All Maury has now is " Who your baby daddy? " :( Sucks, Really Really Sucks!! >:( When the 2000's first came about, the TV shows & game shows weren't bad, now, they've all gone down the tube totally! :( Yeah, the background music while they were thinking was Great! ...So was that "mystery" music they played when they gave the person extra time to think of the answer on Tic Tac Dough. Legendary stuff! lol
@tpir1972 -- He did better, but he did have his share of mistakes. For example, in this video, after the woman answered the 7-point question, when Maury asked the guy how many points he wanted to go for, and the guy replied "7 points", Maury said "Another 7-point question", thereby accidentally telling the guy that the girl had already gone for 7 points.
Why do they offer the same question at the same point value to each contestant? You'd think that they would swap the first question out and replace it with a different question worth the same amount of points.
@FutureNewsAnchor Because they can. That's the idea. The other contestant has no idea the question that was just asked of their opponent. That way, it's impossible to say one person got a more fair question than the other for the same points.
@GenghisWanghis It's not a "where", it's a "what." It's a vitamin tablet people used to take, and in the 50's they made an elixir that was supposed to give you a boost of energy, kind of like taking a Red Bull nowadays.
@themurph2000 i was saying it more sarcastically, like, "this isn't really 21, geritol isn't plastered over all angles of it." i suppose i should have said "where are the geritol ads?"
I absolutely LOVED the theme music of this show!!! The first couple of shows had a live orchestra play the theme as the players go to the isolation booths. I loved it!
I tried out for the show. (probably was at the Chicago tryout the same day as the guy, Roy.) I was surprised I passed the written test, then I won my practice game, which only lasted 2 rounds. I guess I didn't look enthusiastic enough or something. That or they figured they didn't need two very large guys from Chicago, and Roy photographs better.
for the second question when the guy says, "I want a 7 point question" the host says, "Oh, another seven..uhh I mean a seven point question"...cuz the girl had also wanted a 7 pt. question
He could have but didn't. He didn't know she already reached 21. That's the idea of the show: you have to decide whether to risk the "harder" question or not.
@Hondo20132 i rewound it a bunch, he didn't even ask him what he's wager, he just said that she had 21 points... maybe there's a rule, than if someone is t 21, and you aren't at least within 6 points at that time, then you lose, otherwise i have no clue
No, it's just like they described. When you're on a stage and the lights shine on you, you can't see anybody behind the lights. They probably do something like that during those Texas Hold-em poker tournaments they have on ESPN.
Though the one thing that bothers me of Twenty One is that the whole rule change thing during the season, since it's NBC's habit of changing the rules midway like on 1 vs. 100. But all in all, it's once of the best.
Yeah, but it was only about how much money you made. It wasn't like they changed the rules of the game. (other than stopping the game after round 2, but that was supposed to be in there from the get-go.)
From what I heard, it did very well in the ratings...but NBC cancelled it anyway, because it wasn't good enough to beat Millionaire. :P TV execs can be so stupid sometimes.
At least this show was more thrilling than Millionaire, because though I don't mind Millionaire much, it's starting to get boring, esp. considering that GSN is over-promoting it.
And on top of that, Twenty-One is a head to head competition show, and that made it even more exciting/thrilling.
And the difference between the remake and the original, was that in the remake..NOBODY, not even Maury, has any advance knowledge of the questions..and unlike the other million-dollar quiz shows, there are no computer screens to display the questions or info.

Maury: Everyone this is Jenny! Welcome Jenny to the show! (Applause)
Maury: Now Jenny is angry because this man named Roy Rankin (Boo). So let's bring him out here!
*Screaming* THE RESULTS ARE IN!
Maury: You are NOT the father!
*Jenny goes screaming off stage*
Wait a minute... wrong show.

I remember that when I saw this show as a 9-year-old in 2000, my first statement was, "HEY! THEY STOLE THEIR THEME FROM BOWSER IN THE DARK WORLD!"

The two stage assistants on Twenty One were Mercedes Cornett and Melissa Busby. I often call them "The Two Ms".

I remeber that game show, which was among the games shows that have live background music played by an orchestra. Thanks for the upload!

How do you think Maury did as a game show host then a DNA answerer.
tpir1972 1 year ago
@tpir1972 A lot better, but that's more about how bad his talk show is than how he did on this.

It was a real bummer that it didn't get as popular as Millionaire. I think they should try it again.

@themurph2000 I believe what he was humorously suggesting that they should have had Geritol sponsor the show.
iluvthecompanioncube 8 months ago
@iluvthecompanioncube Probably right.
themurph2000 7 months ago
@GenghisWanghis It was the primary sponsor for a lot of old game shows, and I think the original Twenty-One was among them.

This deserves a revival. I don't want it to take 41 years again!

I think that I could do it almost like the pilot with point values from 1-11.

@Hondo20132 I agree. NBC should have brought back Twenty-One instead of "A Minute to Make a Fool of Yourself".

And bring back this music to the revival. This music was great. Dramatic and epic.

Well, that's the idea with the booths. You don't know your opponent's score. It happened several times in the original and the remake.

And that's, like, the point of the show.

Also, it's weird they didn't give them the chance to stop the game after round two.
