We don't have to tell you, look at history man. Look at the reign of Stalin, the romanian dictaor I can't spell his name, Hitler, Mussolini. Take a look at what to a society when a one-party system takes over goverment
No, I'm not saying that at all, I am saying that a powerful central gov't is very dangerous to a free society and we should be wary of attempts to give the Federal Gov't more power, especially over our medical decisions
did they start out as mass murders? No, they were political figures who upon gaining political power used murder and intimidation to retain and increase that power. They viewed people as objects and as a means to an end.
OMG, don't you know how to read? Did I even mention the Prez.? I did not. You asked what gov't do when they grab too much power. I told you. Never mentioned Obama.Try reading what I write instead of jumping to some stupid conclusion

But the problem is you're making the assumption that he's seeking power as an end in itself and not, you know, the things he actually says he's seeking.
What's hilarious is that you conservatives yelled at him for bowing to the Japanese prime minister. So the guy who bowed to another leader is the guy who wants power to kill people? Really?
I don't want government dependancy. I just want to make sure people don't DIE because they can't pay an insurance bill. i want to drive down costs (because they are simply ridiculous right now!) if there is a way to do that without a big government plan, tell me about it so i can sign up!
If they would allow portability with policies the same way car insurance works - don't tie it to your job. Sometime ago the g'ment decided to regulate health ins and states are regulated as to what they can offer. Open it up, nationwaid. Competition will drive down costs.
A lot of health care costs have gone up because of either frivolous lawsuits or HUGE awards. A little tort reform would go a long way.
What can't they start with just these two things, set up a net for uninsured people,
1. If you want portability, you should be supporting the national health care exchange. (And I agree that employers shouldn't have to supply employee health insurance.)
2. HC policies are not portable across state lines because the states set the minimum standards for policies. A policy in Alabama is cheaper than one in NY because the minimum coverage is lower in Ab.
3. Most malpractice lawsuits happen in STATE courts. What is the federal govt supposed to do about that?
Generally Democrats want big govt. because they believe big govt. is the solution to a host of societal issues and ills. Most Libs and dems agree to this pillar of their belief system.
Obama is ultra left. He not only wants big govt. in place, but also wants the "dependent people" in place to keep his idea of big govt. in place. Dependent persons have no where to go but to the one (person, organization, govt.) that they are dependent for their life substance.
The goal for Obama is to keep his party in power by keeping people dependent on them through the Fed. govt..
As a rule people mostly always support (vote) the people who give to them. This is natural of course.
This all gets back to the adage: 'give a man a fish everyday and he will keep coming back for fish daily, teach him how to fish...' and he is liberated from dependency.
Obama did say he wanted to fundamentally change America. He campaign on it.
I'm not being smart-alec or taking a shot at the left generally.
I'm just taking Obama at his word and making an application based upon the fact that he had the most liberal voting record in the Senate before becoming President.
I always find it amazing when these guys bring up the fact that the top 1% of income earners own 90% of the wealth in the country, and the bottom 40% are so poor that they fall below the income taxation threshold as an argument to hurt Democrats and boost Republicans.
If making as many people poor as possible helps Democrats, then the Republicans are the greatest friends they ever had.
And I won't disagree with you over the Bush economic policy. But I wouldn't call cutting taxes AND raising spending a conservative idea, just a bad one. But I will say that Obama's policies aren't making things any better for me personally.
Well unfortunately this stuff doesn't happen over night. It takes years for economies to turn around. Personally I am thankful that obama efforts have at least brought some stabilization back. The problem is though while the stock market is booming again, the rest of the economy isn't. What we have to realize though is over the last 2 years or so a mini industrial revolution has happened, and many jobs have been shed and companies have becoming leaner. It will never go back to how it was before
@mcv47 The downwards spiral that the country was in over the last year. We have to realize that is never going to go back to the way it was before. The world is a different place today. This healthcare debate is a joke though. Millions go broke over medical bills, yet Obama trying to provide medical service for his citizens is somehow terrible and evil? ??? How can "the greatest country on earth" not be able to take care of its own.
Why aren't those in power working on unemployment? With the regulations put on insurance companies right now, they can only compete in localized areas. CA has like 4 ins companies. As long as insurance is tied to your jobs (thanks to unions), if you lose your job, you lose your insurance. If unemployment were not so high, more people would be working and would have ins. Why don't they fix the little things first instead of trying for a complete overhaul?
But in the process, they are making the rich poorer. Much as you would hate to admit it, a lot of the "rich" are small business owners that provide jobs. The more tax, required health care and other rgulations that get put to these people, the more they are going to economize by hiring fewer people. Large companies also but their option is to send the jobs overseas. Sure, they are all in business to make money but a lot goes to the shareholders that help to fund them.
1. Those are not the 1% I was talking about. The top 1% are generally not small business owners.
2. Supply Side Economics originally worked when the wealthy invested their wealth in American industry, hence the lower capital gains tax rate. Given that the HSI has risen three times faster than the Dow, we're now subsidizing the rich to invest in foreign companies.
3. The top 10% may be owners, but the bottom 90% are the consumer base. If nothing is done to improve their situation, both fail.

