  • I hear a lot of Lightfoot in your guitar playing (he is one of my favs). I will have to look to see if you have done a rendition of "Beautiful."

  • Great rendition of this song. Love the key and tempo you use in this arrangement.

  • I love it!! may I ask? is it a little quick?

  • @eckman65 yes. I felt bad. I dont try to match the original. Was a bit of a controversy in the beginning of the post. then someone said he actually did it faster . Maybe w flying machines... sO U GOT ME INTERESTED SO I SEARCHED THE WEB AND I FOUNDthis gem .will send the link .it wont post hereHis original was faster than mine. whew ...LOL thanks.ps next to hime my guitar playing is a bit weak. :-)

  • Great video! Still can't get the intro...are you just playing an A7 and sliding it up and back?

  • @jirose27 Middle finger on fourth string, 3 finger on second string . Use the index finger when you smile up As you lift off the third finger.I think

  • I applaud you. Covered excellently, beautifully played and sung. Thank you for posting this.

  • @romanowskistudios appreciated:-)

  • Great job!

  • good job bro.....i love james.......the finger picken i havent mastered yet lol

  • awesome man

  • @mycatwilatackyou so kind of you. This was one of my favorites. the kind comments inspired me to continue.just to demonstrate my inexperience, it was recorded with my HEPA filter going (lots of dust allergies) so it's a bit noisy . also the HEPA filter is visible on the left. :-). Thanks again.

  • excellent, didnt knew this tune, only from the beatles 5*********

  • Really really good. great guitar playing and a really good voice. I enjoyed listening and watching those smooth chord changes. Thanks.

  • Wow! You got a very smooth voice! Really lovely! I watched your video quite a few times a wile back and finally uploaded a cover myself. Maybe you could take a look? Again, wonderful music! Great job!

  • Not bad. Sounds like you've got the main thing. I've just been studying a JT recording of it, and I hear a few things differently. I wish I knew how to make an uploadable movie on this MacBook so I could share with you my version.

    BH

  • Excellent! What kind of guitar are you using? Great singing by the way!

  • martin OM 28.

You have great taste in artists, JT I mean. :-)

Your young fr a JT fan relativekly speaking.

  • Wow, lovely sound on this recording, i think it's my favorite of all your vids so far :)

  • thnaks

  • You do have a nice way of playing another fine JT song (actually most of them came in his first two CDs - one from Apple is rare. You sound like James and I think you ought to show you face - that should be your second step to stardom.

  • thaks.dont want any stardom.this is hiw i relax

  • What about me? I've got a family to support and the managing fees I would get .. well you are not being fair.

  • idont think either of us should quit our day job just yet. :-)

  • we should not quit our day jobs justyet>LOL

  • Thanks just in time before I jumped ship.

  • whew!

  • You are lovely.

  • flattered.

  • Thanks for posting this. I think that your singing is lovely too! great.

  • so very kind. The world needs more lovely things.Glad I could contribute. :-)

  • excellent job...show your face...yer awesome

  • ITS ABOUT THE MUSIC NOT ME. Plus this is so antithetical to the people who know me . Plus I dont have a head.LOL.

  • nice cover

  • thanks

  • I knew JT for awhile..Great Guy .....Its true George Harrison ripped the title but obviously wrote an entirely different song. James was the first act signed to Apple records. The Beatles label.....In fact Paul is the base player on Carolina in My Mind.. Thank You for the video. Please put up some more JT fingering... MG

  • thanks

  • You've inspired me to pick up my acoustic after 20 years..... 5***** great work

  • You owe it to yourself. All you need is C D G and a tune. Have fun. :-)

  • the intro is similar to "I´ve got a felling" (!?)

  • thanks send me a link

  • 'I've got a feeling' by Pentangle??

  • Like your voice and the songs you pick. I hope you also have your own material. I'll be checking back to your site often. Good work.

  • Thanks again. Did this seem to fast to you?? It is but JT did it once this way in the past. It really is too fast compared too the original but seems better to me at this tempo.

  • No. I thought it was good.I sang a cappella also. Street corner doo wop.Now at 64yrs. old I listen to all harmony. A very good friend of mine did a version of Joni Mitchell's Woodstock. He did all the vocals and music. It is on my site. Woodstock by Doug Flor. Fantastic arrangement. Give it a listen.

  • At least some people know that this song isn't stolen from the Beatles. I like em and all, but when I sit around and play this song most of my friends think that he just ripped this off from the Beatles.

  • You did this so well! I could listen to you sing all day. :)

  • What is the formation for the chord A7? I can't figure it out for the life of me.. especially each website has a different formation for it!

