I've read the comics of the dreams of red chamber during my childhood days & apparently, the story started off with a thousand-year old stone from heaven that had become enlightened. Then, it saw 12 beautiful fairies dancing in heaven & taking turns "jumping" downwards to earth. The stone insisted on following them & a priest & a monk from heaven granted him this wish so he was born as Jia Baoyu, with a piece of jade in his mouth. Sounds like a fairy-tale alright!
