I understand your opinion. But I believe that 'revising/rewriting' songs (as you call it), does not take that much less effort - if the sophistication of each version and the differences between the versions and the original are to be taken into account.
We can't really call Rico's version a cover, can we? I think 'revising' songs as you call it takes some degree of talent as well. And for all it's worth, the 'revision' was probably duly sanctioned anyway. Just my thoughts. ^^

If you've ever professionally translated a work in one language to another then perhaps you would get a sense of what I was trying to say. But song-writing is a very murky place in terms of giving credit to those who deserve it. I'm not a rabid fan of Mr Blanco but I'm trained in linguistics/stylistics and given the time perhaps I can analyze Mr Blanco's songs and figure out this "international" sound you are talking about. I would withhold judgment until then.

They use the song either for commercial or promotional tours. It is a commissioned song. It has to be exactly how the buyer wants it. It's a song for Close Up. Original is Hindi and 2 English versions. Isa na dun kay Rico! And Of course it's an English song, hence the American sound. Alangan naman gawin niyang tagalog accent.

hehe, mukhang malabo pa rin sayo tol. ipinasulat ulit sa kanya yung kanta using lyrics na conventional unlike sa original na parang gibberish lang. so in essence, rewriting of the song then is instructed, and therefore SHOULD carry the overall tone/melody/feel of the original close up song. talagang magtutunog "original" yung come closer kasi nga pinalagyan lang sa kanya ng lyrics yung melody. it is therefore not a ripoff as you were suggesting.

Yung may mga issue jan sa melody "allegedly" sounding like somebody else's song, dun kayo sa originial singer ng song na to magreklamo. The music of this song was written by an INdian singer. Rico was commissioned to make a new arrangement and to re-write the lyrics.

I understand your opinion. But I believe that 'revising/rewriting' songs (as you call it), does not take that much less effort - if the sophistication of each version and the differences between the versions and the original are to be taken into account.
We can't really call Rico's version a cover, can we? I think 'revising' songs as you call it takes some degree of talent as well. And for all it's worth, the 'revision' was probably duly sanctioned anyway. Just my thoughts. ^^

@syliastingray24 yeah youre right sir, it is a talent in itself. infact, he seem to be revising so many foreign songs in the past, like songs by Coldplay and U2. and i must admit, hes doing a pretty darn good job. all of his songs sounds like international songs..

@syliastingray24 yeah, thats a talent. And now its a given: RIco Blanco has a talent in REWRITING existing foreign songs...
now that we have established that, who can prevent him for doing the same style of songwriting over and over again. So this means it is highly probable that he has been doing this REWRITING-style ever since.
So I believe this is the final evidence as to why all of Rico's songs sounds so INTERNATIONAL...he merely rewrites other songs...Thats not SO GENIUS afterall....

If you've ever professionally translated a work in one language to another then perhaps you would get a sense of what I was trying to say. But song-writing is a very murky place in terms of giving credit to those who deserve it. I'm not a rabid fan of Mr Blanco but I'm trained in linguistics/stylistics and given the time perhaps I can analyze Mr Blanco's songs and figure out this "international" sound you are talking about. I would withhold judgment until then.

The PISO para kay NOYNOY is a huge hypocrisy. Ang mga Cojuangco ay mga oligarchs, the perennial land lords who enjoy luxuries poor people can only dream of, and yet heto sila, nagda-drama na kailangan ang piso ng mga mahihirap.
Tamaan sana sila ng kidlat. Ang kakapal ng mukha. Ibenta nila ang Hacienda Luisita via the Land Reform kung gusto nila ng pondo, para kahit papaano, magkaroon na nang hustisya ang mga magsasakang pinatay at inaapi hanggang ngayon.

Dean, Ako rin I'd like to see Hacienda Luisito turned over to the farmers. kaya lang I don't think it will be easy for the cory cojuangco family to convince everybody in the family. Tingin ko Cory time pa gusto ng ipamahagi nina Cory ang Luisita pero alam mo na, di lang sila ang Cojuangco clan. Most of the time di alyado ang mga kapamilya ni cory sa pulitika nila ni Ninoy. .. kay Eduardo Cojuangco palang malaking hidwaan na, eh yung iba pa.... Actually the Cojuangco family skirted around the law during the time of Cory. Besides, they are co-owners of that property, if Cory's family, particularly Noynoy who has political ambitions is truly sincere about being pro-poor, dapat noon pa, when Cory was president, or when Noynoy was a Tarlac Congressman, they should have distributed their share already. For the record, ang share nila Noynoy ay almost 1000 hectares. Just imagine kung gaano kadaming magsasaka ang makikinabang diyan.

Oh wow, I never, in a million years thought that I would agree with anything that you say.But, with this ABS-Noynoy thing. I agree coz I've noticed it, too.
ABS CBN has turned into the Noynoy-Mar campaign machine. There seems to be an intentional block of exposures in the news dept, of the other presidentiables especially erstwhile survey leader Manny Villar.
Shame on ABS for getting too political. Whatever happened to fair and neutral media network?

Pinoy Bhoy, I share the same observation, the relief operation has been a two edged sword. The networks are capitalizing on the moment, making the relief efforts a merchandizing mechanism for their brands. I find this very distasteful. At the same time, they have provided an alternative channel of distribution and a center for people to send in donations. Lousy lang that they're capitalizing on it. As for Noynoy's yellow can, you have to know that it's the urban poor's initiative and not Noy's.

Ok granted di nga ito kay Rico, kase nga commercial to ng Close-Up, anung masama kung ereaarange niya na mas magaapeal sa middle class, eh yun ang target market ng produkto. Hindi yan pang album, binayaran yan na commercial. Dn't get me wrong pinoybhoy, 80s din ang roots ko pero u have to know that music has greatly evolved and at the same time the framework ng pop scene ngayon is the alternative sound of the 80s. di talaga maiwasan lumabas ang influence ng dekada sa tunog ngayon. Wag talangka!