If our govt cant be depended upon for war, then neither should they be depended upon for health care. If we trust them in spending trillions for war, then they must be trusted on spending trillions on health care.
Stop the insanity - you cant have your cake and eat it too!
Either the us govt is a failure and can not be depended upon or they can handle the war and health care and other issues.
It's a LOT more palatable to listen to Hatch when you realize -- and this is TRUE -- that as he talks, he's wearing that special Mormon man underwear! Hey, Hatch, you look in a hat and see God lately?!
The real problem is that even the corporatist Republicans have been brainwashed into believing the current healthcare market is "free", and therefore they think THAT'S what a free-market healthcare system looks like. Rather than ask for a REAL free-market system that could work, they defend the status quo. Rather than empowering individuals, they stand up for insurance co's. Just let us Libertarians take your place, GOP. It's obvious you failed.
The Libertarians need to stand with the GOP, as we agree on more than we disagree. However, ur right. If we wanted a free market health-care system, we would toss the insurance companies out and everybody pay for their own treatment. Not only would that lower costs, but we would have a system that actually healed the sick instead of just "treating" the symptoms
Barring the dismantlement of a state, and the reformation of people along genuine principles of freedom of association and the cessation of mindless consent, it is in the interest of the majority to exact whatever concessions ("rights") they can.
Labor laws regarding wages, benefits, protections of employment, etc. are band aid solutions, but do give some relief.
The real solution is in the direction of democratic culture spreading into everything, including workplaces.
Labor laws are killing employment. Minimum wage increases the prices we pay for goods, which works out to less money in my pocket not more, and it devalues the labor of higher paying jobs. The only labor laws we need are safety regulations, so you don't have to worry about getting killed or maimed on the job
dependent on the government? this coming from someone who has been on the public tit for decades! people of utah, please do us all a favor and send this piece of shit to the unemployment line!!
May your wish come true... worth pointing, Both Hatch and Bennett are at risk of losing their jobs. Utah has it up to here with them. Both the left and right see them as huge phonies and liars.
So wait a second he does not want people enslaved to the Government, but approves of enslavement by big coporations? Who do not give a shit about anyone but the almighty dollar. Well do senator you are worth every penny you got from the private healhcare insurance lobbists.
I can't believe he's pulling the old "The poor will be fine when they are all rich" chestnut out of his ass. How's everyone doing in their "Upscale" neighborhoods now?
Now tell us the story again about how your campaign contributions were legal because instead of taking them in your office, you sent a bagman to the street to receive them.
As with everything in the media this is truth mixed with lies coming from what most consider a "Bad guy" so no one believes anything they say. He's part right first of all it's not just the Democrats that want this it's the republicans too they just pretend they don't to keep up the illusion that you have a choice. Second the real reason they want everyone dependent on the federal government is so that they can pull the rug out from underneath us and destroy this country.
probably a year when the richest americans got taxed more than 50% when people could still fraternize and form unions at their jobs, and when rich people understood that an affluent middle class means they make even more money and have more productive workers.
You said going to single payer will decrease innovation and quality. I'm just wondering how so? Single payer is essentially another form of health insurance, and they both do nothing in terms of affecting innovation and quality.
What drives innovation is profit.(most of the time, anyways) ATM, we have a system that profits from treating symptoms instead of curing disease and illness. We would have the same under a single-payer system. You want innovation and quality of care? go to a 2-payer system where everybody pays for thiere own healthcare
Oh god, another Bastiat/Hazlitt fan. At least you didn't quote the broken window fallacy.
But yes, those evil socialist countries stifle innovation. Like Novartis (of Switzerland), GlaxoSmithKline (of Britain) and Sanofi-Pasteur (of France) that brought us H1N1 vaccines in record time only to have wingnuts in America claim vaccines are all just a NWO plot, and refuse to take them.
god forbid I quote actual economists. and besides there are plenty of questions to be raised about the H1N1. And what is wrong with resenting govt making these vaccinations mandatory? It may not be the case right now but it is a legitimate fear.
But it's too bad Americans are so dense/apathetic/uninformed that they don't see that it is so much easier to criticize the side in power than to put forth ideas of your own. Just wait until all eyes are on the republicans and they can no longer blame the dems for everything. The American people are going to be just as pissed, if not more. Then they will elect a bunch of dems again 4-6 years later.
But I don't know. I think America got pretty pissed at the GOP.
Where do libs get off saying cons don't put forth ideas. We do, you all just don't listen because your all mindless slaves to big brother. Instead of spending all you got, running up debt, and taxing the crap out of everyone, we say to cut taxes. Duh! Instead of government run healthcare that can't even run the dmv, we suggested tort reform, and insurance across state lines. That's an idea. Don't kill babies, there's a hint. The air we exhale is "newsflash" good for the environment. Just listen
Ok, yes, we know you have 2 ideas: cut taxes, reduce spending.
The reason we don't listen to those ideas is because for the past 30 years republicans HAVE been cutting taxes (for the wealthiest Americans) and it DOESN'T WORK!!!! It works for the extremely wealthy temporarily, but not for the middle class or the economy as a whole at all.
As for reduce spending, it's kind of hard to do that when you have no revenue coming in and you're starting pointless, never ending wars. Your ideas fail.
Kennedy cut taxes, it ended a recession , increased GDP, and raised Quality of Life. Hoover raised taxes, and we got the Great Depression. Roosevelt increased spending, and the Depression lasted ten years.Reagan cut taxes and ended a recession, reversed stagflation, reinvigorated the economy, and won the cold war. You say our wars are pointless, that's an opinion held by many. We just don't want another Hitler,Stalin, or Mao. There are many who would fill those shoes given a chance.
Clinton? What do you want me to mention? He sold nuke secrets to china for campaign money?
He ignored the problem of Islamic Terror for 8 years? And that "surplus" ur referring to was based on a 10 year economic forecast that didn't take into account market bubbles, which he did nothing to regulate or control. Please, Clinton was an embarrassment.
Who do you suggest run the DMV. And what is it with the complaining about the DMV. I can walk into the one by me right now and get everything done in 20 minutes, that includes taking the drivers test
Dumb idea, cuting taxes has been tried and failed. It's a broken record.
Another option would be to force insurer to be non-profit. cause the profit motive only motivate to NOT pay claim, sure if they paid nothing no one would buy. But instead of juggling to not pay 10% (or whatever) of claim with PR, they'd be just juggling to keep break even, meaning more people get better treatement for the buck., no 'pre-existing' nonsense and all
Not as pissed at they are at th Dems now. A poll done (by Dems no less) shows 50% of the people are happy with B-Rak. 44% want Bush back. Considering his low ratings when he left office, I'd say that maybe a lot of people are missing his somewhat conservative views.
Tries to tell the truth about democrats and they interupt him, true liberals..