  • E x

    a 0

    d 2

    g 0

    b 2

    e 0

  • yes it was a george harrison song called Something

  • It's a James Taylor song - he first recorded it at The Beatles' Apple Studios in London. George Harrison heard the opening line and decided to write a song of his own by the same name.

  • It looks and sounds to me that you have the capo on the 2nd fret and you are a whole step down... it sounds pretty good this way. I believe that you are playing in A instead of C aka 1 and a half steps down. Nice cover man!

  • wasn't something the way she moves a line from beatle's something?

  • Hi there, great technique my friend... But sometimes it seems you go faster than needed. It is just a little critique. Thanks anyway. Now it is gonna be easier for me to learn to play it and that is what is great from your work.

    Cheers from Spain!

  • Why do you use capo? you play it 4 tones down from the original anyway. wich meanes you have tuned down your guitar and put capo on second fret, instead of fourth on a standard tuned guitar. Why is this?

  • I have listened to this song for years, it is one of my favorite. You sang it so beautifully. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Bravo, you do the song justice and i must agree with alot of the posts you do have a wondeful voice and great technique, You could take the act on the road, but music moves us all in different ways.

  • good point

  • so kind. i do this to relax.wont quit my day job yet.maybe some day.Very much appreciated.Ignore other reply.meant for a different responder. Thanks again so much. :-)

  • Nicely done. The only suggestion I would have is to articulate the lyrics a little more when you sing them. Great voice!

  • good point

  • Sweeet Baby James how I love him. Sooo Cool

  • thanks

  • DOODE

I forgot to suggest that you should look up Jelly Man Kelly - James Taylor on Sesame Street - in a rotten, hateful world, just James and a bunch of happy kids.

    Just search PooTube -

Jelly Man Kelly (James Taylor on Sesame St.)

  • I HAVE SEEN THAT .Reminds me of simpler times.

  • others like it at a little Friday night fish fry restaurant for fun and a little money to buy picks and strings. Nice job, I may work on this song and put up a Poo Tube and we can compare. Take care, Connecticut, USA

  • LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR POSTING

  • This is nice. I'm 50, played guitar and singing 40 years........ I know you have said you only do this to destress, but you really do have a nice voice and your guitar picking is nice, I have fiddled around with finger picking and have never gotten it, sorto of swiped Neil Young's stab and slash with a pick method, it works for me. There are some really nice little combo amps today that have two channels, one for a mic and one for (in your case) guitar and you could perform this song and

  • thanks.

  • wonderful.

  • thanks

  • im flattered. I do hve an amp.I can barely do this when the family is asleep. My BIG joke is that I wear clogs so I dont waste time taking shoes on and off. Besides , a lace might break. Now there is TIME a crisis. I'd have to buy laces. :-)...

You inspire me to play out sometime and I bet I WILL.THANKS A GAIN.

  • Real nice voice and superb playing!

  • flattered coming from a professional like yourself. i just do this to destress. Others enjoyment is a bonus .thanks again.

  • You, are very much welcomed!

  • Great playing and voice.

    -Steven

  • thanks.

  • Great work!!!! I am going to practise this one, but I am facing some troubles with the pattern...any tips??

  • pretty explicit from the video. If you can just use audacity free ware . download the wav file (real player and superc freeware).Or just record the music and open it with audacity or any software that lets you slow the tempo way down but not the pitch. Just tryit reall slow one note at a time. The nicest part is the two finger chord slide up and down (is it Am7). Im not up on theory. BasicALLY DO THE CHORDS .THE REST IS FILL .\

  • Beautiful version. What a voice. Thank you for this post. :)

  • too kind.thanks.

  • Nick Drake meets James Taylor???

  • thank you

  • thanks

  • great voice man!

  • thanks

  • amazing man !!!!!

  • thanks much

  • Learned more from this close-up than watching Master James. Thanks. Nicely played

  • thanks.reminds me to show the actual fingering with the video for instructional purposes .will keep in mind.

    :-)

  • Sir, the time you spend in practice is obvious. You make that look so effortless. Nice job. I hope I will be able to that half as well. It's one of my wife's favorite songs and I want to learn to play it.

  • It sounds harder than it is to play. I sent you a note and emphasized some things in this songs description and my channel.read both.Just get free ware to record it then slow tempo without pitch.youll get it. :-)

  • OMG! That's my wife's favorite song and now because of you I may finally be able to learn. I just hope I can figure the chords the changes are so fast. I even bougth the sheet music but it didn't help like seeing someone do it. Awesome job! Thanks so much.

  • dude thats awesome you sound like James Taylor with Nick Drakes voice good combination

  • so kind of you.thanks.Glad I can share my music and people can enjoy.thanks again.

