Are you sure that is Gregg shorthand? Another shorthand I have heard of in Brazil is the Marón system. Find out if it's Gregg or not from the Gregg shorthand site, shorthandshorthandshorthand(dot)com .
Maybe the shorthand system you are learning is an extremely complicated one! Or maybe the methodology of shorthand teaching your teacher is using is totally inadequate and out of date! Under those circumstances your interest in this particular subject is none! On the other hand, shorthand can be made an intensely fascinating study!

Hi Cathyel! If one gets used to this way of writing from the beginning of the learning (as Laíse did), there will be no problem. On the contrary, the taking down as well as the reading will be much more fluent. In other words, as less space you give among the signs more rapid you will be. It does work! Try it and you will see!
But its a skill that you will keep for life, and that will serve you so much. I darenot question why many more people don't learn shorthand in this day and age of information processing.
It's not *that* difficult -- it's not unlike a giant version of "txt speak". There are a bunch of abbreviations to memorize (in Gregg, around 200) and then the rules for endings and beginnings of words.
I take notes in a mix of Gregg and longhand, and it's way faster than longhand or txt abbreviations. Shorthand is the way to go if you want to write things down as fast as people say them.
super... i like it very much

I know german shorthand for nearly 50 years, but I never was qick enough to
follow a speaker. It`s like playing piano,
you have to train every day!

thank you for your answer. I think, my teacher is rather bad. None of our collegue's group likes that.

She writes the outlines a little too cramped. Give them space, they'll look much more beautiful and legible too.
