I saw this production tonight (June 19) after almost skipping it--thank goodness I didn't--and it compared very favorably with the Houston G&S production of 2008. The musical values of this production were much higher than most of what's available in this opera on YouTube, and it also worked as an engaging drama, maybe even better than Houston's production in that respect. There is some very solid directing going on here! A VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE.
