I remember the gig I went to in 2006, Vinnie was doing his thing tossing his guitar in the air and didn't catch it and grabbed one of the MANY lined up at the edge of the stage and kept going. It was amazing!
We have to begin in all seriousness - without the embedded pride that we attach to defining ourselves according to these foolish things, as in "I am a Brand New fan" etc - what am really getting out of this?
What is really to be gained by this sound and angst as performed by these angry people? How do we define ourselves? How have we sunken so low as a culture?
@PJSnodgrass: What is to be gained by this sound and angst performed by angry people? Really? Really? It speaks to people that are angry and angst filled such as myself. Some people like the mind numbing sound of country, some people like the asinine lyrics and ripped off melodies of rap and hip hop.
Not everyone can be enlightened like you and listen to smooth jazz in your hipster coffee shops sipping on a drink I won't even attempt to pronounce.
@ircphoenix we have as our modern prophets Jim Morrison and our modern gods industry executives. Can't we see that this is all just a highly contrived manipulation of youth for a few men to make money. If a person values their free will and ability to make choices they should begin looking beyond the surface of these things. When will we begin to look hard at these things and be no longer pleased with such simple and gross emotion? We are too easily pleased - and many of us don't care
@PJSnodgrass You speak so confidently, as if you all you say is fact. I'm sure you feel smart as well. Well, please remember that taste in music is a matter of opinion. If you think its garbage and others think it is gold who are you to say, that no one can enjoy this if I can't. I have no angst or anger and I love this music. And besides, even if I didn't like Brand New's music, when was our culture so high and mighty that simple yelling could bring it down. If you ask me our culture needs work
@mattnjeffproductions No one ever went broke underestimated the intelligence of the american public.
Its high time we starting doing some revolutionary changes in our selves and in our society and government and laws before we find ourselves performing forced changes. This kind of music contributes to the deadened and sleeping mind of man that we begin to tolerate more lurid and gruesome forms of "entertainment" from one sinking level to another. Will someone actually admit to this?
@PJSnodgrass All the while the leaders and men in power can move about doing their sordid business and create contrived and captivating laws because we, as a people, are dumbfounded with entertainment and sleeping. We should be storming wallstreet with pitchforks right now. It is a few men that have caused the downfall of many and it is not right. But we didn't notice - we were too busy watching youtube.
@mattnjeffproductions and by the way, when did confidence become a negative trait? Keep the transparent arguments and stereotyping out of replies. I want someone to give me a thoughtful, insightful answer to these things. Not simply defending their sources of pride (as I said in the first comment).
"The best lack all conviction while the worst are full of passionate intensity." Our culture could be "high and mighty" if we had the courage and conviction to realize our ideals.
@PJSnodgrass these replies are not taking this seriously - without resorting to adhominem without defending things that aren't worth defending we need to take a hard look at our culture, our beliefs, and the things we are willing to defend.
While I admit that music is a taste our taste in music (and other things) reflects the capacity of our ability to appreciate what is aesthtically excellent and the American culture for the most part is on a low level that needs to be educated.
@PJSnodgrass don't we get it? These things are acting as a magicians trick - all our attention is focused on one hand while the other is busy doing all the work. Which is to say, we are entertained to death and have lost a sense of obligation to each other and country. We are content to let a few greedy men in high places run things for us because politics are equally entertaining as youtube and tv. We must do something - I'm not going to stand for it
@PJSnodgrass really?HAHAHAHAH You have changed the subject completely and made an argument or a deep in thought discussion rather, about something quite menial. On Many of your points, I agree. However, I was simply saying music is in taste and most people today do not listen to this band. Let our society takes its course. Why must we fix everything we do not like? Have a nice life bro ; )
Haha wow that was an awesome video! Well done!! This looked like a super fun show. I saw them at the Grog Shop in Cleveland and they signed my shirt :]!
two things... i know everyone loves the guitar throw, but shortly after brad chucks his drum sticks way up which i know isnt as cool, but is still pretty sick that he catches them perfectly.. and secod, i love how the always slow down the outro and make it WAYYY immense in this song live
i met him outside a show one time in cleveland, i was sorta weirded out cuz i was taller than him, but he was the coolest, i told him hes the only reason why i play geetar
the bit at 3.15 a\t the show was so good, i just looked over and saw his guitar a couple of meters above him, it could ahve gone terribly wrond though