Stop the insanity - you cant have your cake and eat it too!
Either the us govt is a failure and can not be depended upon or they can handle the war and health care and other issues.

Hatch's lies started in at 0:18
.. FYI: private sector healthcare *failed*, bud ..
.. The goal of us Democrats is to gett our money's worth from our Tax Dollar. .. 'cuz we sure didn't see any under Bush ..
.. Now Hatch's wealthy constituents pay .. after loopholes .. 30.5% of their income in taxes, while the rest of us pay 29.5% ..
.. so quit your whining Hatch! .. It makes you look mean and senile ..
.. go on now .. you can go .. let it go .. let it be .. resign .. retire ..

hatch makes to make everyone subject to unaccountable corporate rule. hatch is a traitor to the United States of America.

It's obvious you failed.
whoo689 2 years ago
The Libertarians need to stand with the GOP, as we agree on more than we disagree. However, ur right. If we wanted a free market health-care system, we would toss the insurance companies out and everybody pay for their own treatment. Not only would that lower costs, but we would have a system that actually healed the sick instead of just "treating" the symptoms

Wow, what a terrible anchor. He just let Hatch steamroll him like a little *****. What a pushover.

I think they edited out the parts where he was talking back to him. I don't think it was a steam roll

KosmicCitizen 2 years ago

I can't believe he's pulling the old "The poor will be fine when they are all rich" chestnut out of his ass. How's everyone doing in their "Upscale" neighborhoods now?
Now tell us the story again about how your campaign contributions were legal because instead of taking them in your office, you sent a bagman to the street to receive them.
facelesshorseman 2 years ago
As with everything in the media this is truth mixed with lies coming from what most consider a "Bad guy" so no one believes anything they say. He's part right first of all it's not just the Democrats that want this it's the republicans too they just pretend they don't to keep up the illusion that you have a choice. Second the real reason they want everyone dependent on the federal government is so that they can pull the rug out from underneath us and destroy this country.
animeownage86 2 years ago
The republicans want to make everyone enslaved by the mega corporations. Government is the only thing in the way of that.
Yes, fear the government-the entity full of people who you can hire & fire...but don't fear the mega corporations, who actually own the government.
Fuck you for lying to the American people Orrin Hatch.

