You're wrong all. It's a custom-modified analog monophonic synth. Here: read, all about it! I always thought it was a piccolo recorder, until I noticed an obvious palm glissando, what a warm sound!

I think it's a Theremin. But upon further research, I'm wrong it was a Clavioline which is a really primitive synth.

@SerratedAMG I'm not sure but I think it's a Hammond B-3. Look through the thumb nails there is one that Del talks a quick history no this composition with a friend who duplicates the riff on his keyboard. Great song. Grab the TV series Crime Story version and listen for the lyric change.
