"

  • thanks panzerfaust!

  • the original version in french flows better

  • Wow, nostalgia. Great cartoon!

  • I remember this quite well, none of my friends do!! I remembered the song and story line and tried to explain it to them and no one remembered it. Thank you for posting this as now I can show them and prove I'm not gone crazy... Love it.

  • beautiful song...

  • Its not the same without the narration at the beginning of this song in the TV series.

  • Go Follow Spartakus! Awesome song. Its like an stream of conciousness from the far future.

  • i love this :D x

  • :(( I FOUND IT I FOUND IT AT LAST IM NOT CRAZY

  • @privatepinkbits I knew what you mean as until I found this or other Spartakus related vids on here I used to think I was NUTS too, had dreamed the entire thing up:)

  • @lomeinie this song danced around in my head since i was in highschool im 33 now and like everyone here thought i imagined it, i thank youtube for curing my insanity my mental health wasnt going to last much longer

  • @privatepinkbits It's BIZZARE isn't it - roughly the same age as you. I can't believe so many of us have had the same experience. Others just not remembering this show while we clearly did!!

  • @privatepinkbits Exactly how I feel. I thought for years I had maybe dreamed this up. My 10 year old self loved the chorus to this song. The 30 something version loves it still.

  • @zandder i feel the same way. I thought i dreamed this show and this song in my head also lol. I remember the cities of gold cartoon more than this show though.

  • @privatepinkbits you have no idea how long i had that same thought in my head

  • @privatepinkbits i know what you mean by "i'm not crazy"...it's so frustrating when you know everything about the show and can't remember the name of it, ask everyone with a description and they have no clue what ye talkin bout and you just start doubting yourself haha

  • @privatepinkbits

    Ha haa mee too !!!

  • I liked this version MUCH more than the Menudo version...

  • beautiful theme song!! I love it

  • @KiddJetix Yes it for real, go to Lion Gate Entertainment to find more details.

  • i was looking for this theme song...it has been ringing in my head for years.............the quality is wonderful...am all teary :-)