afrikannus77 2 years ago
probably a year when the richest americans got taxed more than 50% when people could still fraternize and form unions at their jobs, and when rich people understood that an affluent middle class means they make even more money and have more productive workers.

bullshit.
seen and the unseen. What's lost in single payer is innovation and quality.
ferrozm 2 years ago
Explain how insurance companies affect innovation and quality in health care.
wafflethug 2 years ago 2
I never asserted that insurance companies innovate and improve healthcare.
ferrozm 2 years ago
You said going to single payer will decrease innovation and quality. I'm just wondering how so? Single payer is essentially another form of health insurance, and they both do nothing in terms of affecting innovation and quality.
wafflethug 2 years ago 4
What drives innovation is profit.(most of the time, anyways) ATM, we have a system that profits from treating symptoms instead of curing disease and illness. We would have the same under a single-payer system. You want innovation and quality of care? go to a 2-payer system where everybody pays for thiere own healthcare
d00mie74 2 years ago
"bullshit. seen and unseen."
TrollBuster9090 2 years ago 2
god forbid I quote actual economists. and besides there are plenty of questions to be raised about the H1N1. And what is wrong with resenting govt making these vaccinations mandatory? It may not be the case right now but it is a legitimate fear.

It is getting to be the only place a Republican can be elected is Utah, Idaho, Mississippi, and Alabama

It's now to the point that 71% of Americans are pissed at Congress; and you think that there's 4 states?
I see unemployed people (the majority +)
The Dems will be replaced by the RepubliCONS come 2010. It happens every time.
NOW Obuma says he's cool with private insurance plans, with Gov over-site. Just heard him say it.

That might even be true bigc.
IAMtheNewWorldOrder 2 years ago
It is too bad that they can't see the cycle. When the Republicons, who run the Republican party, get power again, we may have more Bush??
Look at the cycle of the last 4 administrations.
I don't see much difference between the last 2. Agenda's, including legislation's and executive orders, that have continued or escalated....
Even with the similarities, I have never seen this level of division. Divide and conquer is a great tool. Rep's pissed them off. Dems disenfranchised?
You may be right.
bigc028282 2 years ago
Where do libs get off saying cons don't put forth ideas. We do, you all just don't listen because your all mindless slaves to big brother. Instead of spending all you got, running up debt, and taxing the crap out of everyone, we say to cut taxes. Duh! Instead of government run healthcare that can't even run the dmv, we suggested tort reform, and insurance across state lines. That's an idea. Don't kill babies, there's a hint. The air we exhale is "newsflash" good for the environment. Just listen
MotionFrequency 2 years ago
Ok, yes, we know you have 2 ideas: cut taxes, reduce spending.
The reason we don't listen to those ideas is because for the past 30 years republicans HAVE been cutting taxes (for the wealthiest Americans) and it DOESN'T WORK!!!! It works for the extremely wealthy temporarily, but not for the middle class or the economy as a whole at all.
As for reduce spending, it's kind of hard to do that when you have no revenue coming in and you're starting pointless, never ending wars. Your ideas fail.
IAMtheNewWorldOrder 2 years ago 2
Kennedy cut taxes, it ended a recession , increased GDP, and raised Quality of Life. Hoover raised taxes, and we got the Great Depression. Roosevelt increased spending, and the Depression lasted ten years.Reagan cut taxes and ended a recession, reversed stagflation, reinvigorated the economy, and won the cold war. You say our wars are pointless, that's an opinion held by many. We just don't want another Hitler,Stalin, or Mao. There are many who would fill those shoes given a chance.
d00mie74 2 years ago
Reagan raised taxes. I noticed that you left out Clinton. Balanced budget and surplus.
flowergirl1313 2 years ago

I can walk into the one by me right now and get everything done in 20 minutes, that includes taking the drivers test
crtnyevans 2 years ago 2
Yeh, me too. We had to elect a Republican Gov. to make that happen. interesting...
d00mie74 2 years ago
Dumb idea, cuting taxes has been tried and failed. It's a broken record.
Another option would be to force insurer to be non-profit. cause the profit motive only motivate to NOT pay claim, sure if they paid nothing no one would buy. But instead of juggling to not pay 10% (or whatever) of claim with PR, they'd be just juggling to keep break even, meaning more people get better treatement for the buck., no 'pre-existing' nonsense and all
Tort reform is welcome but its WAY insufficient..
moestietabarnak 2 years ago 3
Not as pissed at they are at th Dems now. A poll done (by Dems no less) shows 50% of the people are happy with B-Rak. 44% want Bush back. Considering his low ratings when he left office, I'd say that maybe a lot of people are missing his somewhat conservative views.
mcv47 2 years ago
