@Mitrolaja Those aren't ceramic inserts. Just carbide. The didn't use coolant because it would have made the demo harder to see. Ceramic inserts need a much higher SFM and you would see white hot chips coming off the part as well.
@zazathegreat Some parts are not suitable for casting because it alters the phases and crystal structure of the material, or induces problems by some other means (e.g. altering the dispersion of carbon etc). The SR71 (Blackbird) was an example where the titanium parts had to be forged (bent) into shape, then machined to finish. There are also high mould costs for small runs. The material is not wasted, it goes down the conveyor, into a bin and then the foundries by it back for remelting.

no cutting oil?. sparks from tip inserts, burnishing not cutting.

@314WESTERN Wrong. There are ceramic cutting tools, which can not be cooled, because they would break due to thermal shock.

@Amel3 i saw another maschine at the DMG house expo back in 2011 that did a 15mm cut with 1.5mm/rev, the maschine was a CTX 6600 Delta

As cool as this video is, I'd hate to be the guy filming this. All that screeching from running that big ass thing dry.

This reminds me of high school times when my teacher yelled at us when we took too much material in one time.
