Actually, Marvels Black Panther appeared in 1966 (Fantastic Four #52) and wouldnt gain his own title until 11 years later (how's that for affirmative action?). Followed by DCs Black Lightning and Marvels Luke Cage.
lol im wit u on tha it wusnt so postive cuz it jus makes us luk like druken cursin black pple n doin that as a frst "black superhero" they culda done alot betta wit dat n wusnt tha frst hero Static Shock..u nko that wus a gud show til they canceled it i wus about like ima say giv or take 8-9yrs canceled dat not cool...
You apparently didn't see the transformation at the end. Further, what is it with you people saying "Blank man"? That guy was a quasi-retarded computer geek who used a kitchen utensils and an orthopedic boot as his weapons against crime. The guys own brother was embarrassed of him.
Hancock was this and Hancock was that... it's sad how all of you missed the whole point of the realness Hancock showed... how would you feel being the only one with powers, expected to save everyone, and not knowing who you are or where you came from. He wasn't even homeless... did you even watch the movie? I know the trailer wasn't the best but it was his home. Alcoholics (most) drink to dull the pain and to forget problems. The cussing, that makes you a bad person? Hero, not first, but a hero!
Hey, by the later part of the movie Hancock gets it together. The whole point is that he is a loser at the beginning, but if you saw the movie, you know that Hancock got it together by the end. That is the beauty of it, he straightens up!
Hahaha I thought Hancock was good cause it made us laugh, but alteast it is a step ya know? Maybe in a Hancock sequel, he won't be a drunk anymore! Yea, I don't even know who Blankma is, see that is the thing. It is a step and Hancock was super funny!
put race to the side for a second...what hero do you know has a completely perfect life? just about every hero had a fucked up past lol...hancock, unfortunately couldnt remember his past lol...BUT at least he was a GOD and not a SLAVE..thats a plus! you dont hear about too many black people being depicted as GODS because america wants them all to be WHITE! VOTE OBAMA!
One of the many reasons I think marvel comics is/was the shit. Black Panther was the first black superhero with his own book and that was way before I was born (I'm 30 now)
Actually, I just forgot someone. Luke Cage came out a year before Black Panther with the series 'Hero for Hire', so technically he would be first with powers.
But yeah, Marvel was decent at one point, it's just a shame not anymore.

I have to correct you on that one: HANCOCK was good, but he wasn't the first black superhero, nor was it BLANKMAN. Check LOBO #1-2 from Dell Comics.

Actually, Lobo from Dell Comics would be the first hero. Or, if you want to get technical, Black Panther would be the first black hero with powers.
