a lot of the time its the games engine and the way the game works that you want it to be displaying a solid 120 fps, even if the monitor is only actually gonna show you 60fps on your screen the timing of the game engine itself can be tied to the frame rate, there are plenty of videos showing what happens to the physics within cod game engine at higher frame rates, so there certainly is an advantage in some games.
yes when it makes your reactions quicker and changes the dynamics of the games engine it is fully worth 100+ fps, only if the game engine is designed to be locked at 60fps (for example) and there are no added benefits is it pointless.
a lot of why i owned online was having a high fps versus people with junk pcs barley getting 18 fps, nothing replaces skill however and for the $ i would rather a mid range system it just makes more sense. the last 3 pcs i have built have been AMD/ATI.

And anyone who believes you need to invest that much is also a fool. i7 systems beating AMD in all benchmarks should not cost you more that $250 over the AMD system. Intel is not stable overclocked I have seen more bad events with water cooled OC'd Intels then OC'd AMD's but stock yes Intel is better ... i just dont feel like paying 6x the price for 2x the processor when i can overclock.

Yea trifire is like trisli, you do know that 3x 4890s scale better than 3 gtx 280s. ive seen some people with 4x 4890s watercooled but none have amd cpu. ALL that i have seen with quadfire 4890s have a corei7 965 extremely overclocked. They dont even bother using watercooling for the cpus, they do phase cooling which is around 800usd.

So if you have a top end GPU and a decent dual core from Intel or AMD you can pretty much game without the need to splash on high end Intel processors that cost a kidney. It's already been sold a little bit, I guess some retailer got some early or something. They've had plenty of details on it since December.
Man it's going to be expensive though, almost no one will really need it.
Still, a processor with six cores and 12 threads with each going as high as 3.6 GHz is pretty neat.

@Bob8673 not necessarily, there are some decent processors. Over clocking will also help. Intel is not stable overclocked I have seen more bad events with water cooled OC'd Intels then OC'd AMD's but stock yes Intel is better ... i just dont feel like paying 6x the price for 2x the processor when i can overclock.

nah its like trisli, 3 radeon 4890s in crossfire is called trifire :D. U Can do 4 4890s but you need a big case and a motherboard that has 4 pci express slots. But if u gona use 4 4890s u need like a 1200w psu, a 1kwatt psu wont cut it. It might but ehh if ur going to overclock thne no.

Yea trifire is like trisli, you do know that 3x 4890s scale better than 3 gtx 280s. ive seen some people with 4x 4890s watercooled but none have amd cpu. ALL that i have seen with quadfire 4890s have a corei7 965 extremely overclocked. They dont even bother using watercooling for the cpus, they do phase cooling which is around 800usd.

i7 are for hardcore enthusiasts who prefer fps above 60, while the phenom ii users are for users that are on the budget but still get decent lagless framerates so there. i7 kicks phenomii on the benchmarks but you can save alot of cash when you buy amd.

Games can barely use dual core. Most games rely on GPU. So if you have a top end GPU and a decent dual core from Intel or AMD you can pretty much game without the need to splash on high end Intel processors that cost a kidney. Stop saying i7 is from the future. It's not future proof when things can change in a year and it might not have a new technology introduced 6 months later after a processor is released.

The thing is AMD is really focused on Games while Intel more on multitasking purposes, With a Dragon platform, say a Core2duo E8500 is awesome for Crysis at 200$ but you can get a Phenom II 940 for the same price and have an even better gaming experience AND multitasking experience!!
get a GX for 130$ or FX for 150 around there and a 4870 then you're good to go!
i have a 8750 X3 Phenom first gen + 48701Gb + 4Gb (800mhz) and i can play Crysis at excellent settings with decent framerates!

Lol, haha. Indeed it can. Specially in gaming. Q9550 @ ~ 3.6 GHz is better, or as good as stock i7 940. But, i7 is better for multitasking, and futured games which uses L3 cache, and fully 8 cores.

What for a AMD propoganda the corei7 920 cost only 270€ and the Mobo 180€ from assrock for example. You dont have to buy the extrem edetion from intel. A single 920 is still better than a phenom in the mist part.
