Marrianne Faithfull is a legend in her own right.Dylan is 2+quite rightly he deservesbe credit4writing this song.
But credit given where credit's due
Equally Marrianne has written a great deal of profoundly wonderful material of her own.As for this particular song, Bob u must agree that No-one ever sang this song as sublimely, cooley, perfectly and utterly meaningfully as Marianne. I say u must agree + i'm sure as u read this, u do. Surely this song was destined to be sang by Ms Faithfull.
this is the best version I believe I have heard.....although, I hear one one a radio that sounded like Janis Joplin, but I searched for the song with her name and it isn't there.
I hope I'm not raining on anyone's parade if I say that I preferred Marianne's voice when it was a soprano. The Byrd's version of this song blows me away!
Marianne's new voice which I've grown to like is at its best in this song, but all the beauty of her folk-pop era voice is gone for sure by this point.
I bought Rich Kid Blues and it's called True for some reason. Anyway..too my point Marianne said in her autobio that she was living on the streets and a guy (Mike Neander sp?) anyway he wanted to record her and she thought he was mad. Anyway she said he put her into a flat and they recorded it and that it was never even finished and recorded on a shoe string ). It's a crucial record being that it's the point where her voice changed. Marianne is my queen. Totes-E.
I just bought a copy of Rich Kid Blues for tracks like this. I think Marianne's voice is quite beautiful on this album can't really understand why it was shelved for so long. This version of Baby Blue has exactly the same prodcution as Mazzy Star's first album which was praised by critics 20years after this was recorded.
This record Rich Kids Blues was recorded when Marianne was living on the streets as a heroin addict. She said she was really bad off when she did this record and it actually wasn't even finished. Anyway it's a great album around the time when her voice began changing in all it went down a full octave. I love you Marianne! Bananas&Oranges-Eric.
What does she look like these days? She was a very beautiful young lady back in the day. I bet she is still gorgeous in spite of her experiences. Experience is just the seasoning of life. Smile I for one would love to communicate with her.
Well what to say , i love Marianne Faihfull .

Didn't Dylan write this about Joan Baez?
voltaire11 2 years ago
The song isn't "about" anything
LeopardFrogPilboxhat 2 years ago 3
Dylan has spoken about this song. It is about his break-up with Joan Baez.
voltaire11 2 years ago
Yeah but he's hardly an authority on his music

Not bad, I like Marianne's voice. But I think it is quite far from Dylan's deep feeling this time...

She changed the lyrics a bit. They make less sense now.
Maybe it was intentional.

Her cover of Dylan's "Visions of Johanna" from the same album is absolutely brilliant. If no one puts it up on YT soon I'll have to do it !!
