Can i use Acetone as a solvent for extracting oil?
Acetone is used in fiberglass boat building,generaly for cleaning purposes.I have used it before removing oil from low grade hash,but it always had a watery residue towards the end of the evaporateing process.I used to remove this with tissue and then smoke the oil that was left.Then someone scared me off useing it.
I learnt on a drugs course that thc in canabis damages serotonin levels in the brain over time, meaning you become reliant on it to feel happy... have i been misinformed?
@blodfyre i would say thc affects serotonin levels, but does not damage serotonin levels. as for being reliant on it, it depends if you are psychologically addicted to it. it isnt physically addictive, but its habit forming. at worst smoking pot is a bad habit. at best it cures cancer. peace

Your brain produces a certain amount of serotonin naturally, when you bring a substance that does a job for your brain, it becomes adapted to it, so when you stop using, it wont immediately and magically go back to producing the chemical, but it will eventually return to normal levels taking in consideration if everything is normal in your life.

@NANDO218 Making it yourself is much safer, easier and more effective. If you were to grow the hemp yourself (recommended) you are looking at about $200-500 including the price of the solvent, rice cooker etc. If you were to buy it from a drug dealer, you would probably be looking at about $1000 just for a pound of low quality hemp. It is slightly costly, but far cheaper than Chemotherapy and radiation, and think of the fact that you are going to be saving your/someone's life.
@ItsTurningGreen002 yes. for now, im going to make some oil by boiling an ounce of good weed with olive oil to give my mother for the meantime. i'll do that until i can grow my own plants to get the pound i need for this concoction. i've never grown weed before so i just hope i get it right before its too late. my mother is in a real condition. hopefully the ounce will slow things down for now until i can grow that stuff. this damn govt almost killed my mother with the chemo!

I love what he is doing but naptha? Naptha itself is toxic and Isopropyl can make you go blind if you ingest enough. In my opinion, butane is the cleanest solvent available as it has a very low reactivity with humans chemically and and boils away at room temperature ( or warm water bath as this should be made OUTSIDE.) Butane just seems much easier to work with and you get a beautiful golden brown oil which I would bet is much more pure than the black naptha oil he makes here. Google BHO :-)

How about using ethanol alcohol? If you use a distilling method you can recycle the alcohol that evaporated away.
