There's an extra dialogue with Atlas if you go down to the sub before you press the button that lets him in. It's not much he just asks you if you can hear his wife and son, you can't, and that's it.

ryan thought ur character was trying to escape after all the shit u did in Rapture so far, he thought u were gunna escape in the sub, and so in turn in destroyed it, atlas just made it sound like he had a family in there..to get ur blood boiling

Also Atlas knew that Ryan was going to blow up the sub. Atlas was just using it as a foil so that he can gain Jack's sympathy and make Ryan even more evil.

Because it's better to make someone do something if they believe in it. It would be difficult for Atlas to "order" and "command" a rebellious and disobedient Jack.

Wait, so did Atlas/Fontaine actually have a family in there? Atlas was a made-up person, so I'm guessing the 'save my family' thing was made up to give an excuse for the player to do what he says and kill Ryan?

But then why did Ryan sound like he caused the explosion and seemed to boast about it over the radio? Also the names of what Atlas said his family were appears in a poster in Fort Frolic - is that real or just an idea Fontaine got for names?

I'm a bit confused...

It was all made up and Ryan was boasting about it because it didn't allow you to go back to the surface to report to your "Government" that he was so worried that you were working for.

I forgot that you were gonna be using that to get to the surface - at first I just thought it was a normal bathysphere used to travel around the city.

But only in my second playthrough a few days ago I noticed it's much bigger and looks different.

rescuing them bares the exact same benefits are harvesting in the long run, but harvesting you miss out on a few extra plasmids.

Tip for the showdown. If you have any proximity mines ( which I do, cause I leave the safes in neptune till after peaches ). lay a couple out there before the switch is hit. where the spider-splicer drops from ( If you don't have telekenesis to throw the barrel ) one on the right path where the gun splicer runs. One in the middle of the canisters and one or two on the way up from the hallway to the sub. The splicers get glitched in the doorway cause they don't go through past the mines.

If there was family in that sub they were murdered by spider splicers, if you look at the top of the sub spider splicers come out the top.
