That looked so good and I am not even a vegetarian. I dont know about you guys but here in Florida fruits and vegies are pricey., and it is unfortunate because that looks like a great meal for a week night
Can you do New Years and or Christmas part decorations?
I know it's not totally that time yet.
Buuuut. I'm away at school, not going home for Thanksgiving (totally depressing) and I'm having a New Years or Christmas Party with my friends and family when I get home.
Tip for things to go smoothly: Go with the flow! One of my favorite Thanksgivings was when the family van broke down on our way to grandma's and we waited at a gas station through dinner and had nachos and other convienence store items. Thanksgiving isn't about special food, it's about special people enjoying food together :D
Isn't the difference between vegan and vegetarian eating not eating just the meat part (animal is dead) versus not even eating product (animal still lives)?
@whynotlarene I don't understand the "animal still lives" comment. Cows only make milk because they are pregnant, after the calf is born it is seperated from it's mother slaughtered for veal. Dairy cattle also have a high risk of becoming downer cattle who are so sick they cannot walk or stand and they are often dragged and tortured into the slaughterhouse. Dairy cattle still die, I guess some ppl believe they had a better life because they lived longer? More like 'suffered' longer.
Sounds like you understood it to me ;) I'm not saying anything about eating this or that or anything inbetween is right or wrong or anything, I just know there is a difference in the terms when it comes to some peoples dietary wishes. "luvminmuzik" worded it better.
I'm fairly sure you could use soy milk and biscuit dough to make this a vegan dish and just skip the egg wash because all it really does is make the top crust crunchier.
LOL I noticed that too, I think she meant like, ridiculously awesome, or something to that extent, but yea I agree it was a little off setting without the awesome. :P
We have a mixed thanksgiving. I am vegan so when we go to my mom's there is vegan and omni food. I am a baker so this year I am making a vegan pumpkin cheesecake and pumpkin pie...I also always bring my boyfriend's mom's red rice to the meal!
That looked really good. I think I might have to make some for Thanksgiving, or maybe Christmas. :) With Corinne working the camera, I sure hope you guys saved one for her.
i like to make my stuffing with packaged stuffing and adding in all the usual yummy suspects to make it interesting. Then I bake it in cupcake tins with the foil cupcake papers. This way everyone gets their own individual serving of stuffing and they dont have to fight over who getts the yummy crispy edges. I call them "Stuffin' Muffins"
I'm getting ready to post a pic of the maple brown sugar pumpkin caserole that I just made tonight. I'll probably post the tute as well. It turned out great! Loved the new episode!
Looks great! I'm in charge of making a few dishes for Thanksgiving this year... I may add this one in, if I can find enough cups/mugs/bowls for 12 people! :P
Find the "vintage" type dishes at your local American Red Cross Center, Goodwill, or Salvation Army outlet. You'll be surprised how formal you can dress your table for very little money.
A way to make your guests feel like part of the family or that they helped with the cooking, ask them to either help set the table or clean up afterwards. I find this a useful tip during any major holidays.
@vintage007 The Threadbanger people are in the US and our Thanksgiving is next week. It would have been nice if they would have done some of this earlier for Canadian viewers though.
Yeah, in Canada, Thanksgiving is in October... I thought most Canadians were aware that it's different in the US, though. I certainly am. Let's just hope vintage007 was having a little brain fart...
There are lots of great alternatives. =) Soy milk, Rice milk, Almond milk, Hemp milk etc. Or just omit it all together. I am sure it will still be super yummy with a mushroom/veg broth instead. Don't forget to omit the egg for the pastry as well. :)

that egg timer is AWESOME!

I think the milk spoiled the vegetarian aspect of the recipe.
uniqueedgings 2 years ago
That would be vegan..
ALY55AaryN 2 years ago 2
The puff pastry and the egg wash would also need to be removed to make it 'vegan'.
I mentioned the milk because it is a significant ingredient in this recipe. That would be like saying a bowl of cereal is also vegetarian.
uniqueedgings 2 years ago
Isn't the difference between vegan and vegetarian eating not eating just the meat part (animal is dead) versus not even eating product (animal still lives)?
whynotlarene 2 years ago
vegetarians dont eat meat.
vegans dont eat meat or use any animal products (meat, eggs, milk, leather)
some vegans are only vegan eaters (so they can still use leather they just wont EAT animal products)
but im pretty sure most of them dont use any animal products at all. :)

1. kale carrots parsnip turnip potato, sweet potato, squash, leeks, peeled, chop, olive oil, salt, pepper, fresh rosemary, whole garlic, +/- vegetable broth, 400 degree oven, 35 minutes, turning occasionally.
2. whole milk, salt, simmer. corn starch. 1/4-1/2 c sherry. fresh rosemary.
3. mix milk with roasted vegetables.
4. pan covered w/ aluminum foil to avoid messy clean up.
5. fill 3/4 crock pot w/ vegetables
6. cover with puff pastry brushed w/ egg whites.
7. bake for 20 mins.
8. eat.
