  • The lovely and sorely missed Kirsty MacColl with guitar whiz Billy Bremner in tow. It don't get much better than this..

  • I last heard this song in 1983 on NYC's Z-100 with Scott Shannon. The drought is over. Just another case of typical music business crap in which a performer with so much potential is kicked to the curb while songs like "MIdnight At The Oasis" and "Muskrat Love" top the charts.

Kind'a reminds me of performers like Teri Reid- anybody out there have a copy of "Super Lungs"?

  • Love Kirsty, she never made a bad record. Time to bring the murdering Dago bastard to book.

  • RIP Kirsty - time for justice Mexico

  • Great song, always makes me smile.

  • TOTP!!!

  • choice....

  • Been singing this song all day! Love it, rip Kirsty x

  • Kirsty Anna MacColl 10 October 1959 – 18 December 2000 -

  • love u kirsty always xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Brilliiant my first gig on TOTP, the start of a great friendship with Kirsty later when I immigrated to Australia she wrote "He's on the Beach" my 3 mins of fame. that was 30 years ago and I'm still in love. oh I'm the noisy drummer in green jacketXX

  • @posnegu If that really is you, you've earned more than 3 minutes of fame - you're one of the luckiest guys alive - a) you've got talent enough to star alongside Kirsty, b) this is a brilliant record in it's own right, c) this will see you famous for all eternity and d) you're playing alongside the main contributor to two of the best pop records of the past 30 years - this - and Fairytale of New York. Not bad for a lifetime's work. RIP Kirsty - Tragically taken from everyone.

  • @posnegu haha well done buddy! i would call you a lucky B. but i guess you know that already lol

  • If you go to Cheddar in Somerset on Cliff Rd there is a Chip Shop called Tuckers & the Manager there is called Elvis!

  • @Weston1968 OMG I KNOW I LIVE IN YEOVIL, SOMERSET AND I WENT TO CHEDDAR AND WE WENT TO THAT CHIP SHOP AND THE MANAGER WAS JUST LIKE "HI, IM ELVIS" LOL

  • Hi my name is Andy and i,m the guy on the front of the record cover, it was great to meet Kirsty and she even put my make up on for the photo shoot, it was a great time. Miss you Kirsty.

  • I always think of Terry Pratchet's wizards with a T-Shirt saying "There's a guy works down the chipshop swears he's Elvish"

  • @NoFaithNoPain He made that joke in Soul Music.

  • @GeminiSyringe Thanks, I remember now. I actually was sad enough to translate that into Tolkein Elvish and put it on a T Shirt.

  • i work in a chippy and i sing elivs in the chippy =]

  • R.I.P Kirsty,thanks for the memories x

  • Fantastic vocals and a sound that has "classic" written all over it. I discovered Kirsty MacColl for the first time, tonight, thanks to Kim Wilde's new "They Don't Know" cover. I'm looking forward to discovering more of Kirsty's music.

  • Thats Billy Bremner !

  • Excellent. Laura

  • i love Kirsty, multi talented and my kids thought this sing was made up by me, i wish ! I'm trying to work up the courage to sing this at the karaoke. If her mum and kids read this please know that Kirsty is dearly missed and during her lifetime she achieved so much x

  • R.I.P Kirsty x

  • ahaha that cowboy hat drives me crazy!!!

  • Could be wrong on this but I do believe that Billy Bremner (outside of his Leeds, Scotland and Rockpile duties also provided the guitar tracjkfor the Pretenders 'back on the chain gang'

    check it

  • How totally great is this?! Now that's what I call a rollicking good time, right down to the shaking piano! I wish I was there.

  • RIP Kirsty

  • That indeed is that great Scotsman Billy Bremner

  • Extremely attractive lady.

  • Bless her ... she looks like a school girl in this !

  • @burnt62

    She was.

  • Billy Bremner played for leeds lol lol lol

  • Lovely, in every way possible.

  • Yes I think that's Billy Bremner, and isn't the tall guy on guitar Bram Tchaikovsky?

  • The wonderful Kirsty MacColl and superbly backed by one of the great UK Rock 'n Roll guitarists, Billy Bremner. Billy is as good live as he is in the studio.

  • IIRC June 25th 1981. This was Kirsty MacColl's first TOTP live appearence before the 900th, this was the 898th with Simon Bates.

  • The guitar player with the dark hollowbody Giboson (ES-135?) is Billy Bremner. He played on the Kirsty's lp Desperate caracter where this song is (and the counryverson).

  • Who is the guy playing guitar on the left of Kirsty in the video? Looks familiar but I can't place him. Best look at him is around 27 to 29. Great post.

  • Looks to me to be Billy Bremner who was with Nick Lowe / Dave Edmunds in Rockpile, but I may be wrong........

  • @1000Magicians You're right on - it is, indeed, Billy Bremmer of Rockpile fame.

  • @1000Magicians I was just thinking the same myself, and in 81 this would have right up his ally.

  • @1000Magicians Yeah it IS Billy Bremner

    Mikey x

  • @1000Magicians Yes it´s Billy Bremner from Rockpile. Great guitarplayer.

  • @1000Magicians Your right it is Billy Bremner

  • @1000Magicians I think you're right, looks like Billy to me too.

  • @lowemk Billy Bremner

  • @lowemk It's definitely Billy Bremner, a vastly underappreciated musician.

  • @lowemk it's Steve Bruce

  • @lowemk He is in the Nick Lowe video 'Cruel to be Kind', and he plays the cool little middle eight guitar lead fill. Hope his career went well.

  • Wish I'd known about you back in the '80"s!!

One of America's great Rock-a-billy artists America never knew - great pity. God bless you Kirsty!!

  • Grazie Laurie.

Brilliant kirsty, but I prefer country version of this.

  • I quite agree Fausto - the country version is more to my tastes as well.....

    Laurie

  • I do not know why your comment was marked as spam. I always find your comments excellent and informative. People should show respect for other peoples opinions. I like both versions but this one is my favorite.

  • Oh yeah, the great Kirsty McColl .. thanks for posting this.
