there is a song about Kirsty Maccoll on our page now. would be interesting to hear what Kirsty Maccoll fans think of it. you can download it free on our Facebook page if you do like it. cheers
I last heard this song in 1983 on NYC's Z-100 with Scott Shannon. The drought is over. Just another case of typical music business crap in which a performer with so much potential is kicked to the curb while songs like "MIdnight At The Oasis" and "Muskrat Love" top the charts.
Kind'a reminds me of performers like Teri Reid- anybody out there have a copy of "Super Lungs"?
Brilliiant my first gig on TOTP, the start of a great friendship with Kirsty later when I immigrated to Australia she wrote "He's on the Beach" my 3 mins of fame. that was 30 years ago and I'm still in love. oh I'm the noisy drummer in green jacketXX
@posnegu If that really is you, you've earned more than 3 minutes of fame - you're one of the luckiest guys alive - a) you've got talent enough to star alongside Kirsty, b) this is a brilliant record in it's own right, c) this will see you famous for all eternity and d) you're playing alongside the main contributor to two of the best pop records of the past 30 years - this - and Fairytale of New York. Not bad for a lifetime's work. RIP Kirsty - Tragically taken from everyone.
@Weston1968 OMG I KNOW I LIVE IN YEOVIL, SOMERSET AND I WENT TO CHEDDAR AND WE WENT TO THAT CHIP SHOP AND THE MANAGER WAS JUST LIKE "HI, IM ELVIS" LOL
Hi my name is Andy and i,m the guy on the front of the record cover, it was great to meet Kirsty and she even put my make up on for the photo shoot, it was a great time. Miss you Kirsty.
Fantastic vocals and a sound that has "classic" written all over it. I discovered Kirsty MacColl for the first time, tonight, thanks to Kim Wilde's new "They Don't Know" cover. I'm looking forward to discovering more of Kirsty's music.
i love Kirsty, multi talented and my kids thought this sing was made up by me, i wish ! I'm trying to work up the courage to sing this at the karaoke. If her mum and kids read this please know that Kirsty is dearly missed and during her lifetime she achieved so much x
Could be wrong on this but I do believe that Billy Bremner (outside of his Leeds, Scotland and Rockpile duties also provided the guitar tracjkfor the Pretenders 'back on the chain gang'
The wonderful Kirsty MacColl and superbly backed by one of the great UK Rock 'n Roll guitarists, Billy Bremner. Billy is as good live as he is in the studio.
The guitar player with the dark hollowbody Giboson (ES-135?) is Billy Bremner. He played on the Kirsty's lp Desperate caracter where this song is (and the counryverson).
Who is the guy playing guitar on the left of Kirsty in the video? Looks familiar but I can't place him. Best look at him is around 27 to 29. Great post.
I do not know why your comment was marked as spam. I always find your comments excellent and informative. People should show respect for other peoples opinions. I like both versions but this one is my favorite.
The lovely and sorely missed Kirsty MacColl with guitar whiz Billy Bremner in tow. It don't get much better than this..

I always think of Terry Pratchet's wizards with a T-Shirt saying "There's a guy works down the chipshop swears he's Elvish"
NoFaithNoPain 5 months ago
@NoFaithNoPain He made that joke in Soul Music.
GeminiSyringe 4 months ago
@GeminiSyringe Thanks, I remember now. I actually was sad enough to translate that into Tolkein Elvish and put it on a T Shirt.

IIRC June 25th 1981. This was Kirsty MacColl's first TOTP live appearence before the 900th, this was the 898th with Simon Bates.

Looks to me to be Billy Bremner who was with Nick Lowe / Dave Edmunds in Rockpile, but I may be wrong........

@1000Magicians You're right on - it is, indeed, Billy Bremmer of Rockpile fame.
tomegee55 1 year ago
@1000Magicians I was just thinking the same myself, and in 81 this would have right up his ally.

@lowemk He is in the Nick Lowe video 'Cruel to be Kind', and he plays the cool little middle eight guitar lead fill. Hope his career went well.