  • nice one

  • thanks.

  • You sound really great. I enjoyed your singing and playing. Thanks and keep on keeping on.

  • thanks.

  • Think you could give me a chord progression? I can't tell just by looking or listening =( I blame tabs.

  • Hey, your singing and playing sounds as good as James Taylor! I'm a big JT fan, and I really like what you are doing here. *****

  • Way too kind.Means alot from someone with as excellent a voice, harmony and production talents as you et al.

  • SLOW DOWN!!!!!

  • you are right it is fast. See helixjames comment below, however. He has quite an experience with JT stuff. JT did do this fast at one time. I don't listen to the original so my playing drifts. I am not trying to duplicate JT but you remind me to be sensitive to the audience. I could try a slower version one of these days. Thanks .

  • Good. I like your raw acoustic covers verry much, pure and simply. Bravo*****

  • thanks.should try to keep things more simple

  • No, keep going as yourself wish. I was simply told personnal thoughts. It's my own personnal taste (bare guitar & voice)but I know that you like to ad some reverb and back vocals. The most important things to me is to do what you like to accomplish yourself if that. Keep going my friend.

  • thanks. PS if you know any sopranos who like this genre send them my way.thanks again.Positive feedback is encouraging re more raw solo.will keep in mind.thanks again. See you in cyberspace cybersong:-)

  • Abosolutely excellent. great job....i almost like to listen to ur version as much as jt's.....good, good stuff!

  • very kind of you thank you :-)

  • !!!!!French!!!!

  • thank you very much

  • !!!!!Franchement c'est tres bien, meme magnifique!!!!!

  • thanks for help. on the tuneing

  • will send a separate note

  • is this in a regular tuneing? Or are you just very low tuned? thanks

  • Regular tuning but maybe two halfsteps down to help me hit the high notes. wiil send separate message to you.

  • oops.maybe not tuned down since I was capoing up??

  • favorited. 5 stars. this song is amazing and you have done it a great justice. i only noticed a few different things with your voice, but that is what sets it apart. keep up the great work man. God Bless.

  • thanks.

  • Beautiful!!!

    I love it!

    (Victor from Moscow)

  • thank you. Doing this A friend of mine is working on getting his Russian friend to translate some of your songs. I particularly enjoy the video that shows the right and left hand of the guitar. If my friend has questions I will forward them along. :-)

  • Nice. and instructional.

  • you've got the voice for it. From a JT fan.

  • nice voice... bit like Nick Drake :)

  • thanks

  • don mclean IMHO

  • Actually JT's first recording of this song was on the Flying Machine album...and it was at a tempo about this pace.

  • So i put a faster version on recently feeling like i must have done a poor job. I dont like the latter and will delete it.This does sensitize me to tempo which i have not paid much attention to.I guess some people want the piece to sound close to the original.that is not usually my intent but now i see how it is important to think about.

  • thank you for giving me the link of jt doint it even faster OH JT GURU/HISTORIAN.Now I dont feel weird that I like it faster. Seems better to me that way.People can ask you helixjames for the link since i can t put it here.thanks.

  • Actually, you could put it in your description section up at the top right. That website has rare videos and rare mp3s. I worry that it may be pulled at anytime due to copyright infringement, like how some videos were pulled from YouTube. The site link is given credit on some of the "borrowed" clips here.

  • thanks

  • you have a beautiful talent. Keep it up man.........

  • thank you

  • sorry about the tempo. Didn't realize it. am just starting to explore this medium.will keep practicing to keep closer to the original whenI can

  • Good job. I have always liked this song and it was one of the first I learned. Never did get the base part down but seeing you do makes me realize what I was doint wrong. Only thing I would say is to slow the tempo down. Keep playing!!!!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! I LOVE THIS SONG!

I really appreciate that you showed the fingering, because I've had a hard time finding understandable tablatures for this song... Thank you! You play wonderfully! Perhaps abit fast but great nonetheless! :-)

    5 stars! :-)

  • i agree

  • I like to capo where my voice works best.

    Anybody else??

  • should be noted, to play in the same key as James uses, capo 3 instead of 2, and slow it down, but it's good and helpful for sure.

  • Love it :-)

  • no problem. My plAYING IS PRETTY SIMPLE AND SO MOST OF JT STUFF IS BASIC.FOR THE HARMONY STUFF ITN HAS BEEN EASIER TO JUST UPLOAD THE AUDIO WITHOUT VISEO.WILL KEEP YOUR COMMENT IN MIND RE HELPING FOLKS LEARN STUFF

  • Thanks! I am learning to play this and this video was very helpful.
