  • These BB videos are great, thanks a million for uploading. Are they by any chance on the RTE compilation of trad Irish music on DVD?

  • @bennevisplace No, these clips are not commercially available.

  • This song makes me shiver. Gives me thrill. My eyes are full of teardrops.

    Memories, sweet warm memories.

  • i wonder what Matt says to Kevin @ 1:52?? :)

  • of course

  • My favorite version of Morrison's jig, nice and fast, every video i watch continues to get better and better, thanks for posting! :)

  • Matt Molloy - an feadóg agus an feadóg mór

Paddy Keenan - na píoba uilleann agus an feadóg

Donal Lunny - an bouzouki, an ghiotáir

Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill - amhránaí, an harpsichord agus an clavinet

Micheál Ó Domhnaill - amhránaí agus an ghiotáir

    Paddy Glackin - an fidil

    Tony MacMahon - an cairdín

  • @printedpaper Actually that's Kevin Burke on fiddle. Paddy was their first fiddler, but Kevin had joined by the time this was produced.

  • As good as it gets

  • Excellent!

    Dayepipes,

They do just Old Hag or this same three tunes in one on the album?

  • You have to wonder how the audience could have sat so still and clapped so politely!

  • just discovering the Bothy Band and Planxty- oh but I have been missing out on some brilliant music 'til now!

  • ya dont know what yer missin

  • is it true that in Ireland, this kind of music is heard all around?

  • Not all around unfortunatley but you will never be too far from a pub that does have a session going on. All depends on what part of the country ur in, Down south west there is an abundance of places.

  • Great band !! Phalaïna

  • I've been playing morrisons jig all these years since then ...

  • That is Triona playing the keys, correct?

  • Why hasn't any one ever told me about the bothy band? I can't believe it!! I am supposed to be doing house work but can't pull myself away from the screen.

  • Hmmm. Buddy Holly digs it. I saw him in

the audience. 1976? Great video & audio

quality! Must be 1st generation recording

    from a TV master vault.

  • Holy crap they're great.

  • no words

  • I am so amazed to find these videos from a time I thought was completely gone and forgotten. The Bothy Band were only together for a short while, but they made a powerful impression at the time. I saw them play at a converted church or whatever, near Trinity College.

  • Great musicians. They play superb together. The change in tempo between the differend tunes is very difficult.

  • I'm not sure it's that difficult at their level. The tunes are all jigs (6/8) and it's just a moderate increase from Old Hag into the 2nd tune, done by Kevin Burke the fiddler alone, and from 2 to 3 little or no increase.

This is the same arrangement as on their "Old Hag You Have Killed Me" album.

  • Sure, at their level nothing is difficult. But for me, as being a starting musician, it is, and I'm sure a lot of people agree with me.

  • Not difficult at all. Thats why its still such a standout piece 30 years later.Dozy plonker

  • Charming!

  • what happens is that the whole crew stop and its left to the fiddler to set the pace increase into tune 2 .. morrisons is just up a little bit on that which I think the pipes take on but only coz they are being heard more by the band I think

  • Great. *****
