Memphis has a lot of ignorant, mean people who hurt animals. We need tougher laws in order to put these people away where they belong. We also need spay and neuter laws to prevent so many births. It've very sad to see these little faces. Imagine if you were in that cage, waiting for someone to come to get you so that you could be killed. The south is very behind when it comes to animal welfare.

Its sad to see how these shelters are full of these innocent creatures that sadly end up being euthenized. So please people spay and neuter your animals!

There is not enough space in shelters for the dogs to live. Not when some of them are getting 125 dogs a day. And we can't let them run loose because they would breed out of control and be a hazard. We have no good choices.

Those who love dogs have to fight against puppy mills and irresponsible owners and encourage potential owners to ADOPT their dogs rather than buy them.

There are zillions of good dogs in shelters. It's up to people to step up to the plate.

@morsal120 Shelters aren't meant for animals to live in forever. They can go kennel crazy after a certain amount of time, wouldn't you? Being in a cage for the rest of their lives in no way to live and its to stressful with all the noises and smells of the other animals. Shelters are there to house an animal in hopes of them finding a real home. But unfortunately there just arent enough homes for all of them.

trying to type through the tears is extremely hard. next dog i get will be from a shelter. Although i am certian my oscar came from a mill, we got him at a puppy store and he was very sick. Little did i know that 99% of dogs at pet stores come from mills, what breeder would give up a dog? NONE! I treat my dog like he is my child, because he is, pets have feelings too, they hurt just like we do. Please adopt a pet, yes it is nice to have a puppy but these dogs need love too.

RxRep, I know it really isn't your intention, but NO ONE should look at adult dogs as a second rate adoption decision. Adult dogs don't require as much care as a puppy, an adult dog is done growing, they're less likely to chew, more likely to be housebroken and can be trained. Adult dogs can fit in with a family (especially a busy one) a bit quicker than a puppy. Nothing wrong with an adult dog. My pound puppy came to me a year old adult.

I don't understand why people fear the larger dogs, it's usually always the smaller breed of dogs like poodles,terriers and chihuahuas that try to bite you. I have nothing against these smaller breeds the point is that it's the way an animal is treated that determines how that animal will turn out. Please spay or neuter your pet if you are thinking of getting a cat or dog try your local shelters and give an innocent animal a chance for a good home.

It is true that people are at fault for not taking responsibility for their dogs. But the only reason that they don't is because the laws don't make them. Also they feel free to do whatever they choose to animals because they know that they can throw them in the trash and mentally sick people that work as Euthanasia Technicians will kill them with joy. We've had two dogs from a shelter and my next dogs are also going to be from a shelter. They do come with issues, but it's really easy to get them back to their happy selves. All you need is consistency and lots of love and bingo! you've got yourself a wonderfull dog. Don't buy a dog - ADOPT!!!!!!!

When I finally finished sobbing, I hugged each of my own rescue dogs and thanked God for the hard work these special people do to bring these pets in need to our attention. I do have a success story: I rescued my dog Moxie from a shelter in Alabama and am so grateful for what she has added to my family and my pack. Why did I rescue from the south when I live in Pa? Because a soul is a soul no matter what the geographics are. I just hope I can afford to soon adopt a few more . . .

I have a syberian husky that is almost like a perfect twin of that looking with those beautifull blue eyes... She was found by a river skinny and cold with no more than 3 months old. She is now well fed and taken care of, and I love her! If it is it's reincarnation, it was almost lived twice, but this time, little old "luna" hot luckier.

It breaks my heart to see these animals put down. And some people would say its just a dog, etc. But they need dignity like we do. The problem is not enough people will get their animals fixed. It's really not expensive and some shelters provide free spay/neuter. (Yeah, duh! did they not know that??)I also think because there are too many urbanized areas and not enough room for dogs to live in the wild like they really should.

I am going to try not to be offended, the south is not the only place where animals are neglected, abused, or left off... I got my Beau from a shelter in the NORTH. Why include "south" in your tags? That is just wrong.

I do rescue specifically from the southern states. All of these dogs are dogs that were euthanized in shelters in the south. That is why I have those tags.
